Bluetooth phones for Toyota Camry

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

I am purchasing a Toyota Camry hybrid with Bluetooth capability. Toyota lists compatable phones on their website, where they also sell phones and service. So rather than being a useful list they only provide cell phones and service from Cingular and T-Mobile.

I have Verizon Wireless and was wondering if there's any reason that I couldn't use any bluetooth phone.

On Verizon's compatibility list, they have Toyota, though noting for the factory installed bluetooth only.

what toyotas have bluetooth that are standard toyota stereos/navigation size?

hybird in and the landcruisers are specific to vehicle. if we find out we can do something for everyone here since oemvalue.com are non bluetooth toyota systems

I have the Lexus hybrid, and assuming they use the same bluetooth system, your phone will work fine for making and receiving calls, however, you will not be able to transfer your phonebook, or even load it manually unless you have the Q and possibly the Treo 650

My Lexus doesn't allow for me to manually enter numbers, so I bought a GSM phone to do the phonebook transfers.

The Q does a nice job transferring contacts to the Lexus RX400h (or any car like the Toyota / Prius with the Denso kit) , because you don't need to transfer one contact at a time. Just use the Bluetooth Push Manager.

You can also transfer with a Nokia 6256i or use a notebook computer with this procedure:

Walt, still no PB transfer on the phones that don't have OPP.

Toyota only lists phones that are fully compatible. VZW phones will work, but only with the hands free profile. You won't be able to upload your phone book to the car.

I disagree. I own a Verizon VX9800, The V (whatever this is called now), and own a Camry Hybrid. I can successfully use my phone with the bluetooth capability and can also transfer my contacts via the vcard function. However, the annoying thing is that I find that I can only transfer my contact one by one.

I have version 1 of "The V" does the version 2 enable you to select a group and transfer the vcard function? The Camry Hybrid lets you create groups in your phone book and thought I can sync the groups from my phone to the car. I probably have to use a laptop to do this huh?

Yes, you're right. The vCard feature on the VX9800 allows you to push one contact at a time. That is the way most of the phones work actually.

Here is a collection of procedure manuals for the 'approved' handsets, you will see that Siemens and Sony are about the only ones that allow you to transfer the entire phone book at once.
