this issue just started today. i disconnected the phone from the Cingular network while i was in the dentist office. an hour later when i am leaving i hold down the "power" button to reconnect to the network. it connects, but after about 5 seconds, the phone locks up. keypad doesn't respond, and touch screen won't work. any ideas?

Have you tried doing a hard reset?

i've tried both pressing the rest button and taking the battery out completely. not sure if either of those are considered "hard resets"

Try doing an entire zero-out wipe....search the Palm support site for instructions how to do this. This will erase all your data, so backup everything..

Another thing, update the firmware. You're running old firmware. =P

A zero out reset (method 2) involves holding on the "down" button , pressing the Power button (red button), connecting the Treo with the hotsync cable and pressing the hotsync button. While keeping all of them held down, poke the reset hole with your stylus. Difficult to do, but the trick is to use your mouth to poke the reset hole with the stylus.

Zero out reset is the true "hard reset" that will wipe out everything and restore the Treo back to factory conditions. All other resets won't wipe everything out because the Treo is NVFS. All this time people want to not lose their data when the power is gone and when we do have it, we don't want that anymore. Personally, I was quite happy without NVFS.

ok, i did the hard reset as shown on the palm website, but now when i try to connect to the network, it says "SIM card not found" eventhough the card is in the phone.

edit: ok, the phone will now connect to cingular, but the problem of locking up still exists. is there a tutorial on updating the firmware?
