I guess I'm lucky that way...I live in a smallish town, and was walking down the street talking on my oh so blingy stock Moto V635 and THAT was turning heads.

are you serious??? hahaha

im actually thinking about a chrome pebl or a p300, i looked at v3i's too but they look too similar to regular razr's from what i can tell in pictures

Posted by: EChid

yes, I am serious, and yes, the average looker will not be able to tell the diff between the V3i and V3, especially if they see it from a distance.

Posted by: hybrid.09

Depends on your budget.

Posted by: absolutealex

The only phone that would really make me go OMGHI2U would be a vertu signature.

hi2u

Posted by: speedy0156

as far as budget, vertu and 8801 are out for now, im talking more like 400 or lower

Posted by: MNguyen281

so looks is > features right now? that's pretty shallow, but whatever floats your boat. get a LG KG800. to be honest though you cant turn heads with a cheap phone...

Posted by: dizzle247

tmobile MDA .. it'll turn heads when ur watching carlos mencia was sipping ur starbucks =)

Posted by: dizzle247

or the SE w950i .. hands down, sexiest phone on the market.

Posted by: break-r

it all depends on what you want more...for me, im more of a features guy, its just a bonus if the phone looks good..

D820 is a good choice

Posted by: Timsta

i dun like th d820 as much. but the 8125/ qte 9100 is cool. and so is the chocolate phone.

Posted by: speedy0156

yeah i like features but i want a phone that's like "holy **** wtf is that its amazing!!!!" looking

Posted by: jsav

The T-Mobile Sidekick II will always turn people's heads, and it's been around for almost 2 years.

Posted by: dr1v3thru

the LG Chocolate.. mmm i want that one.

Posted by: Qwest905

i believe the w900 in white would turn the most heads and be like what the heck is that...as that's a stand out

Posted by: Timsta

lg chocolate is good choice too.. so is w900.

Posted by: speedy0156

i just looked at cnet and it looks like they hate it, i might be willing to get past some of its bad points but the fact that it doesnt have a camera is ridiculous

Posted by: EChid

ya, I agree, these days a camera is kind've assumed in cool phones, and if money is of no concern...then there are waay better options

Posted by: araina

IMO:

Moto A1200 Ming
Nokia N80
Samsung D820

man i love those LG chocoolates

Yea, I've used one of these and its a pretty bad phone to use. Call quality was horrible but it really was an attractive little phone. I'd recommend the Chocolate if your looking to spend around $400 though.

Posted by: Ian Brantford

The original poster asked for a head-turning phone. No requirement for a camera, reliability, or even the ability to power up a display was given. :-)

Hey, someone must have been impersonating you in the VK2020 thread! :-)

http://howardforums.com/showthread....125#post7063125
"as for call quality and everything else..im still playing around with it but im happy so far"

Anyway, for the interest of the others here, that thread has lots of feedback from various people. Some people had hissing/popping sounds on the North American frequencies. Some felt that there must have been a bad batch of them, because many were fine. Most of them ended up liking the phone, despite its drawbacks. It makes the SLVR look like a brick.

I haven't ordered mine yet. I have been too busy to set up my bank account to become a Verified PayPal user -- a requirement that you don't get to see at some sites until the very last page in an on-line purchase transaction. D'oh!

yeah on second thought its not like i really use the camera for anything useful anyway, so ill think about it, i looked on ebay and there was only 1 listing are there any sites or stores selling it?

Posted by: EChid

its not just the camera, I think the keyboard was pretty crappy as well, and for a phone with questionable voicequality...is it worth the risk when there are so many other options?

i'd say no but theres not that many phones that compare to it lookswise

Posted by: EChid

I suppose, but if the rest of the phone is so so, its just a waste of money. May as well buy something that is pretty and works well.

Posted by: tyterydez

Maybe a little pricey and outdated but I've always though the MPX would turn heads (not the 220). But good luck finding one!! I guess the d307 is somewhat similar... as far as design goes. take a look at those two!

Try these places for the VK2020:
http://wapzon.com
http://dynamism.com
http://www.importgsm.com

I too generally keep my purchases to only phones that I am confident will do the job really well. In this case though, like the other satisfied buyers, I am willing to make a trade-off in order to get the VL2020's extremely small size AND weight. The eye-catching factor was a minor consideration. I want something that's extremely pocketable, both in summer shorts and in a suit jacket.

So, what I'm saying is that, in order to get something tiny and light, I'm willing to settle for something that's almost as bad for voice quality as a CDMA phone. <snicker>

Yes, if I had known about the Samsung D307 last year, I would have strongly considered it. I was looking for a high-quality messaging device, with EDGE and Bluetooth for when I tether to my notebook. Now that I'm shopping for a tiny summer phone, I'll wait a few months before checking out high-end voice/data devices -- gotta have my 3G when it's available!

If "head-turnin'" equals "tiny", the only remotely close models to the VK2020 that I know of are the Motorola L2 and the Samsung SGH-P300. The L2 is still bigger and heavier though. The P300 is heavier and ugly, but virtually the same size and technically superior ot the VK2020 in many ways (including camera and screen) -- but it lacks 850MHz. Panasonic used to have their G51u, but it's long gone now. No NA carrier picked it up, so sales were very limited.

