Anyone well versed in Japanese here and can help a brother out?

Posted by: Desert_Fox

I'm trying to deal with this guy on ebay and explain to him that he gave me a broken Sharp 903... can you guys help me out?

This is what he said to me translated in english, well probably from japanese to english by babelfish:

unlock that mobile is wont need vodafone card !!! so don ask me about that sim card again !!! and then i check that mobile already !! i think are ur friend broken it !!!

If you guys need an explanation of what happened, I'll gladly post here, but its already been posted at: http://howardforums.com/showthread.php?t=912399&page=1 on the third post.

He keeps claiming that my unlocker friend broke it, but even he, a very reputable member in this forum, said that with a vodafone Japan sim card the phone kept restarting, so I was sent a lemon of a phone.

Posted by: john0213

is there anyhow you are able to send the phone back to him and make a charge back on your paypal?

Posted by: Desert_Fox

Tried the paypal route already, and I quote them on this:

As stated in our User Agreement, PayPal’s Buyer Complaint Policy only applies to the shipment of goods, not to disputes about the attributes or quality of the goods received. We have noted your claim in the seller's record. The seller's account privileges will be limited if excessive complaints are received.

To sum it up, since the item arrived, the phone is physically there, so the seller met his part of the contract.

Posted by: Kevbodian

Fox,

i doubt that sharp will do anything. i think the only receipt they would accept is one from the original provider in the original country.

there is 1 thing you can do, but good luck doing it.

check your PM for the other way to do it.

Posted by: Desert_Fox

Kev, I don't see any PM... unless its delayed in arrival.

Posted by: Kevbodian

hehe i was writing it.. ur too fast

edit:

i dont know full story tho.

was your phone blinking when you got it? did the seller unlock it? and is it cid73?

Posted by: Desert_Fox

It wasn't unlocked, it was a sharp 903 from january, and the seller didn't even ship it with a sim card.

When I got the phone, all I could do was turn it on and off, since I had no Vodafone Japan sim card. CID 73 is the ones that the new phones have right? If I wait for the unlock on that, you think it will work?

Posted by: dingd0ng

January 903's are unlockable but would need to be taken apart. Did you contact Tim? He should be able to help you. If you need his contact, check my sig.

Posted by: Cloud V

Unfortunately, there's nothing you can do I believe. If you've already had timsta attempt to unlock it. Otherwise I would suggest you mention to the seller that it's broken or restarted. In japanese

903 wo buji ni tsukimashita ga vodafone no SIM ka-do wo sashikondara nandomo saikidoushite shimaimasu. to iu koto de kore ha kowareteru to omowaremasu. dekireba buhin wo koukan shitain desuga, sore ga dekinai no naraba, okane wo kaeshite moraitaindesu. yoroshiku onegaishimasu.

The 903 safely arrived, but upon putting a Vodafone sim card in it constantly restarts. so, it can be assumed that the 903 is broken. If it is possible, I would like to exchange the product. If not possible, I would like my money returned. I look forward to your reply.

Posted by: Desert_Fox

Cloud, you are a savior. Thanks for that!

Been stuDYING for college midterms lately, so sorry for the late replies.

Posted by: Cloud V

Let me remind you though if you've already attempted to flash, dismantle or do anything of the sort it voids your warrenty, and he most likely does not have to accept it back, so you may want to be careful on telling him you had the intent to modify it

Posted by: caligvla

How do you know he is even Japanese?
Ask him this and let me know what his response is, before flying of a nihongo response.

"Nihonjin deska?"

cheers,
M

Posted by: Desert_Fox

His email is from yahoo japan, and he sent me an email in japanese initially. His email signature is filled with kanji characters.

Posted by: caligvla

again how do you know he is Japanese?
anyone can get a yahoo jp acct

can you tell the difference between, Kanji, Hirigana and Katakana?
It would be extremely odd to send a nihongo email exclusively in Kanji...

again you should ask him, "Nihonjin deska?"
before proceeding in Japanese, you may wind up insulting someone you are
trying to resolve a problem with...

M

Posted by: lamplighter

Get his address Fox, I'll be in Japan soon and will go slap him around.
Well unless he is some big sumo guy.

