Can't Connect To Wi-Fi With PPC 6700

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

I just bought a new PPC 6700 last week from Bell Mobility. I'm a Mac user and so currently can't sync to my Mac with it , but I was under the impression that I should be able to connect to my Telus internet connection with Wi-Fi via my D-Link Wireless router (DL-624) to be able to check emails and surf the net.

However, things seem not to be that simple, in that my PPC does locate and show as "Available", my wireless network and a few others in the area, but does not connect. It tries to connect, but doesn't, and immediately tries connecting to another network, and again fails. I should mention that it has connected to a network other than my own a few times, but not long after connecting it loses the connection and starts scanning again.

I called Bell support today, but I think the tech didn't know what he was talking about, because he told me that I needed Wi-Fi service, and that in any case Bell didn't offer tech support for this scenario. Sooo, if I can't find any answers here, Bell will be receiving their phone back within the next day or two, but I do like the phone, so hopefully I can get this figured out and won't have to go that route.

Thanks in advance.

Hehe, I was in the same boat as you.

Ok i'm not sure how much I can explain here, but if you have AIM feel free to aim me at xxkraziemofo.

I use Rogers internet, have purchased the starcom a couple days ago. Took a long while, but got it to work with my Wireless router I just bought.

It must be at least 802.11g (Wireless Router)

On your wireless router preferences, the channle in one of the preferneces has to be on channle 11 (output?), not 6 (default) Uhh.. for some reason i cant find the program here, so i cant tell you much, but its probably the settings in on your router. I called the routers company to get the information for it i believe, or called bell's data line (the store gave it to me)

Hello, thanks for the reply to my post.

I changed the channel in my wireless router settings to ch. 11, but my PPC is still not connecting. Did you do anything else besides changing form ch. 6 to 11?

Thanks.

MM

You probably have WEP or some other type of security (eg: MAC address lookup) set on your WiFi Router.

PS: If you're a Mac User, you may want to get the Missing Link alpha by Mark/Space.

Acutally, it needs to backwards compatable with 802.11b, because I'm pretty sure that the PPC only has b(11mbps), not g(54mbps) (correct me if I'm wrong I haven't found any concrete evidence on its capability.) The channel the wireless connects on doesn't really matter as long as the both use the same, which is automatically (should be) detected by the 6700 and configured. I've used mine at about 30 different hotspots including personal and commercial and have had no problems connecting to any, as long as the correct security parameters are set, ect..

The 6700 uses 802.11b.

MissingSync doesn't currently support the PPC with WM5. I've emailed them and asked them when it will be available and they just say soon. Same thing with Pocket For Mac

This seems to not be the case here. My router is now on channel 11, and oddly my PPC connects very weakly to another local network on channel 6, and still doesn't connect to my network. It see's it, just won't connect. I have no idea.

I figured my problem out, and it was a D-Link issue. I upgraded my firmware, and viola, finally my PPC connected to my home network.

Thanks,

MM
