V3i Problem- Java App Data Access Help Needed

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Hi All,

Just switched to the V3i from my old V3, my carrier is Tmobile.

All my settings are exactly the same for internet etc. as on my old phone, browser is working beautifully, MMS fine. The problem is that one Java application I love, which needs access to the data network to operate, seems to be calling on the regular phone line instead of using the data network when I start it up.

The program is Google Maps, which was working perfectly on my old V3. But on the V3i, when I start the program, it goes to the "terms and conditions" loading page and just hangs there until a message comes up stating that I need a data connection.

But instead of using a data connection and showing the graphics associated with that, the "phone call" icon pops up and I hear that beeping sound you get when a call can't get through- it's clearly making a phone call instead of using data.

Can anyone help me with this strange problem? I've come to rely on google Maps a great deal and really miss it on the new phone. Any help greatly appreciated, thanks.

Joel

I am no expert here but I was having a problem with a java application. Have you got a 'Java Session' in the web sessions menu? I had to set-up this session for my Java program to access the internet.

Name: Java Session
Homepage: (The homepage for the application)
Service type: WAP
Line1 type: Modem
GPRS APN: (whatever your T-mobile Internet web session is called)

Hope this helps, as I say I am not an expert

Thanks, sounds like it's worth a try... anyone know the address for the site Google Maps goes to to access data? I only know the page where you download the program.

Thanks,

Joel

just copy the websessions file from your old phone to the new phone with p2k tools

Hmmm, might be worth a try. I have recreated the original web session letter for letter, but perhaps there is some weird formatting issue that's causing a problem.

What directory on the tree are web sessions files stored in when I connect the phone to PKtools?

Thanks,

Joel

Paolo, your suggestion worked- there must have been something in my old web session file that worked, though for the life of me can't tell what it is... thanks much for your help!

Hello there, Paolo and Product.
I do have the same problem - Motorola v3 Black
As far as I understand, in the "Java Session" I have to specify:
Name: Java Session
Homepage: (The homepage for the application, in this case is this the home page for "Google Maps"? - If so, can you please tell me?)
Service type: WAP
Line1 type: Modem
GPRS APN: (is this the name of the Web Session from my provider, to internet access?)

Please, if you can copy the "Java Session" (step by step) for me, I would greatly appreciate.
Thanks in advance,
Rubens