Let us know what happens.

Posted by: AL9999

Fox would you mind copying and pasting what he wrote in Japanese? Either here or in a PM to me? I'm curious to see just what he said...

Dude, if you've got a Yahoo Jp address, and have your sig in Japanese, then it is safe to assume that he is Japanese. I see no insult in it. To add to that there is no English signup for yahoo jp, so the man has to have some grammar ability. He's blatently showing his method of contact is japanese.

The point here is not even about whether or not he's japanese, but whether or not he's going to replace a faulty auction item.

Fox, pm me the responses if you want further help. Thanks

Posted by: AL9999

Yeah very true. I personally want to see what he wrote so I can see what kind of person he is. You can learn a lot by the way people conduct themselves when using Japanese.

Posted by: Timsta

really? hrmm. interesting.. poor fox.. his phone is not a easy to work with ph one... spent so much time on it

Posted by: Desert_Fox

Tim, I thank you for your work. Trust me on this... I wanna grill the seller for this.

As for the his original email he sent me, it was through ebay, so unfortunately its gone.

Posted by: john0213

talking about grill.. you want it medium? or medium rare?

Posted by: Timsta

I like medium... so I can heat it up in the microwave later if I don't finish it.

What's a good price to sell the case then? PM me with it. Btw Tim, I remember seeing someone sell a 903 with a broken camera... you think I could slap that on mine and combine it with my working camera to have a working 903?

Posted by: Timsta

yeah that might work. i'l have to investigate. i never took apart the camera part before

Posted by: Desert_Fox

Hey Tim, I'm gonna need your help on the eBay claim that follows. Check your PM for the details.

Posted by: john0213

fox~ tim deserves a big hug~ c'mon~!!!!!

Posted by: Desert_Fox

Yeah, Tim's the man... my next phone purchase will go to his pocket.

Man hug~!!!

Posted by: Timsta

ewww.. no man hugs.

Posted by: Kevbodian

tim loves hugs. im not saying i give them to him.. but i think he is the kinda guy that LOVES them.

Posted by: pouting_girl

i'm sure tim likes them...just not from guys =P

Posted by: sketch143

so let's all just hug pouting and get her to transfer the hug to tim.. i'm sure tim will loooove that

Posted by: dingd0ng

hahaha, you guys were definitely FIRST scare pouting girl away before the looovvveee can be transferred!!! This sounds more scarier then her ghost detector phone strap.

Posted by: pouting_girl

Posted by: Desert_Fox

Posted by: Timsta

Posted by: Timsta

Posted by: Desert_Fox

Hey Tim, can you PM me Gabbie's update on the phone? I got your IM this morning.

Posted by: Timsta

well it was baking in the oven at the time i spoke with him.

Posted by: Desert_Fox

I hope you don't mean literally...

If that doesn't work, I need your professional opinion by Friday to be eligible for a refund.

Posted by: john0213

tim did you put gravy on while you bake it?

Posted by: Timsta

when i say bake.. its electronics term.. its when you you bake the entire phoen to reset all swtiched and solder the phone again

Posted by: Desert_Fox

So... how long does it take to bake in this oven?

Posted by: Timsta

takes a few hours. anwyays.. we've determined your phone is hardware sound.. so it is fixable in the long term.. if we can only figure out why the eprom is missing.. yah.. u have a messed up phone.. but better than the other guy.

he sent me a phone that was worked on by some guy in Cali.. the guy opened up his phone.. knocked off 4 chips. bent the keypad clip backwards.. adn more... total mess of the clientsp hone.. bAD BAD UNLOCKER

Posted by: Desert_Fox

... oy vey~!!! Broke the Phone~!!

Man, thank god I sent that phone straight to you.

Can't you just copy and paste another phone's EEPROM to the phone or something... probably not?

Posted by: Timsta

no.. i wish man. i wish

Posted by: Desert_Fox

Hey Tim, thanks for the help with the ebay letter.

Posted by: Timsta

no problems. any time.

Posted by: Cloud V

so, exactly how did this work, never heard anything about the japanese response.

Posted by: Timsta

i wrote a letter for desert regarding his handset. which he has now provided to ebay. and seller is all mad. or something

Posted by: Desert_Fox

That's exactly it... the guy dropped out from the proceedings.