Posted by: speedy0156

im actually leaning towards getting the vk2020 now, i looked up all these other phones and i dont really like them that much, i dont care about it not having a camera but the only important question i have is: is the call quality ridiculously or just somewhat bad? im in college and i almost always have full bars and perfect reception anyway, so do you think it'd be ok?

im also thinking about a t809 or a d820 ive heard good things about them but more people are starting to get the 809 so im not sure

Posted by: dazatic

my favorites are...

1. d820
2. w900i
3. n80
4. LG KG800
5. n90

Posted by: berettagtz

man just get a w900 and everyone will be turnin heads. I have one and everyone loves it, plus the swivel design is kinda unique.

It varies. I haven't gotten one yet myself. I strongly recommend that you carefully read this thread first: http://howardforums.com/showthread.php?t=875156 . It also came up a few times in the VK2010 thread: http://howardforums.com/showthread.php?t=859859 . Oddly, most people's problems there were quite different from the reviews in CNET and PCMAG -- speaker is loud and 1900MHz reception is excellent; 850MHz is only fair.

Either way, you would be taking a risk that your purchase will be mediocre as a phone. I can afford to make one bad purchase this way, so I'll take that risk -- because I might end up with a perfectly usable, fantastically pocketable phone.

Lots of their phones are intended only for the Asian market, and many don't even have the 1900 and 850 MHz frequencies used in North America. Be careful!

No, shipping (to North America) is not free. Most people in the VK2020 thread who ordered from Wapzon wanted it fast, and took the FedEx Expedited shipping (must be at least USD$50). I have not checked to see what cheaper international shipping options there are. It seems to be difficult to tell until you place an order.

Posted by: Ian Brantford

FYI, I just found another new, tiny phone, the Pantech C300. It's a tiny clamshell...

http://www.phonescoop.com/articles/...ndex.php?p=pan2

http://www.phonescoop.com/phones/phone.php?p=886

It's cheap too. I wouldn't assume that it will last long , but head-turnin' phones don't have to last. :-)

Ian

Posted by: Lordkifar

Probably people will disagree with me but when I had the SE W800i, people thought it was a camera and very frequently would stop me and ask me what it was...Jaw dropped a bit when I told them it was a phone...

It is different because of the colour scheme.

Posted by: Paulinka0618

Try looking for a phone that they dont have in the us yet like the motorola a1200 or they have a new razr that slides open. A732. I had a sony erricson z520 which you can program to light up when someone is calling. Its hard to explain. In addition to vibrating you can program it to light up. The lights are blue and there are different variations of speed. This is the only phone that does this that I know of. Everyones got a Razr and soon everyone will have a slvr. I know how you feel I want a phone that hardly anyone has.

We have a collection of phones from that era in the back of the store. We couldn't bring ourselves to throw them out. Awesome thing is, they still work perfectly (Oh and we've run them over... do that with your flippin pebl LOL) DIE PLASTIC FROM THE 2k!!!!

Posted by: mckinnie08

I would say the chrome pebl.

Posted by: speedy0156

i was deciding between:

silver a732
vk2020
white d820

the a732 is like an inch thick so thats ridiculous i dont want it anymore, and the white d820 hasn't come out yet and i haven't seen any housings for it, and i really like the vk, so i think i'll go with that

and the chrome pebl is nice but i dont know, ive seen people with black pebl's and i want something original, actually i wanst even thinking about it but its still an option, hmmmmmmmmmmm .......... that or the vk .... ?

speedy, I actually had a VK2020 in my possession a few days ago... for a few hours. I had to send it back, and exchanged it for a Samsung P300 instead. The outgoing volume was just too low for people to hear me well. While the seller and I were discussing whether the replacement should be another 2020, he called me from it, and the volume was low, but not uselessly low as happened to me. I get the impression that there are glitches with various network equipment, and that the 2020 suffers from inadequate field testing on North American equipment. If you really want a VK, I advise that you stick to sellers who allow exchanges or returns.

This is too bad, because the 2020 was much lighter and had rounded corners -- a more pocketable phone than the P300, despite being essentially the same size. I really wish that it had worked better.

Posted by: mckinnie08

I also think you should look into those Lipstick Tube looking Nokia's. The no keyboard thing would really annoy me but it would DEFINATLEY turn heads.

Posted by: waq007

well the 9300 communicator really turns heads, usually its a haha look at that brick followed by a woah, thats sweet....but i still like my siemens sk65..sleek, blackberry and a crosstype keyboard....turns heads like a madman....if u want more insight on the sk65 pm me

yeah im actually thinking about switching because my cingular contract is finishing in a month or two, is it much better than the sidekick 2?

obviously it has to have at least a certain level of functionality

Posted by: infamo

come on guys, it just has to turn heads. who says it had to acually "work" lol. anyways, if you want a phone to turn heads. Here are my opinions: SE P990, SE W950, Nokia P91, or the Nokia E61. The SE ones you'll have to wait for them to come out. The P990 should definetley turn "all" the heads that walk by the person that has that. hell, I'd blow a load if I saw one of thsoe. hahaha.

Probably going to be returning it. Great phone by far! But I have almost no signal in my house or anywhere in my town, the places I am the most I cannot rely on it, so I will probably be returning it. If you have strong signal at your house though, it is a great phone! Unfortunatley, it doesn't have as strong of reception as my razr did, and this is unacceptable to me. And that is odd, because in my town, I usually have at least 3 bars everywhere. With this phone, I was lucky to have that in some places.
