Just got the Sprint PPC-6700!

Hey Gang,

Just got the Sprint PPC-6700 a few days ago. This thing is quite an upgrade from my previous Samsung phone.

Are there any spark notes on how to easily set up AOL email account to where I can get emails to my phone? And also be able to use AIM?

I was told by Sprint that I really have to play around with it for a month or so before I get somewhat comfortable with using it! But I think I may need a few months LOL!

So if anyone can shed some light on how I can setup the phone to get AOL email to it, as well as AIM, I would greatly appreciate it!

Thanks!

Zack

I love the 6700, best phone I've used to date. I don't use AOL mail myself, but I'll give you a general overview of setting up email. As far as AIM goes, on my 6600 I used the UK version of AIM for CE, but I can't seem to get it to work right on WM5 yet, but I'm working on it and I'll let you know. The only other program I've found for AIM is one you have to purchase, and I haven't done that yet. If anyone else on the forums knows of anything feel free to respond.

Setting up email is pretty simple. Go start, messaging, should be in first menu that pops up, although it depends on how your 6700 was configured. Click on menu on the lower right hand corner, go to Tools, and then New Account. Enter the email address, and hit next. Then enter your username/password and your name. Should be the same that you use to log into AOL mail. Hit next again. This is where you may need to either find out through AOL, or someone else in the forums might know who uses AOL mail. The next step is setting up the account type. I'm not sure what type of system AOL uses so as I said someone else is going to have to fill in the blanks for me. As well as the incomming and outgoing server information, which is the next step of the setup process. You can change settings further with the options button, such as how often the email is received. Hit finish to complete the process and get your mail. Each time you want to check it go into the messaging and hit menu, send/receive.

Adding one thing,
Make sure you have some kind of data plan if you are going to be getting emails, because if you don't your its a per $.5 a KB charge, and the average email is around 3-15 KB.

AOL Mail is somewhat proprietary compared with POP or IMAP.

You might want to get a gmail account (or something similar). Plus, why pay for AOL when you can get email for free with gmail or your internet provider.

They may have AOL for there home service. If you are looking for a good free multiple chat IM then search for Agile Messsenger Beta. It is free and supports AOL, MSN, ICQ and other chat clients all at once.

Thanks for everyones help! I still can't seem to get AOL mail setup, because it keeps telling me invalid username/password.

Anyway, I think at this point my best bet would be to bring it into Sprint and have them help me setup my AOL mail, because it seems like I am doing something wrong, even though I am following all the steps!

As for the Agile Messenger, do I download that to my computer first and then send it to my phone, or can I download it from my phone directly?

Thanks again for everyones help, much appreciated!

I doubt a Sprint store is going to program your email for you sorry to bust your bubble, but its most likely true...

As of yesterday Agile released the .cab file which you could download directly to your phone and install. The .exe is for downloading to your computer.

AOL mail sucks just get a different email and you'll be alot happier

Yup... couldn't agree more. Get something other than AOL mail.
