New e815...still on the fence.

I recently upgraded my LGVX6000 for a Motorola e815. Feeling pretty mixed so far, although with a couple of good suggestions I could easily end up keeping this phone. Here are my problems:
1) When I use the bluetooth headset, people I'm talking to hear the infamous "echo" on the other end of the line. I saw on an old thread that there was a firmware fix for this. My version is 8720_01.17.03. That thread was from February. How could a Verizon store, in NYC no less, still be selling phones out of the box with known problems and old firmware? Is that level of incompetence common? I even took it back and exchanged it because I was having these issues, and they told me I had the latest software.
2) I'm having a lot of problems with the voice recognition dialing. It consistently fails to understand even simple names like Mom, Dad, Danny, etc. On the rare occasions when it does understand a name and asks me for confirmation, it will even fail to understand my "yes" or "no" prompts. I am a native English speaker and don't have any strong regional dialect. It happens both using bluetooth and when using the handset. Unlike the echo which I've found a lot of complaints about, I've seen mostly rave reviews of the voice dialing, so I'm not sure what's going on here.
If I could solve these two issues, the phone is great. Otherwise, I'm going to have to return it and try the new LG phone: the V.
