Any way I can tell if my iPAQ 6515 is unlocked?

I've been thinking about calling Cingular CS and ask for the unlock code for my iPAQ 6515, which I bought retail price at a corp. store. However, I don't want to go through all that hassle CS is going to give me, just to find out later that my device was already unlocked.
I don't have an active SIM from any other carrier, though I do have inactive SIM's from T-Mobile and SunCom. In all the previous phones I've had, putting a "foreign" SIM card, even if it was inactive, just caused a locked phone to report "Wrong SIM" or "Enter subsidy code" or something similar, and it would not let me access anything else on the phone. However, I put my SunCom SIM card in the iPAQ and it only reports "Phone [No Service]" in the Wireless applet. This is the same thing it reports when I put an inactive SIM from Cingular. In either case, I can access all the iPAQ features, except of course that phone-specific features don't work. Does this means my device is already unlocked?
