Sometimes you get a rep that doesn't know you can't insure them (why...i have no idea)

Just recently we had a customer who had insurance on his treo 650. He had been paying for it for quite a while and then lost his phone. We were able to do an in-store claim to satisfy him, but its very unusual. Insurance was promptly removed from his acount after the transaction.

Bottom line, it should NOT be insured

Posted by: robopie

my salesman said that there's a non-cingular company that can insure the PDA but he couldnt recall the name. Do you know?

Posted by: itsmebryan

It's on my bill! I will have to call them in the morning.

I wouldn't. If it's on your account and you're paying for it for a while, then they'll most likely honor it if you ever need to file a claim. Once you call and have it removed, you probably won't be able to get it back...

Posted by: itsmebryan

Ok. I won't call. And play dumb if I have to make a claim . I will just keep all my bills to show I payed for insurance. Thanks

Lockline is the company that Cingular, Sprint and a few others go through. I believe you can get insurance on your device directly through them.

Posted by: elushon

Actually I forgot about the whole insurance thing....Filed a claim on my 2125 and they honored it without teling me to remove it so sometimes the XBM people aren't paying attention either.

Posted by: HiTek

how come they dont offer insurance? and how would i get isurance through lockline? do i just need to call them up?

Wirelessly posted (motorola razr v3c: BlackBerry8700/4.1.0 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/102 UP.Link/6.3.0.0.0)

Are there any alternate companies that offer cellular insurance? I have the Blackberry 8700 and it makes me nervous not having insurance.

Posted by: audiovoxx

no pda, blackebrry is to be insured... we got an email on that last week about reps insuring equipment that is not eligeble... in all honesty everyone should be on top of this, its a feature we dont get comp on

Posted by: elushon

My personal thoughts on insurance is Cingular needs two insurances.

3.99 for less expensive phones, and then a premium insurance for the high dollar phones. I personally wouldn't mind paying for a more expensive insurance to know my investment is protected.

Posted by: robopie

i agree. I'd pay $10 a month max.

That's actually the number I had in mind, lol.

I mean we pay a premium for these phones, I'd think most reasonable people would be willing to pay a premium for the insurance on those phones.

If you live in the Dallas/Fort Worth area or San Antonio, Hawk Electronics offers insurance on ALL the wireless devices that they sell.

They are a licensed provider for Cingular Wireless network and have their own insurance provider.

If you have an insurance agent, ask them if this is eligible for coverage under Home Computer coverage on an Inland Marine policy. I have my Laptop, iPod, and SMT5600 all scheduled under my Home Computer policy. This protects against spill and drop as well as mysterious disappearance. It's worldwide, too. Ask agents...the coverage is really cheap. Although whether you can do it may vary by state.

Biased part: call my company...we're "on your side". (hint hint)

I received this response from Lockline

lock\line, LLC administers Wireless Equipment Insurance for various telecommunications service providers, but does not insure on an individual basis.
In our partnership with Cingular, certain wireless mobile phones are deemed ineligible for enrollment in the Wireless Phone Insurance program.
Currently, the Cingular/HTC 8125 is one unit that is considered ineligible.
We understand the importance of your phone and apologize for any inconvenience this may cause you.
As technology is continually changing, we and Cingular are continually evaluating our policies and programs.

For more information please visit: http://www.cingular.com/customer_se...ment_protection

Thank you for your inquiry.

... Today was the first and only time I've dropped my 8125... Now I have a bad dint in the screen and I can't use the touchscreen in that area... I don't even know what object on the floor could have done that to it because there was no objects on the floor... I'm going to call them up in the morning and I better get either my money back or a new phone because this is ridiculous...

Posted by: itsmebryan

I was worried about it dropping too. I when and got the metal case they sell on ebay. I worked great. I dropped my phone about four time on my trip last week on my trip to Europe and It was fine. But let me know what they do when they get damaged. Do you have insurance? and how long have you had the phone? Good luck

Posted by: orbix

I've only had my phone for about 20 days... It's unfortunate that on the first drop this is what happened...

Ive been playing that tune since i started here a year ago. But i still dont think that this has nothing to do with Cingular, its Lockline's decision.

As of now Homeowners insurance is the best route. Ive actually heard its fairly cheap.

I don't throw fits. I'm too calm for that. I simply explained to the rep what happened. I went to numerous Cingular stores looking for screen covers(or whatever they're called) so that I could avoid this type of situation and they don't offer any. I let him know that I wouldn't mind paying a $50 fee to replace it since it's my fault it fell but I will NOT pay $379 for another phone when I just spent $350 getting it. It wouldn't make sense to be paying $700+ just to talk on the phone but I need this phone for my contacts, sending e-mail, appointments with clients, etc etc.
I just switched over from AT&T and I had insurance when I was on there. And he told me that it was taken off when I made the switch, but then I showed him that it says that insurance is available for the phone on the Cingular website and it says to call Cingular or Lock Line which I did. So yeah, I'm getting my replacement by Wednesday.

Online it shows that insurance is available for the 8125? Hmph, theyll have to fix that because its not right. So did they give you an insurance replacement then with the 50 dollar deductible?

Screen Protectors can be found at like Bestbuy, they are literally a dime a dozen and i would still reccomend getting one. They are also all over Ebay and other online establisments.

Posted by: brewm12

i may be wrong but from what cingular's told me

lockline insurance is something very different from Cingular's XBM. For any phone that cingular offers you have a warentee for 1 year.

you can call 18008011101 and they'll send you a new one

i think lockline is for the if phone is completely distroyed broken or lost or stolen

thats why theres a 50$ charge for placeing a claim with lockline.

i'm probably wrong so don't take my word exactly

Posted by: itsmebryan

I went and got the hard metal case off of ebay. It's padded on the inside and it protected phone the few times I dropped it. The best $30 I spent so far on the phone.

Posted by: matt0525

Has the metal case affected your reception at all?? I've heard it's a drawback of having an aluminum case.

Posted by: itsmebryan

None that I can tell.
