My W806i hybrid project

I've had this idea for about 2 weeks now to make my W810 have a lens cover. So after reading about the project : Black and White, it got me thinking on how i'm was going to go about doing this.

Well my w800 housing finally arrived from cnn.cn (with missing parts lol, which is to be expected)

I am currently adjusting the backplate to fit on my W810.
I will post pics of it soon.

edit : I've fitted it on the back and everything works perfectly. Of course the camera doesnt turn on when I flip the lens switch, but that wasn't what I was going for. I just needed something to cover up the lense.

here's some images. They're not the greatest they were taken with my v635 at medium quality. (too lazy to put the tf card inside it)

Right now its still white, but i'm planning on painting it black, with the orange accents that is has right now. After I paint i'll put back the SE orb logo back.

here it is. I'm not quite happy with it since I think i put too much paint on it, and it filled part of the sony ericsson engravement. Some time down the road I'll probably buy another backing and redo it.

with that being said, anyone want to buy a w800 front housing & keypad and orange middle plate with buttons (dont' have the mspd cover though)?

if you can, could you write an in-depth tutorial on how to mod the w810 (with pictures

so that we could all *consider* doing it?

by the way have u thought of using the orange w800 side case with it?

All I did was follow Darkn355's instructions on how he wanted to mount a 810 middle onto a 800 front and back. Just look at the part where he mounts the back part on and you should be fine. 1 small cut on the back housing, and 2 small cuts on the middle housing.

i was thinking of using the orange middle, but i'm a little scared of taking all the internals out of my phone and putting in something new. lol Dont want to break anything.

what color black did you use? specifically what brand, etc...?

can't remember what brand name it was(it's at my parents house). It was just a fast drying flat black spray paint. It only cost me like 5 CAD for the can.

quick clarification. did you put JUST the camera cover from a 800 over the 810's cover? or is it the ENTIRE backing?

It's the whole back panel from the W800i expect ported onto a W810i backing.

It's not really a tutorial, it's just to screw around on your free time. Just buy some spray paint or some model hobby paint and get some extra housing and pimp your housing.

I really want to know how well the external speaker sounds with the w800 back cover on... it looks to me like it would muffle the sound a bit. Is this a sacrifice for covering the lense?

I'm not afraid of scratching my lense at all, so I'll stick with the infinetely more attractive regular case.

Lawman, how did the case mod affect the speaker volume on your w810?

well since there is a hole near the bottom of the silver circle, (below the mirror) the sound isn't muffled at all. Afterall the w800 had a speaker there in the same spot. Actually I think it sounds a little louder, due to different acoustics in the phone casing.

edit. I just ordered a complete black housing off of ebay (god, i hope it fits) I noticed that the SE orb logo doesn't look right. I'm hoping i can just glue the one i'm using now onto it. It was a lot cheaper than buying a whole oem housing from cnn.cn. Since I just want the backing part. Approximately 1/2 price, and I won't have to paint it again lol.

you can use the middle and the back only. The front wont work cause the the different screen sizes and keyboard layouts

Did you end up using the black W800 back you got on eBay, or are the pics in your sig still of the one you painted?

i threw out the ebay ones, they were crap. These are all pics of the painted backing. (Aside from the k750 ones)
