Where the workstation is now standing room only?

Kinda feel bad for my local Corp store as the store got remodeled and all the workstations were raised and all the associated were working standing up.

Is there a particular reason why this was done?

oh my favorite subject.

Here's the story of the Daytona retail COR store.......

1. Been told we were getting remodeled for nearly 3 years but it never happened.
2. Finally get blueprints for new store remodel
3. 6 months later construction starts, just before the holidays
4. Construction takes 3 times longer than scheduled
5. New store looks great, functions HORRIBLE. All workstations grouped together in 4's, countertops where computers sit are about 4" too low so you hunch all day, no chairs so you stand all day, wood floors, hard counters and no carpet mean VERY loud store when there are more than 5 people in it, phones scattered about with NO live bar/live wall, ugly green/light blue walls with brown peg boards for phones and accessories, white countertops which look like hell after a week of use, still no public restroom, extra paystation that didn't work for two months and collected dust, customers have 2 benches to sit on, about 4' each

it sucks......bigtime. But hey, who cares...it looks great. And this is the "new prototype design" of cingular stores

If I sit down in front of a customer I get written up.

yea we are not allowed to have chairs on the sales floor except for use by the customers.

I'm in WI and we used to stand up until about a year and a half ago then we got remodeled and we now all sit down behind desks. I wonder if we're ahead or behind you guys as far as design goes. I've gotten used to sitting down while activating and it would kinda suck if we got remodeled and we had to stand again. Not too sound lazy but.....

I think it kind of varies by your market. Im in ILL and ive heard our new DOS wants to make us stand again. As of now we all have our own desks, which is awesome I think. My customers always know where to find me even if they dont remember my name. They can always say, "its the guy who sits at that desk"

ours have always been standing room only but that's probably because we're a legacy blue market and blue stores never had stools. The only time we can use a stool is for medical reasons and a pile of doctor's notes are optained.

hahaha im glad i work for an agent i sit and relax while i do the activations

In my area it was definitely a blue thing. COR stores all had chairs or stools for both customers and reps. I like the idea of both people getting comfortable to accomplish a sale that always involves an extended period of time. We tried to put a few stools on the floor for people and they were yanked off the floor by upper management. It is pretty sad when trying to upgrade elderly people and they have to walk out into the mall to sit while we do their account. Sometimes we have to go out and get them only when payment is due or signing contracts are ready to be done. I don't understand this company's mentality when it comes to sales. You, the customer are making a major contractual purchase that takes time. I could see if we were a cash and carry type business but we are not. I have bought cars in less time than it takes some accounts to do and I'll be dam'd if I will stand there for that amount of time. We have had so many customers call and complain already about it. I had a lady start to fall over from exhaustion while I upgraded her 5 line family talk account.

I am suprised with workplace ergonomics they have everyone stand. You can bet your butt that upper management gets to sit down anytime they want. Just another example of management messing with the people who actually work for a living and who make this company what it is.

Well look at it this way, someone gets back problems or problems with their feet, that would be a very nice lawsuit.

Before the merger the COR "new feel" stores were suppose to be the ones with individual work stations(desks) and the phone "live bar" in the center. When the merger occurred they did an abrupt change and followed the Blue store layout with everyone standing. Apparently they believe that sitting down slows down the sales process.

My take is that you can always throw 10 people in one starship Enterprise station (thats what I call the circular enclosures) compared to the maximum five individual work stations under the old design.

Like I have said many times before Crapular can't make a decision and stick with it for more than 3 weeks .
The upper Mgt are usually lazy clowns mixed in with some hard working ones . Eg. my ARSM was in the store once in a year - gee ? get to know your top sellers or what ? When is the last time you heard of a Mgt been SAM'd or fired ?? almost never . but sales reps = constantly .
MGT get to sit all day and send emails to each other from what i have seen and heard - also they have lots of meetings " lets have a meeting to see if we should have a meeting guys "

" When do you want to go for lunch ?" or " How many subs did your district do in the last 10 minutes ? " or " Why does everyone quit all the time ? We can't seem to keep anyone for longer than 6 months -- I am getting tired of hiring 20 year kids all day "

Well these same fools decided to make everyone stand except for them.
I guarantee customers like sitting better , the reps can sell more because of the relaxed atmosphere , a phone confrontation is less severe when Toothless gets to sit down , I sell way more features sitting down than I did in stand up store , older people NEED to sit down Crapular !!!! plus people with babies need a chair , long upgrades and activations 20-45 minutes need chairs for cust and the rep .
Crapular wants the cust in and out - simple as that !!!! Beat it basically
Then the Mgt talk about reputation all the time ???
It makes us look way more professional by having desks vs stand up counters .
Maybe the Mgt will have us selling burgers with that phone soon ?
