SGH-T809 to SGH-D820 Flash Made Simple! I'm Here To Help!

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Posted by: andrusk

Here's the deal, I took some time out of my day yesterday to heed the crys for help that I have been hearing from so many these last few weeks. I have received many pm's and noticed that a lot of people just don't want to put the effort into figuring this stuff out on their own. So, luckily enough for them, I am here to help.

Now, all you need to flash your SGH-T809 to the SGH-D820 firmware is the flash cable from phantomgsm on ebay, or to make your own. And to download the .iso file I created.
Once you have these two things, you can either mount the .iso file using a program like daemon tools http://daemon.alphabravo.org/daemon403-x86.exe or you can burn it to a cd.

Once the cd is mounted or burned, it will autoplay and a batch file will walk you through the process of flashing your phone. If it does not autorun, just open the disc in my computer and select open "run.bat"

If you guys have any problems, post them here. Also, let me know what you think!

Here is the link for the .iso file
http://rapidshare.de/files/22633006/T809Flash.iso.html

p.s. this is the FC1 firmware, and it will erase you IMEI number.

For me, it only took the cable one week to get all the way from scotland to arizona. Pretty quick I think, considering.

Thanks bro.

I'll be trying this soon

Sweet dude. Let us know how it goes!

Hope that freeway isnt filled with speed cameras like 101, I was lucky that i only got a warning letter few months ago on 101.

He's talking about the 101 in arizona, not the 101 in california.

But yeah, there's no cameras on it yet, I sure hope that chandler doesn't stoop that low.

Posted by: DrKnute

I figured that, which is why I said Hollywood. There are cameras all over Los Angeles.

I was just commenting cause I share his frustration with the cameras.

Thank you sir, trying out now, will report back later tonight.

andrusk,

Thanks for all this help.

This will come in handy for sure when I finally take the time to do this

Why do I have the feeling I've met andrusk in person?

Do you happen to work at a certain telephony company off of Chandler and I-10? Red hair? Work with a lumbering albino? Heh.

And if so, thanks for loaning me the cable. If not, then, well...

There are some things I don't like about the change. Certain things don't act the same (the 'c' button, for example, which no longer works like a 'back' button).

I still need to stick Opera Mini on here.

Posted by: sno

so what's the point of doing this? what benefits are there?

That's me!!! And you're welcome.

btw. The big lumbering albino doesn't feel so happy atm. We call him Big Gruesome at the 'telephony' company.

and to the other guy, pros and con's start here.

i'm prob gonna be getting the t809 here soon from t-mobile to upgrade from my e398.. it's time!

thanks for putting together this sweet faq as well as the flash iso file.

will post back here if/when i upgrade!

what about those of us who dont have serial ports? is there a usb cable that will do it anywhere? or even the one that came with the phone?

No problem dude, I mean really, what else am i gonna do while I'm at work?

and as for people who don't have serial ports. I couldn't guarentee anything but I know they have usb>serial adapters (http://www.compusa.com/products/pro..._Serial_Adapter) that might work if you use the flash cable in conjunction with it, but I now that the usb cable that came with the phone will not work. I haven't tried it, but several people have and they all say it won't work, for various reasons.

hehe... i feel ya...

this is off topic, but since you're a "phone expert" what are your thoughts on t-mobile and their lack of any significantly competitive 'broadband' type solution for their users?

was chatting w/ my brother earlier today and he was telling me how he can now stream sirius music from sprint power vision to his a900 when he's out riding his bike...

i love my 3,000 minutes w/ t-mobile but crikies if they don't have anything cool to offer their users... EDGE is a complete joke from what i've heard.

Posted by: andrusk

The edge is cool for surfing the web with opera mini, but other than that, I agree they are lacking. The one thing I wish that tmobile had like sprint and verizon is streaming video. All these other phones nowadays i.e. the a900 can stream video of fox news and stuff. That would be so sweet!! I would love that!! But no, I have tmobile. Grrrrrr. I guess you win some and you lose some right? But I guess there is one good side to this whole thing.... I don't have to spend as much money on my cell-phone bill every month because of the cool features I'm not getting!!!

Posted by: jessi3k3

Is there a way to flash it back to t809 after you flash it do a D820?

Does the phone have to be unlocked in order to flash?

Posted by: andrusk

Yes, you can flash back. You just need the original 809 firmware files. They are located in the "new on 809 flashing" thread.

