t68i faceplate review/pics

Here is my SILVER faceplate bought from Eforcity. I also bought another red that I didnt put on yet. The silver is more sparkly than my webcam will show.
This dealer has sold me Allure faceplates (which I find rare) before which were ok, and but the quality of these t68i faceplates are clearly non-OEM. There were chips of sprayed pain on the inside. Additionally, the faceplate lens seems to press up on the actual lcd, causing a noticable ripple effect (like when you push your finger on an lcd monitor) when the phone is idle. This will slowly drive me insane.
Nevertheless they were cheap (but didnt offer free s/h like other vendors). The thing that pissed me off was that a day after my order I realized that I forgot to add a $.99 Torx6 screwdriver and the guy on the phone would not let me add it back to my order because it was "already in the computer." He wouldnt open a new order for me either, without charging another $5.95 s/h. This pissed me off.

Here is the desired glow effect between buttons that I was looking for, inspired by Magik's review. I will put on the red and post when I get bored of this one.

did you change the case yourself?
is it dangerous??
I've been inching of getting rid of the dust but i'm kinda skeptical about removing the case...

i dont think its hard. pick up one of those air sprays for your computer at compusa and you should be straight.

word2burga, this may sound stupid but did the faceplates you ordered from Eforcity come with the lens. If so is it plastic or glass?
my t68m is all scratched up and all i really need is the lens as the actual faceplate is still ok.
Posted by: word2burga
it does have a lens and its plastic.

romarchez, what was the site for the cheap t6 torx screwdriver... thanks

There are two sites that I know of for really cheap stuff. The one referenced above is
www.eforcity.com
Another is
www.cellphoneshop.net

Warning!
Do Not buy from Cellphoneshop.net
I purhcased 5 colored housings for my T68i and they are less than I had hoped for. No instructions, and missing pieces, the antenna is part of the phone so you cannot remove it and trying to use the rear part with a new faceplate wont work, the infrared port cover does not fit on the new faceplate with the original backplate and they did not include any with the housings I ordered. I have searched for replacement Antennas but nobody is selling them for t68i's. The only thing that was good was the torx #6 screwdriver.

Thanks from the warning CorpZ. I have not purchased from either of these vendors, only heard of them.
It sounds like you were unsuccessful in taking the phone apart, I ripped this link from a thread on Esato:
http://www.burrillj.fsnet.co.uk/maineric_t68.htm
Gets into changing LEDs, but also covers how to open up the whole enchelada.
When you say that you searched for replacement Antennas ,why are you doing that? I am also interested in getting some additional antennas so that I can experiment with boosting my phone reception.

I was able to take the phone apart after a quick look at instructions from a link on the board, I really only needed it to make sure there werent any flimsy flat cables that could be broken, The phone in made pretty well so I didn't have to worry about that.
I was looking for replacement antennas because the original is actually a sticker(wasn't able to find them anywhere ), it can be removed but I have heard that its a pain in the as to get it to stick again. I will probabaly try to make my own but I'm not sure how hard that would be. If I do end up doing it, I will post it on this board.

Nice phone

I asked SE about getting a new antenna, here is their reply:

Unfortunately the faceplate is not removable nor is the antenna available for purchase it is part of the phone.

So that rules out an official venue.
(sorry but I will be cross posting this message to another thread since we cannot search)

I and two other friends have attmpted to switch faceplates. Everytime we tried to do so, there was always one screw that wouldn't turn. After trying to unscrew the last screw w/ the torx 6 I noticed that the screw got damaged. Is there anyway to remove the screw and replace it???
Posted by: Jamyl
I have ordered from both sites. Didn't have a problem w/ cellphoneshop, but I had to wait FOREVER to receive my eforcecity order. Also like someone else mentioned, the quality of their faceplates was suspect.

Daydeal probably has the best aftermarket faceplates. I bought a T68i blue fire clear faceplate, but then they sent me a T68m one and put a sticker marked "T68i/m"...i actually like the T68m one better =p. Although their prices are high, the faceplate will probably last longer than others. It only took 3-4 days for me to get my package! (They are based in Chico, CA).
EDIT: Blue Laser Keypad was bought seperately ($3)..It comes with a cheap rubbery keypad that probably noone likes so if you were to buy a faceplate there, be sure to add a keypad! (unless you decide to use the OEM one)

Ebay usually has really good deals. They even have T6 screwdrivers. Thanks for the referral to DayDeal.com, they seem really good.

Also, you said that the T68i gets bad reception. Wouldn't those little signal booster thingys help that? I'm just wondering.
Posted by: raver0600
those actually do nothing.
