Any Fido users of the P800?

Anyone on the board currently using a P800 on the Fido network?

If so, did you have any issues setting up the phone? Any problems with

* GPRS connectivity (ie with a laptop)
* GPRS within the phone
* WAP settings
* Fido sim card issues
* Connectivity (ie, how well does it stay locked on to its signal during conversations)

Anything else?

I hope someone has "gone before me" with this phone. I've just ordered one, should have it by next Thursday, but it'd be cool if someone either discovered there's no problems with Fido and the P800, or if there was, maybe you could share your solutions with me before I get my phone?

In the meantime, once I have the phone for a week or so, I'll post an initial review about my own trials and (hopefully no) tribulations with the phone on Fido's GPRS/GSM network.

My P800 is arriving on Thursday as well and though I am currently on Rogers' GSM network with my T68i, I was never able to get the internet working flawlessly. Rogers did not care to provide any support either since the phone was not purchased from them. If Fido is better, I would ddefinitely consider switching. If only Fido had more expansive plans (mintues-wise).

i have no problem at all using p800 on fido. before I used t68 and i am disappointed with its RF and everything and I lose my trust with SE and completely turn to motorola. BUT after p800, I gain my trust back to SE since its RF is *much* better than t68 and it is almost the same as my v60g. i am waiting someone who using p800 with fido and set up MMS service with www.nowmms.com. If you got your p800 and signed up nowmms.com MMS service, i would like to play a couple of MMS with someone using fido like me.

Have been using my p800 on Fido for about 3 weeks now. Works great. No issues with SIM. I just got back from a trip overseas and the phone worked quite well roaming on Fido in Germany, UAE and Qatar. It took me quite a bit of fiddling around before I got GPRS to work but now it does and it flys! This is a great phone.

Imoffat, I caught the comments about your issues with GPRS early on, and saw that you found a solution. Could you recap it in this thread?

Thanks!

Okey Dokey....have been meaning to post the setup info for Fido and P800 anyways

*Control Panel
*Internet Accounts
assign a new name to account eg: GPRS1
under preferred select which account you will use if you have more than one set up
*other
dial-up timeout = 5minutes
GPRS timeout = 5minutes
Preferred mode=automatic
now go back the the Internet account page
click on the account name and then on edit
under connection type = GPRS
click on advanced
user name=fido
password=fido
address=wap.fido.ca
click on Log in
check the box beside Get IP address automatically
also check the box beside Get DNS address automatically
now go back to
*Control Panel
*Wap Accounts
account name = i used Fido
internet account= whatever you called it in this case GPRS1
check the box beside use proxy
address: 205.151.11.11
port= 9201
username= fido
password=fido

and that should be it. The issue I had seemed to be with the IP Address. on my t68m i believe it was 205.151.011.011 which doesn't work on the p800

have fun
