6700 problems internet tries to roam

I got this phone yesterday and have spent hours with tech support trying to access web pages. I do not have the high speed connection here yet, but the IR one does not even work without jumping back and forth to data roaming, which gives me a you can't do that message...I tried to pull up ebay homepage, but it wouldn't fully load. I didn't realize when I bought this thing that you would be limited in the pages you could pull up. If I used it as a modem with my laptop, would I still be unable to pull up some pages? And how exactly do I set that up to do so?

I am a complete novice about these high tech things, and would appreciate any help given...
TIA!

Do the Hard->Soft Reset (if it is the Verizon version). You'll be a lot happier!

I did that when I was speaking to tech support...should I do it again and see what happens?

Thanks!

Ironically I was sort of having the same problem yesterday. I am in an EVDO area, and I was in the middle of that service area and had very low reception (I can walk down the street and get -70dbm but there I get nothing ). My phone switched onto whats called the 1XRTT network, or Vision, which is probably what your connecting to (depending on service area). If your using another carriers tower to seemlessly roam (even though you don't even know it) you may not be able to data roam on that carriers tower, therefore getting a "data roaming is not allowed" or something similar to that. I believe its either that, or the phone needs to be provisioned to data roam (maybe a change in the 20220 prl for my area?) and then it would be able to connect to the 1XRTT network and should be able to browse the internet (at least at around 115kbps, not EVDO speeds though.) Anyone with any other info would be appreciated, maybe from some of the network specialists out there.

You wouldn't be able to use your phone for PAM (Phone-as-modem) if you can't provision your phone to connect to the Vision (#777) because the PAM will use the same network connection to browse the internet.

There are quite a few posts on this forum that explain how, including one I wrote on how to connect via bluetooth. I can paste those here if you'd like.

Thank you! I would appreciate that!
I can connect off and on...The tech support guy did not mention changin any settings to allow for data roaming...just said they did not have any way to charge for that specifically when I expressed concern about that. I hate to think this is the level of service I can expect from Sprint.