And no it doesn't have to be unlocked. That is actually one of the side benefits of flashing your phone, it unlocks it for you

Yes I would like to know this as well for I am thinking of purchasing the t809 or the d820

Posted by: andrusk

Look at post #18 further up on this page and you will find the answer to your question. Read the rest of the pages after that, or just read that whole thread, it will answer all your questions.

Posted by: Rippa_MD

will your iso and batch file work with the usb flash cable from phantom ebay seller.

Posted by: clebree

Is there a way to reconstruct the IMEI number? If not, will it affect my phones functionality to not have the proper number?

Do wireless providers care if your phone doesn't have an IMEI number?

Have you used the unlock method by NSDongle?

Thanks

CB

Posted by: seongenator

Hello,
I'm just curious why you'd want to upgrade T809 firmware to D820 firmware. Does it look better, or what?

And the T809 and the D820 actually look like identical phones... what's different about them?

thanks

Posted by: kidblue

Is there a link to a homemade serial cable for those of us who don't want to wait a week for the cable to come in the mail??

Impatient, I am...

Thanks,

Noah

Posted by: andrusk

The cable that phantom sells on ebay is not a usb cable, it is a serial cable. Any other kind of cable will not work for flashing your phone. You may be able to use the serial cable in conjunction with a usb to serial converter if you don't have a serial connection, but I don't think anyone has tried it, so feel free to experiment.

At this current time there is no way to reconstruct the IMEI number with free software. I believe nsdongle will do it, but that's pricey, so until then we have to wait for someone else to come up with a solution for it. But luckely, not having an IMEI will not affect your phones functionallity at all. The phone companies don't care what your imei number is. I plus 3 people have flashed the phone and we haven't had any problem at all with functionallity.

And for a list of pros and cons, you people must not read very much, or just don't feel like it. Look at post 18, follow the link, and read the next few pages. It is a discussion on what the benefits are of flashing. I don't feel like typing EVERYTHING twice.

There is a homemade serial cable if you choose to make one yourself. http://www.howardforums.com/showthread.php?t=911842 follow that link and brush up on your soldering skills. Otherwise, a week is worth the wait

LOL! Thank you! I was going to hit the "buy it now" option and buy it but thanks to you I got myself to buy his serial cable instead of that USB. I asked the seller if he provided any software and he said no, all he gives you is the USB cable. Your on your own trying to find the drivers on the internet. Good luck buddy.

Posted by: andrusk

It might work if you can get some com port drivers for your usb port, but it's not a method that I have tried. I just know that the serial cable has a proven track record of working, the usb does not. I bet if you emailed the seller and told him your mistake he would gladly sell you the serial cable instead. That's what I would do if I were him, but hey, I'm not, so good luck man!

I hate questions like that. I work for an as yet un-named equipment provider in a support role. As such I have a working knowledge of several different customer networks.

I have also been a customer of a few and found Tmobile to be pretty good as a service provider. They may not have some of the bling of Cingular with their location based services and faster 3G connections, but they are cheap, the network is stable, and if there is a network problem I can get it fixed from the inside out.

I used to use Sprint but I had a ton of problems with shrinking cell coverage as busy hour approached. CDMA is an amazing technology, don't get me wrong, it is very advanced. But GSM is just so much more easy to work with, and it lets me get any phone I want without having to go through the telco.

Also, GSM is world wide and is the defacto 'standard'. The only major CDMA markets outside of North America are in South Korea and a few spots in the asia pacific area. GSM will work on most continents.

TMO is building up their high speed network and I think your going to see the speeds continue to increase as new equipment is added and spectrum grabs come up from the FCC.

It's also important to note that 3GP technology uses components of both GSM and CDMA for UMTS networks. You get the best of both worlds.

And folks, the reason the stock Samsung USB cable cannot possibly be used to flash your phone has to do with the nature of USB.

The flash function of the phone requires a RS232 connection and a flash voltage to be applied. They could make a USB to Serial cable with the flasher built into it, but that is just a converter to serial. The straight USB cable won't work because USB connectivity is negotiated by special control circuits in the phone which are not used in flashing.

Think of it like this, your router connects your local computers and allows you out on the internet but it is working in two domains, the local and WAN. In the same way you can't flash your router over the internet, you can't flash your phone over the normal 'public' connection.

Your phone has the two interfaces as well, RS232 and USB and they are not interchangeable.

USB is a host based system, IE you can't connect one phone to another with USB because it needs a host. That is why you have to use HUBS and can't daisychain like SCSI or Firewire. RS232 is also a peer to peer system that does not require a host. So it allows them to quickly flash the phones with a variety of devices and speeds phone development.

well... you may hate questions like that but i loved your answer! lots of good info within.

