I read the following on another website about a samsung phone and I wondered if you can do this on the Sharp GX17, which is also on vodafone. If anyone knows let me know.
"if the phone was from vodafone then the firmware is their own and it makes the phone absolutely dreadful. You can flash the S****** firmware yourself if you have the correct data-cable and you google for the info (or you can find everything you need to know on howardforums.com). Flashing the firmware to the phone is a lot more straightforward than it seems and with the samsung firmware it's a great phone - I prefer it to the software on more recent s*******, such as ****. The vodafone version cripples it and looks damn ugly. It's designed to squeeze as much money from you as possible so every menu offers to send you to the vodafone live."

That's nonsense. You only go to the Vodafone live website if you want to download more content to the phone, and you don't pay for WAP access to Vodafone live in most countries anyway.

In any case, what you're saying isn't possible. The Vodafone-branded Sharp firmware for the GX17 is the only one in existence at the moment.

i also would like to point out.. flashing your own phone.. especailly sharps is very risky.. the risk for failure is high when doing it on your own w/o the proper tools
