Guys, I'm lost...

I've tried reading through several threads and it sounds like another language.
Basically, I have a T-Mo Moto RAZR V3. From what I can gather, you can update the firmware on these phones to make them work better and things like that. I don't understand the difference in "flex" and "flash." And I have no idea if my phone has the latest and greatest firmware or not.
Please help a n00b.
