8125 SD card and Mac

Hi Guys,
I just bought an SD card reader to transfer movies and music to my 8125 via a card reader. The problem is when I insert the card the reader lights up recognizing the card, but the Mac doesn't read it nothing shows up on the desktop. I know I can't connect the phone without MissingSync, but why will it not read the SD card?
