Where is the BEST place to buy the cingular 8125 without a contract?

Cingular store wants 500.00 for one, without contract, which is NUTS!

thanks

Just checked out 3 online web sites and it was more than $700 unlocked on all 3 sites. Keep looking.

The phone should be $450 before taxes. What do you expect? That is the best price you will find for a new 8125.

considering the phone is still new and is very expensive, i'd say $500 is a sweet deal. I wont be buying it of-course but hey, if you gots to have it then good for those people. I might get it but might get the QTEK 8500 instead

How dare they!

Thats about right for the phone after taxes. Other than that check out eBay or wait.

Wierd, I went to a Cingular Corporate store and bought mine retail for 349.99, no contract.

I have a brand new unlocked one for $375.

Hit me up.

Definitely. Caution is the name of the game on craigslist, though. Don't get burned. But it's great if you do your homework. There are some real steals to be had on craigslist!

ebay is easier and safer within the $400 range

That's what I paid for mine. The phone is worth the price.

How do you find one-hand operation with it? That's the only thing that has turned me off from this baby. Also, how is RF? Thanks...

One-hand operation is fine, except where it matters the most... the phone! It is tough to dial with one hand pressing the touch-screen buttons with your thumb, and almost impossible to do while in bright sunlight. The numeric layout on the hardware keyboard is awful too.

In short, good device but I'm getting the iPAQ 6925 when it comes out. I miss dialing without looking.

actually yes and no, with the default dailer its hard to dial with one hand. But, if you change it to the Eten dial larger button your can dial with one hand with no problem. go to the pocket pc forum and look for the Eten dialer and skin that Paulya put out. also MS Voice Command is really good. it requires no voice training you just speak in your normal voice. I can say Call Katie Work and it goes into my contact and looks for Katie Work repeats it and i confirm with Yes and it dials. Or i can say Dial 404-555-5555 and it dials that exact numbers i say.

None of them replace the natural feel of dialing on the phone without being a slave of the screen. While VoiceCommand may do the trick for some people, I won't even bother dealing with it. It'd be too good to be true that VC would handle the bilingual Contacts and PIM data collection that I put into my devices.

true, pocket pc is not for everyone. but people like to have the newest toy without putting any thought into the pros/cons

Thanks for the heads-up! And I know what you mean about the dialing without looking, which is why I have a Treo 650. How come you're not looking at a Treo? I tried the iPAQ hw6515 and found it a bit bulky, although it was lighter. Is it just that you prefer WM and if so, why? Thanks again...

Because I want a real OS, one that can multitask. All joking aside, I'd rather use a regular non-smartphone before using a Treo. The 8125 holds me up until the iPAQ 6925 comes out. In the meantime, if I have the urge to get away from the touchscreen, I'll pop the SIM into the Audiovox SMT5600.
