I'm currently with tmobile and have an MDA. for whatever reason, i lose some calls with any tmobile phone in some areas near my house. so i'm thinking about signing up with cingular.

Is the 8125 the same phone with a few changes as the tmobile mda?

Is the phone call problems that I read about fixable with the 8125 like they are with the MDA with a rom upgrade?

Any major non fixable prblems with the 8125?

anything else I should need to know?

I ask cuz it looks like the best deal atm is amazon.com and it's 2 year contract and I'd hate to get stuck with a phone for that long and have it suck.

thanks.

The 8125 and the mda are functionally the same piece of hardware, just branded by two different companies. Apart from some minor cosmetic differences and differing keyboards, they are internally more or less copies of one another (manufactured by HTC innovations).

Rom upgrades can be had for both and issues are corrected as time goes on, but as an owner of the 8125 I can say even with the stock Cingular rom there really arent many problems (apart from possible slowdown for heavy users, which again can be rectified by flashing with a rom free of the cingular additions which cause slowdown).

As far as I am aware there are no major issues with the 8125, and I've had none so far with mine. Again, you'll notice little difference between the mda and 8125; they are the same machine with minor cosmetic touches and stock software additions to distinguish them, flash it and you wont know the difference.

I would think that the best approach would be to just unlock your MDA, and then switch to cingular getting whatever the cheapest/free phone is when signing a contract, and then just use your MDA.

No point in buying another piece of identical hardware.

I am using a 8125 (stock with original cingular rom) and it kinda lags for a second every now and then, but I can keep a quite a bit open before it gets worse. Really not that big of an issue, but if you are a super power user I could see that coming into play.

As already pointed out some more effecient roms can be had that shouls (reportedly) make a big difference.
