Connecting v300 to p2kman problem

I just bought a v300 along with a data cable. I have installed the usb modem and went to use both p2kman and p2kcommander, but neither would recognize the phone. In p2kcommander, it says data write fail and volume name fail. Wondering if anyone could help me finally put my data cable to good use.
