E815 TransFlash Card Format Problem

Has anyone had any problems formatting a 1 GB TransFlash card using the Motorola E815? When I inserted the card in my E815 and selected format ... the phone started to repeatedly start and stop (using the default Moto startup screen). The startup screen would appear for a few seconds ... turn off ... than then back on ... repeatedly. After several minutes, I had to remove the battery to get it to stop. When I restarted the phone ... the start / stop resumed ... again I removed the battery. What happened here? Is this the normal format procedure? This is a new E815 with the latest software version 8720_01.1E.00. How long should it take for the E815 to format a 1 GB card?

I used my computer to format the 1 GB TransFlash card (FAT) and then loaded 900 MB of mp3 tunes on it. My E815 has no problems with the computer formatted (FAT) card and plays the mp3 tunes just fine. Why did I have a problem with phone formatting the 1 GB TransFlash card?
