v600 questions

I have recently baught a new Motorola v600 phone off of Ebay but I have been having some problems with it. I have T-Mobile as my carrier (pay as you go) but I cannot get a good signal where I am at, I have a friend that lives in the same complex as me with a RAZR V3 and he can get coverage almost anywhere in the building. I have read a few reviews about my phone that said that it should pick up as good as a RAZR can but it seems it cannot. So I was wondering if it could be the fact that my phone has Cingular BIOS on it(it is unlocked) and that it could be downgrading my signal since it is using a different network than Cingular. I also looked around online and foun that the Ebay specs might be wrong, they have it listed a a quad band phone but other sites show it as only a triband phone, that is unless Cingular as reflashed it to work with the 850 channel.

So my question is: Is there something wrong with my phone that I cannot get a signal inside my school compared to my friends RAZR that has an internal intenna and still gets service? Is it like I said about the Cingular firmware downgrading my phone, if it is how do I change it(I have the data cable cd and kit for my phone) and where would I get the new firmware, preferably either T-mobiles or Motos originaly firmware for it? Or did I just hear wrong and the v600 just has lousy reception and there is nothing I can do about it?

Sorry about all of the noobish questions but unfortunitly I was on a budget(I'm a college student) and could not afford a top of the line phone like the RAZR and had to get this.

Thanks

is it an unlocked v600 phone or is it branded to tmobile??

maybe it's reading off the sim rather than the cell tower. My unbranded L6 is reading off the cell tower which is why it's getting a much stronger signal than my branded v330.

It is an unlocked cell phone, it does however pop up with the Cingular network when I turn it on and off (yuck!!) but it does have a T-mobile SIM card in it though.

Well atleast they said it was unlocked anyways.

How can I tell if it has been unlocked? Because I am beginning to think that you are right that it is not unlocked since I am not able to connect to T-Mobiles shopping area(where you download ringtones, backgrounds, and things like that).

Well now I got a big problem, I figured it would be best to just reflash my phone with a downloaded manufacturer reflash from Motomodders.net. I downloaded Flashbackup v1.6 and backed up my original phones firmware(didn't know the memory size) so I made a backup of both sizes. anyways I tried to use the downloaded file called "TRIPLETS_G_0B.09.72R_reflash.shx" and even took extra care to select that it was a backup of another phone and pointed to the 32 meg file for my PDS back up incase something went wrong(please don't tell me I made the mistake here). Also I had forgot to remove the SIM card from the phone(don't know if this matters or not) before I flashed it. Anyways now my phone will not start but when I hook it to flashbackup it recognizes the phone but when I go to try to restore it it either tells me one of 2 things: it needs to restart my phone to start the boot loader or it starts the boot loader and just seems to freeze when it is contacting my phone. Is there any way that I can reflash my phone with either the new firmware or atleast reload the annoying Cingular firmware so that I may take it to them to have them unlock it. Or am I know the proud owner of a new v600 paperweight?

Thanks for any input guys.
