8125: Buttons appear to have stopped working

Don't know why, but when I got up today, most of my buttons have stopped working. Pressing the green or red buttons does nothing. The 2 small menu buttons do nothing. The navigation key does nothing. Pressing the button in the center of the navigation key activates the screen align process where you're asked to tap the cross-hair 5 times. The wake-up button on top produces a beep that sounds much like the voice activated beep. The device has been working fine for quite sometime and the only thing I've done lately is to install the Beta version of the Opera browser...which has been working fine. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Is it safe to assume you have already done a soft reset? Poke your stylus into the hole next to the IR port on the right side of the device.

Yes, I've done a soft reset, but not by using the hole on the right side. I've always done it by holding down the button on top and answering yes to the question that follows. Are both doing to same thing?

I always thought that I was doing a soft reset. However, I've tried both and neither seem to help the button problems. I'm about ready to call Cingular for an exchange.

Well, if you do that, then you'll end up having to load up the device you receive in exchange. In that case, you might as well try calling them and see if they have any troubleshooting tips. Failing that, a hard reset is worth a go. If the hard reset doesn't do the trick, then go for a swap.

Since the buttons are wonky, to hard-reset go to Settings->System->Clear Storage.

Miraculously, after charging overnight, everything is working just fine. Not sure why, but I've had something similar happen with this device before. I'm thinking it has something to do with the previous night's charge.
