L6 Great reception - no reception

I purchased an new unlocked L6 for use on Cingular. I knew up front that I might have to do the quad band mod as Cingular uses 850. took it out of the box, popped in SIM and had great reception, all five bars. Played around with my new phone for a while and discovered Settings - Providers. I do a search and see Cingular and CellOne. I should have left it alone but I clicked on Cingular and selected Register. It registered and now displays Cingular on the screen. Everything is still working good though.

I travel to an area where there is no service and when i am back in my service are I cannot get service. I try my SIM in other phones and not problems. I search for providers with the L6 and no luck. I travel to a strong reception area and get a one or two bars so it doesn't appear to be the phone.

I'm doing the quad band mod tonight but I wonder why i had all five bars and then none. is it because I "registered" with Cingular? What is "registering" anyway? Should I somehow un "register"

Hi, I have exactly the same problem as you do. I've had the phone for about a month and I have travelled extensively since then with no problems whatsoever with reception. I did the quad mod and it shows the 850 added but no improvement on reception. Have you had any luck in fixing the problem??

are your network settings set to automatic?? try the 850/1900 setting on the network menu

I've tried on the 850/1900 on the 900/1800 and automatic. I had the phone on top of my laptop while working (speakers directly underneath playing music) perhaps?? I did play around with my network settings and phone would "register" with network when I turned it on. Did master reset and master clear several times, no more register, but reception is either 1-2 bars or most of the time is "no service" especially if I pick it up and the longer I hold it in my hand the lower the reception (if any) and then it disappears...how odd is that?!

Finished the quad mod and have had no further issues with it. I travel to an area where Cingular buys service from Cellular One and the phone is constantly switching back and forth between providers but reception is good with both. I tried setting the network settings manually to 850/1900 and no change until I did the quad mod.
