Motorola T720 Review

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

so I saw a previous post for a review for this phone, but I had a little bit more to say so I thought I'd start a new thread.

I've had the phone for a week; I really like it so far. Physically, the phone isn't as nice as the v60. You can tell it's plastic and the flip and battery cover creak and shift a little bit. The buttons have a nice feel though, and it's pretty light. After using an 8890 and a Samsung n625, it felt big at first but really it's not much bigger than either of those phones.

Battery life is decent; it lasts about 2-2.5 days with regular use. I charge it every other night but I know if I forget I'll still have battery for the next full day.

Reception is great, probably as good if not better than my old 8890, although I don't have a 3590 to test it against anymore (of the phones i've had, the 3590 has had the best rf and the t720 feels just as good).

Voice quality is excellent. I've heard people say that Motorolas can't compare to Samsungs, but in my opinion they are both great. The t720's speaker is really loud, so I can easily talk when I'm in a crowded area, and if i'm not then sometimes i keep the speaker a few inches from my ear and still hear fine at mid-range volume.

This phone has polyphonic ringtones, although they do not sound good as my n625's (so probably not as good as the S105). They are still pretty good though and if you're looking for a business phone, this one has many good professional ringers. In fact I was disappointed at first that there weren't more songs.

The phone is packed with features and the games are good. It is a little more complicated to use because they let you customize so much of the phone. The opening screen you can put up 6 different "favorites" to make navigation real fast, or hit the menu key and bring up 9 different buttons you can select w/ the keypad. but things like setting an alarm take a while to find, and then you can set the alarm to go on different days (and reoccur) so you have to know the date or you'll set an alarm for yesterday (doesn't automatically change the date to the nearest day). hope that wasn't too confusing...basically you can customize a lot of it. once oyu get used to it it really is pretty intuitive.

the screen is good, at least 4096 colors are good enough for me, and they take advantage of the screen (i.e., the phonebook shows around 10 names in your phonebook at a time). in the daylight it is hard to see but it's still usable.

things i don't like: menus are a little snow, when you click a button sometimes you have to wait for the animation to go (like if you're going ot games, you have to wait for it to roll the dice). or if you are flipping through the phonebook and you try to find "h", it takes a tad to find g, then another quick half-sec to find h. also, i wish it had photo-caller ID, as far as i know it does'nt have this but i only have the t720 and not the t720i so it might be different (i can't hook up the camera to my phoen :-().

overall though, i really like this phoen a lot and it'll finally be a phone i keep for longer than a month (only phones i've done that with are the v60g and 8890). If you're comparing to the S105, the phone doesn't have as nice of a screen or as nice of a ringer, but for me it came $80 cheaper which made a huge difference. Also, from what i've read it seems like the s105 is hard to hear, and (i dont know if this holds true for the s105) but my samsung n625's interface was not as intuitive as nokia or motorola's, so functionally the t720 might be better. I would definitely get this phone over the t300, and would recommend the t720 to anyone looking for a great color phone.

How strong is the vibe compared to the other phones you've used?

Can you easily feel it if the phone is in your pocket?

Thanks.

i could feel it pretty easily. i've only used it once; it was in my jacket pocket and i could feel my jacket vibrating. it doesn't make the loud whine like the 8890, which i like better...

to be honest i don't use vibrate much so hopefully someone else will post up a better comparison.

could someone list the differences of the T720 and the T720i?

Posted by: terthen

from what i've heard

the t720 cannot use the camera attachment, whereas the t720i can. however, the t720 has more memory for games and stuff since the t720i seems to use that space for the camera program.

according to LVWireless and BongoWireless, t720 canNOT be flashed to a t720i.

I think that's the main difference; if someone can help me here--i think becasue the t720i can use the camera attachment, it also has picture caller ID (t720 does not have it?)?

and T720i is only 1900mhz while T720 is 1900/900? i believe...

Posted by: terthen

i think i also heard something about the 850 MHz only being disabled in t720i's, so if you take it to someone they can enable it...

If the animations of the menus are slow there shold be a way to turn them off which speeds up the menus considerably. I have played with this on my v66 and the menus are much faster without animation.

I'm pretty sure that the 720i replaces the email function of the 720 w/ the camera applications too.

Yes the T720i can have the 850 band enabled.

AzNxpLaYaH02 - i think you meant 850/1900 for the T720
