omg omg omg this thing is AMAZING!!!!! i saw it next to a 904SH in Hong Kong..... the differences in them are obviously the physical differences, but one thing I didn notice was that the 905SH has a brighter screen than that of the 904SH. They had them both playing videos (with CHINESE subtitles - and we all know what kind of quality that means if they can display chinese characters!! - bloody fine!!) I didn't get a close enough look.... but I can tell you these are both mighty fine phones, I really like the 905SH but it's a lot more expensive than the 904SH (obviously...... ) I will get pictures if I go back there if anyone wants....

I was pretty impressed. I think the 904SH was $3788 and the 905SH was $4*** not suire how much but $4000++, prices in HK Dollars.

The questions I have are (and referring to both the 904SH and 905SH..., so 904SH users please answer and I would be more than grateful) - assume both run Japanese firmware.

> Can the GPRS/wap/internet/whatever settings be changed?
> Can the MMS settings be changed?
> Can the email settings be changed?
> I am assuming the tuner on the 905SH doesn't work outside Japan.... since they have their own version of NTSC am I correct?
> Can I make video calls with these phones on a carrier other than Vodafone KK Japan?

Thanks!
Dan

Well your post wins the award for most creative description of a mobile phone, although I'm not quite sure I agree with you

In response to your questions...

> Can the GPRS/wap/internet/whatever settings be changed?
904SH - Yes, 905SH - No
> Can the MMS settings be changed?
904SH - Yes, 905SH - No
> Can the email settings be changed?
904SH - No, 905SH - No
> I am assuming the tuner on the 905SH doesn't work outside Japan.... since they have their own version of NTSC am I correct?
Well... the digital TV tuner won't work, but the analogue one should work in Hong Kong fine... I've heard reports of older Voda JP phones with analogue tuners working in the US and Canada, so it should work in HK too.
> Can I make video calls with these phones on a carrier other than Vodafone KK Japan?
904SH - Yes, 905SH - No

The 905SH is hard-coded to only connect to Voda Japan's network, so the best you can do is get a dummy Voda JP SIM card to use the phone's non-network features.

I should also add that you can't do any of the above with the 904SH just yet. We're still waiting for the unlock method to open up network access to networks other than Voda Japan's.

I thought Timsta could now unlock the newer V903SH models with aid of opening the thing up and doing some physical tweaking or soldering or something?

Thanks for the clarifications, will also try and get pics, although I don't head to Sham Shui Po often (the area I spotted the phone in > they have pretty much most of the VOdafone models there too )

I assume that both 904 and 905 cannot be unlocked yet for use on another carrier..... (yet....?)

Posted by: Timsta

i can unlock those.. still need to open slightly.. not as much now. but its safer to open 100% up.. then do the partial open tho.

i can't believe they are seling the 905.. especially it can't be used...

i heard that hk should be possible to get the tv function to work.

Posted by: Kevbodian

im pretty sure the 905 will work in areas that still have 3G.

Well it depends how the phone works. Because the 'Select Network' option isn't in the menus anymore, is the phone set to manually connect to Voda JP's network, or is it set to Auto based on the SIM card? If the former, then no, it won't work. If the latter, then yes, it will work if the phone can be unlocked, which I don't think anyone's bothered to try yet.

Posted by: Timsta

there are many ppl out there who think the razr is teh best thing out there cause they aren't into phones and just dont' know any better from lack of exposure to the real world of cells

Posted by: john0213

i can show them with any samsung new line up...D820 or D800 etc and beat the crap out of their razor, btw the D series are only going for around 400 bucks~~

Posted by: lamplighter

RAZR's are to mobile phones what the iPod is to MP3 players.
People buy them because they don't want to take the time to see the alternatives, or in many cases even see if there are alternatives.

John- the 904 unlocking syndrome sounds serious, I think you should seek medical attention
