stay with samsung a900 or switch to SKII?

I am currently using a Samsung A900 phone from Verizon wireless (red mp3 phone with the spinny wheel on the front) - i've had it for about eight months or so. I love its' mp3 and video function and the expandable memory for taking tons of photos and long video. i love its camera and camcorder. however, i text message / use AIM a TON and the keypad is less than stellar - i always have to re-type things because the keys pretty much suck. also, the AIM function freezes a ton, and has limited buddylist capabilites.
i'm considering getting a t-mobile sidekick II. if i got one, i would probably do prepaid, since i am still under contract with verizon for a few months, and not use the SKII for making many phone calls - use it for only data, pretty much.

a couple questions i have:
can i buy a SKII off eBay or a friend and just get a prepaid Sim card from T-Mobile?
how easy is it to switch from t-mobile's prepaid to a regular contract plan?
is this idea just really stupid?

Yes, you can buy on off ebay as long as it is a T-Mobile branded Sidekick II

easy, I think T-Mobile might want to encourage this as much as possible, but I'm not sure they might charge a little

Depends: First of all if you like the video and camera it is a HUGE step down, secondly the Sidekick III is about to come out (expected in a month or two), and it will have a better camera, hopefully the mp3 ringtones, much improved camera, expandable memory, video recording, EDGE etc., so you definitely definitely want to wait for it if you want a Sidekick. On the other hand, the Side. On the other hand, if you just want to messenging then the Sidekick II is currently very cheap (and will get even cheaper when the new one comes out) so it COULD be the way to go too

1. Yes, you can either buy an unused SIM card from eBay and call T-Mobile and have it activated with a SK plan or buy it straight from T-Mobile.
2. Real easy, just call up T-Mobile or go to a store.
3. I also have a prepaid SK and a phone from Verizon. I use AIM a lot and like the email and web browsing capabilities so I think it's a great idea as long as you have the space. The SKIII is NOT coming out until 2007! Don't believe the hype!

there are so many reasons why the Sidekick III will be out shortly (2-4 months) that it is not even worth listing them, but those reasons have been stated many times in the Danger forums. thanks for all the help! i'm going to buy a sidekickII off of ebay.
for a sim card, i would have to make sure it is SIDEKICK prepaid, not just regular prepaid, correct?

Yes, make sure it's for Sidekick. There's only one seller selling them on eBay for $25 altogether. You'll find him easily; just type in "Sidekick prepaid SIM card."

thanks so much for all your help! i have a couple of kicks i'm bidding on and i just got a sim card from the $25 person... hopefully i'll have a working sidekick by next week!
