Circuit City is selling the Sanyo SCP-5300 for $399, as are most places. If you are a new customer, you get a $50 rebate from Sprint PCS. The real surprise lies in Circuit City's rebate: $200!!!!!!

$399 (Base Price)
-$50 (Sprint Rebate)
-$200 (Circuit City Rebate)
----------
Final Price = $149

Towards the bottom of the link, you'll see that this phone is eligible for the $200 rebate.

The circuit city fine print, however, states that "Offer requires new phone purchase and a new contract agreement.
- Offer does not apply to phones purchased as an upgrade or replacement."

Which I take to mean that it does require a new activation.

if you add a phone the rebates can work for you

I got the rebate also and I was a previous customer and I was replacing my previous phone. I had to renew my contract for one year because I was out but it was worth it. I also had $75 credit for service from Sprint once I bought a new phone so I got the phone for about $75 . Not too bad at all.

How did you get the rebates? through circuit city? or did you request it through SPrint/retention? AFAIK, the 200 rebate is circuit city mailin

There is a $200 mail-in rebate through CC and another $50 mail-in rebate through Sprint. ($399 - $200 - $50 = $149)

I think the additional $75 that h0ckeykid00 is talking about was a credit specifically given by Sprint to him/her in exchange for being a particularly profitable customer who was willing to renewing their contract. ($149 - $75 = $74)

Sometimes Sprint will offer service credits (basically just a subtraction from your bill) or sometimes even money towards buying a new phone (but then only if you buy it from Sprint). So, I'm guessing he/she was just talking about a service credit. So, it wasn't really another $75 off of the phone, if I'm not mistaken. But money is money, so it wask kind of a $74 phone.

You'd have to go through Sprint's customer service machine to get a service credit, and you'd have to have a good reason that you deserve one. (I've never gotten one, but then again, I've never asked for one.)

EDIT: One last thing

Don't forget that you'll be paying sales tax on the full amount. (For me, it would be about 8% on $399, and it comes out somewhere around $32.) Factor in the service plan, and you're looking at $490 out-of-pocket, coming down to $240 after all the rebates finally come in (figure about three months at least).

I heard Best Buy is going to sell the phone for $299 starting Sunday. So you can bring the phone back for price match and get $100 back from Circuit Sh**ty on Sunday(1/26)

If you are a Sprint customer you can still get a good deal without rebate. Just call Sprint and tell them you want to cancel Sprint the CSR will offer you $200 credit toward new phone(1 year contract required).

Tell me a little more about the retention and what I should do?

I have a 5150 and am out of contract. I want to buy a 5300, get unlimited data and keep my 8pm n&w?

Is it possible? If I call up and say I want to cancel, what are they going to offer me?

I don't want them to say "ok, sir .. your service will end at 12:00am Friday.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