Tried contacting him again, no response. Last time I talked to him, he says the phone was my problem now, that I had to get it unlocked for it to stop restarting.

Posted by: Timsta

haha... unlockin doesn't help the restarting.

Posted by: pouting_girl

so will ebay be refunding your money?

Posted by: Timsta

no.. they offered pouting_Girl to desert as compesnation tho

Posted by: iplen

Speaking of EEPROMs.. I have no idea how they work, besides common sense, but I am aware that you are able to buy EEPROM chips in places where they sell chips for robots, etc.

If you are able to somehow access that EEPROM, in theory would you not be able to copy it too?

This is different from the previous post where he asked if he copy to another phone's EEPROM, I am asking if it is possible to create a new instance of the old EEPROM on a different chip?

This is just me speculating here, dont mind me if I got things all wrong

EDIT: Just thought of another problem of how EEPROMs arent exactly all the same, so finding the right one for a Sharp phone might be a bit difficult lol.. Heres a link to a site with a few EEPROM chips: http://www.robotstore.com/store/def...tid=1618&page=1

Posted by: Timsta

unfortunately we can't create our own eeproms.. nor can we copy the one from one phoen to another yet.. just not possible just yet. not for sharp anyways. for sony ericssons. yes.

yah.. and there is no spare chips for sale for sharp.. i've looked for ages for ic chips.

Posted by: Desert_Fox

... **** !

T_T... must buy from Timsta next time.

Posted by: Cloud V

the seller is mad how? I was wanting to see what he said in regards to your reply to him. Perhaps it's not a drop out of the matter as much as he doesn't realize what you're trying to explain to him.

Posted by: Desert_Fox

Hmmm... these are the only ones I can get out of ebay unfortunately. They delete themselves apparently.

Oh, I forgive him for his Engrish. I remember learning English was a bi*tch for me. But I wanted a refund or at least a replacement, and the ******* wouldn't help me out with that.

Posted by: Timsta

hahahah.. i hope everything is working out for you now tho on it.

Posted by: Desert_Fox

eBay pulled through... I got some cash, but now where do I find a spare EEPROM for a sharp 903?

I really reallly want this phone... its been almost three months... T_T ?? anyone break their sharp 903's recently?

Posted by: Timsta

LOL>.... 903s are gettin harder and harder to come by lately now too

Posted by: AL9999

Although, I'm still finding a few Aussie auctions popping up now and then, they usually go for around AU$550-$650.

Posted by: Timsta

still pretty high. for new ones..

Posted by: Desert_Fox

!!~T_T~!! ... I want my sharp 903 to work!!! where can I get that EEPROM?

Is it the chip that is broken or the software?

Its been 4 months... I just want this phone to work~!!!!

Posted by: sketch143

You're better of just selling it to someone on ebay.. like seriously... =\

Put in the description that it was just given to you, and that you're an old guy who doesn't know how to use the phone.. blahblahblah..

Posted by: Timsta

wow... thats a 100% sketch scam for you right there

Posted by: Desert_Fox

Sketch... that's evil...

Posted by: sketch143

it's not... you're abiding by ebay rules by informing the buyer that you have no idea if it works or not.. it's the buyer's decision if he wants to buy it or not..

Posted by: beyond

legal...but very unethical...

Posted by: sketch143

gah.... who cares.. =\ it's not like i'm pushing him to do it.. i'm just presenting the idea.. better than losing $600..

and besides.. what would you do in a situation where you have a brand new $600 phone that doesn't work... just let it go? =o

Posted by: The0ry

Oh my Skecth...it would be the same as if you bought a phone for YOURSELF and you found out its either used or doesn't work...I found it out the hard way. >___>

Posted by: sketch143

ah well, whatever.. my opinion stands.. get rid of it on ebay as soon as possible

Posted by: aychseven

caveat emptor. if you buy something sold on ebay "as is" without asking questions, you're screwing yourself, and its not the sellers fault. whatever happened to personal responsibility? sheesh

Posted by: Timsta

what has the mobile world gone too..... then again. i sold my grade 1 tricycle on there and claimed it was used by pamela anderson...
