Change KX5 text message alert?

I know you can change the ringtone to whatever you want by saving an .mp3 in the Saved Sound folder, but the question is, can you change the text message alert sound? Right now, all I can get is Vibrate, Beep, Freeway, Game, Bloop, Winner, and Zilofon. Honestly, none of those are really appealing.

So basically, can you use any other sound than those 7 for text messages?

The only way to do this is to backup the original file, then replace it with a new sound file of the same format and file name.

I, too, found the original message tones dull, so I created my own, converting a small MP3 sound clip to an AMR file using the Nokia Multimedia Converter 2.0, then re-named the file to "freeway.mid", replacing the one on the phone.

Works like a charm!

1) Where can you get Nokia Multimedia Converter 2.0?
2) Isn't freeway.mid on the phone itself, not the card? How did you replace it if it's in the phone memory?

You must join the Nokia Forums before downloading the converter.

2.) The original file is in the phone's memory. You can use either BitPim or EFS Explorer to write over the file. I suggest you use EFS and backup the original file first.

First, convert your sound file into AMR format using the Nokia Multimedia Converter 2.0, then re-name the file to "freeway.mid". Then overwrite the file that is on your phone.

Worked like a charm for me!

When I try to overwrite the file it says an exception has occured. I used a different program to concert the file, but that shouldnt matter.

is there an easier way to do this, for example using your memory card by putting the desired sound on the memory card under the appropriate folder and somehow setting that as the text message alert? i am really tired of the sounds on the phone and its hard to beleive you are stuck with the stock ringers on the phone as text alerts..every other phone i've had lets you change the text alert sound

Hi, short days ago i read this post i and i feel happy cus is there a way to edit the message alerts. i'm using EasyCDMA cus' bitpim doen't work on my KX5 and i can't find the other program. The thing is when i try to paste the new message alert like you said, the program tell me that the trial version can't do that. So it will be so great if someone could give me a serial or tell me another way ro do that. Many t5hanks, nice post.
