transferring songs from itunes

when i try to transfer songs, only some songs are transferred over.
for example out of a list of 10 songs, i'll select all and drag over to my phone. only 5 will be successful. when i try to individually drag the songs that didnt transfer over, my phone doesnt light up on the left hand side of itunes, as if it doesnt recognize it. and the song is in the exact same format as the successful transfers. anyone else run into this problem?
