8125 and Magic Button

Just got my 8125 like a week ago , and I've spent some time playing around with it and trying various apps out.

One that really interested me was the Magic Button. Really helps to close programs out, but ever since installing it I keep having difficulty with the phone app. It never shuts off.

I did a search and it was reccommended to put the phone app on "Keep Alive" and "Don't Show when inactive." That really didn't help a whole lot. The phone is still up most of the time and I never see the today screen after that. A reboot is all that fixes it until it happens again.

Any ideas or should I just give up on the whole magic button thing?

(Since I've had it, I don't think I've been able to go 24 hours without a reboot. Thats one thing the RAZR had up on it.)

I don't have that problem at all. I use a different "close app" program, called SmartsKey. It turns the left and right smart keys into "Start Menu" and "Close Button" when you hold them down, and it fully exits the app when you hold down "Close."

You should either fiddle with "Magic Button" or replace it.

In addition, Microsoft's engineers probably had good reasons for keeping apps in memory -- it makes the system a lot faster. If they thought it was best to fully exit every app every time, isn't that how they'd make their system?

Good luck, and have fun!

I had the same problem and have been trying out spbpocketplus. I tried a bunch more free apps but all seemed to have some problems on my unit. So far I have not run into any issues with this one.

the magic button actually corrupted my SPB Full Screen Keyboard.. it worked just fine until i assigned it to that.

Use PHM Traylaunch and create a shortcut for the taskmanager. Much better solution than magic button, IMO.

I use that, however I can't get that shortcut to work. What's the shortcut you're using?

Here's the shortcut I'm using:

Code:
24#ctlpnl cplmain.cpl,4,2?deviceinfo.exe,-103

I used it for a few days and had alot of problems. I have switched to VBAR and love it. As far as I know you can't switch of the phone app part. I tried with mb and with vbar and it just acts crazy and does nothing.

MagicButton was incredibly unreliable on my 8125. Would mess up the toolbar icons, inexplicably quit sometimes, etc. etc.. However this program -- which specifically supports WM5 -- has been nearly flawless[*]:

That program combined with smartskey's closing ability pretty much covers all my need to switch/close programs.

* - with the exception that if you try to quit the Programs window it soft resets the machine. this is mentioned on the developer's page (although is supposedly fixed, but apparently not for the 8125). In any case, I just don't ever try to quit Programs, which is fine.

I also used MagicButton but was forced to dump it because it was so buggy. Too bad too its such a fantastic program. I've switched over to smartskey and am very happy.. just need to find a good program that lists open tasks on the today screen.
