Nokia 1100 (Yeah, I Know) & 64K Sim?

Does anyone have a definitive answer as to weather a 64K sim will work in a Nokia 1100? Before everyone starts with the "Ewww, Nokia 1100??" comments, here's the deal: My mom is almost 80, uses less than 10 minutes a month on our family plan, and is very happy/comfortable/secure with her 1100. She has had absolutely no problems with it -- maybe because she uses it so rarely, or maybe because she got a good one. At any rate, she doesn't want to upgrade because all the newer phones confuse her. However, we have been told that as network integration progresses, we will need to make sure all our sims have been upgraded all to the new 64K cards. Otherwise (if I understand it correctly), if there is overlap of the 850 network with the 1900 network, we will either not be able to access the 1900 signal or if we do it will be considered roaming. But when I asked about upgrading my mom's sim card I was told that she will have to get a new phone -- that a 64K sim won't work in a Nokia 1100.
Is that correct? Why would that be?

The answer is maybe. The first versions of the phone would not work with the 64k SIM. It's easy to check. Put a 64k Sim in the phone. In the ones I have seen, the phone starts turning on and off. I'm not sure but I think the software was updated in the later version. So if you have on of those it should work.. I would suggest you update your Sim to a 64k. Then try it in her phone.

Good idea -- but are all 64k sims alike? We have already updated 2 of our phones, the most recent being this past July. Don't they keep changing things with the sim cards? (I will be upgrading mine when I am eligible for a phone upgrade -- I've been holding off because I currently have a 32k sim with network select available.)
Another question -- if it turns out that her phone starts the turning on and off thing, can Nokia update its software to stop it? That would be an acceptable alternative to actually changing her phone on her.

Just use other people's sims on that 1100 before upgrading. I'm sure you could go to a corp store and ask them to try it out, just tell them your concerns, or if you already have one, why not try that one out?
There's several versions of the 64k sim, personally, I used the old one and I currently have the 3G one.

Will do -- I did check with a corp store, and was somewhat surprised at being told that the 1100 is a single-band phone.
Usually this store is right on the money with their knowledge/info, but there seems to be some confusion regarding this particular model. They are the ones who said that the 64k sim would not work -- but like I said, the first reason I was given is that it's single-band, which we know is not the case.
