Motorola Phone Tools v4.04a or v4.04b??

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

I just purchased the Motorola Phone Tools directly from Motorola. I've installed the software and it shows as v4.04a. However, I see numerous references to MPT v4.04b. When I do a live update it says my product is up to date. I've searched Motorola's website but cannot find any software patches or updates anywhere. Thus, I'm wondering how folks got the update to get them to v4.04b? Is there a difference perhaps in the software I purchased from Motorola versus what folks here are referencing? It came in a nice box labeled "Motorola Phone Tools" and has the USB cables and software CD in it.

4.04b beta, you probably have a released version. might be better, beta testers finds all the bugs.

Does your version not work with your phone? If it does work, then what does it matter if you have 4.04a or 4.04b?

don't think it matters, if all the bugs are out won't you think thats the one you want? the released version? the 4.04b works fine. figgah 4.04a should work better

I didn't say there was anything the matter with it, I was simply confused by the differing version numbers. But as long as you brought it up, the software does not seem to synchronize the calendar events from Outlook, so I had hopes that perhaps a newer version might have this corrected. I've emailed Motorola about it, but probably won't get an answer until next week, if at all.

well mine work fine, try sync it again, maybe you found a software glitch, what you think, I would think 4.04a should be better

Of course I'm like anyone else and I want the version with no bugs in it, but having a letter of "b" in the version number does not necessarily indicate a software version is a "beta" version. But if I'm reading things correctly here, the 4.04b is a beta version.

send me the 4.04a install, i'll try it out. LOL

I think it was a beta version, alot couldn't get the beta update

Perhaps I have found a glitch. Hopefully Motorola will reply to my inquiry with them.

I guess I can't answer to that. But unless I'm doing something wrong, which is certainly possible, after I synch with my RAZR V3c, even though it says the calendar info sync'd succesfully, there is nothing in the calendar in the phone when I check it.

now I remember, some had problems sync'n with the V3c, also ringtone and such, I tried once putting ringtones on a V3c and the only thing came up in MPT was phonebook and calender, but alot say Verizon locked out thoses features, maybe Verizon screwed up sync'n too.

Thought I'd follow up on this. At this point in time, it appears that the "events" in Outlook will not sync. I had everything in my Outlook as an event, and not an "appointment". (I just have birthdays and anniversaries in my Outlook and an event makes more sense for this type of thing since they aren't tied to a specific time during the day like an appointment is.)

I created "appointments" in Outlook for all my entries and deleted the events and these appointments do synchronize to the phone. Thus it is working, just not the way I'd like it to.

It's still a bit odd though that the MPT software would read the events from Outlook and even go through the synchronization of them and tell me it was succesful, but the phone never actually got them. It would even let me manually highlight events and "copy to phone" and it would show they copied, but they never really got copied.

I haven't tested other things, like setting an appointment to "all day event" or not having a reminder, etc. so I suppose it's possible there are other combinations of things that won't synchronize, but doing what I did will work good enough for me.

Don't know that it matters, but my phone came with the .04 firmware that I flashed to .02 and then back to the .04p firmware located in the VerizonWireless-Motorola forum here.
