Kyocera Slider Remix Video Recorder Question...

Is there any possible way to record longer than 15 seconds?

Posted by: tcovil

Absolutely. You should use this site's Search feature to find relevant posts in more detail, but I'll give you the quick run-down: Find and download Kyocera Phone Support Toolkit (KPST) software. Connect the necessary USB cable from your phone to your computer, which will allow you using KPST to get into your phone's programming. From there, I think it's on the General tab that you'll find a setting for Record Time. It will be set to 15. Just change the value to 255 (the max it will let you change it to). Write your changes to the phone and presto, you can now record a 255-second clip.

Has anybody tried to make it more then 255 or is that the highest you can go??

That's the highest you can go. If you try to enter a value higher than 255, it gives you an error message and won't accept it.

Where can I get KPST at?

You can find it here on the forums. Just use the Search feature and search for keywords like "KPST" or "host". Threads that have software files linked often say something like "now hosting".

Yeah I tried to do that, but I can't find any links.

Also, does this void my warranty?

Try here and see if this link is still valid:

It was in the original thread http://www.howardforums.com/archive/topic/766519-1.html

Again, before I do this, does it void my warranty?

Others can give you a much more informed opinion than I, as I haven't had to return anything under warranty. But here's my opinion -- just don't hold me accountable for this info.

If you mess with your phone's hardware or software, then I would think that in theory, yes, you void your warranty. But that's only if it's obvious to the manufacturer that you have done something specifically no-no. Let me give you a hardware example. The KX5 is not designed to have changeable faceplates. 3rd parties still make these available, however, and you can change them out if you're careful and know what you're doing. Now if you change faceplates and then a month from now your camera goes out,was it because of changing the faceplate? Doubtful, unless you weren't careful. So you put the original faceplate back on, and THEN you return the phone because of the defective camera problem. No harm done, and they honor your warranty (they sure wouldn't have if you had left the new faceplate on).

I suspect that the same holds true with software. The question is whether it would be apparent to the manufacturer that you messed with your software. You certainly wouldn't want to tell them that you did. You'd have to tell them that the phone just started acting up (describing whatever the symptom is) and say nothing of QPST, KPST, BitPim, etc.

So I'm trying to figure out how to use this thing. I installed it, hooked up my phone via USB cable, and the configuration tool is showing 1 active port and 0 active phones. Do I need to do something special to get it to be detected?

Try going to Settings on your phone, then USB, and choose "Enable".

I tried putting it into USB Storage mode, and that still didn't make it show up in KPST.

My phone is the Slider Remix by the way.

Odds are you dont have the drivers installed.. Goto Device Manager on your computer while your phone is plugged in but not in USB storage mode and see if the phone is listed under ports and modems. If not, then you dont have the drivers installed...