Hehe I realized I said 3GP. HEhe I meant 3G/UMTS.

I just got my flash cable today and I started my flash about 5 minutes ago. The bar is moving right along. I'm using a USB to Serial converter and a freshly charged 9v. I just finished backing up all my phone numbers and settings. Hopefully it will go well. It seems to be going a lot faster than 2 1/2 hours though. It's been a few minutes and it's already 1/5 of the way done.

I just powered my phone off, yanked the SIM, plugged it up, started software, hit start and then 'tapped' the power button on my phone. It looks powered off and the response from the program wasn't instant but a few seconds later it reported 1GBNAND and allowed me to select the files to upload and away she goes. I didn't know if I was supposed to check the "don't auto nand format" button so I just left the default settings except to do bin+tfs so it would let me load both files. I'm going with the more stable ac1 version.

By the way, if anybody in the Plano TX area wants to get their 809 flashed I'll do it for beer.

PM me if you need a hookup.

Thanks for the info and clarification on the usb cable.

And you are suppose to check the Don't auto nand format button. If you didn't do that I don't think the flash will work.

I just flashed my friends t809 to d820 using your instructions and everything went without a problem. Thanks for the great guide.

Posted by: syzygylock

I just flashed mine. Everything went smoothly. Only question I have is, why does the phone's network selection only has Cingular/Cingular Extend? And I'm using T-Mobile. Is there something wrong? Thanks

Posted by: andrusk

I'm glad it's working for you guys That makes me happy!

I think perhaps you could be roaming and the only networks available are cingular? Other than that I don't have an explanation.

Posted by: syzygylock

Oh ok. One more question...What region is the firmware that you included in the iso? Thanks

Posted by: vwc

Hmm.. should I ditch the D600 and go with the T809.... I have both phones.. I don't know which to stick with...

Posted by: VWrpm

You should keep your d600 and sell me your t809 really cheap. I kind of regret selling my t809 now that I flashed my friends to d820.

Posted by: andrusk

I've never used the D600, but some have used both and most end up sticking with the D820. I found this in a thread lower on the page.

Both phones have about the same features, reception and build quality- some people have had issues with dust under the screen on D820, but I haven't had that problem. Biggest difference is the form factor- the features of D600 look slightly better on paper, but in real life it's hard to notice......You won't go wrong with either one.
You'll find it a lot more difficlut to find new firmware and flash a Samsung, than a SE, Nokia or Motorola....
Good luck!

PS: I bought my D600 in November 05 and my T809 in April 06

They're both great phones, but the one thing you will get over the D820 is voice recognition.

According to this website http://www.gsmsupport.ru/ru/cgi/cat...id=&dir_id=1693 The firmware I used is the french version. Go figure, stupid french.

So does flashing the phone to a D820 allow voice dialing? Is it speaker-independent? I know this wasn't available in the T809 but if the flash opens this up, then I'm sold.

Posted by: andrusk

No, what I meant was if you go with the D600 the one thing you will get that matters most is the voice recognition support. The T809 and the D820 do not support voice dialing.

Posted by: Kodack

Okay I flashed with the C2 load and I have the same problem. Hangs during opening animation and reboots.

There are Four possibilities here.

1. I am using a Nicad 9v battery which is actually 8.4 volts. Perhaps it is not enough voltage to flash properly. If so why no flash errors?

2. My phone may be a different HW revision from you all. My flash door says T-Flash and I purchased the phone in Feb of this year so it's unlikely it's some weird hardware revision.

3. My flash cable is bad. Again, if it was low battery or bad cable I would expect error messages from the flash program and it to not go to 100% completion without errors.

4. This is what I think the problem is. I think it doesn't like my SIM card. If I boot without a SIM it plays the same power on animation and doesn't hang. With sim inserted it hangs during the animation and reboots.

I have had my SIM for 6 years now (long time TMO user) and it's possible the KPI algo or something about my SIM is too old for the new firmware. My SIM worked fine on the old firmware and works fine in my other mobiles so it's not a defective sim, but it might be incompatible.

I'm going to try someone elses SIM in the phone to see how it works. If it boots and works then I'll call TMO and get a replacement SIM sent out. If it hangs with other peoples SIMS as well then I need to flash it back to T809 firmware and for that I need to find someone with the firmware. Can anybody help me out?

Posted by: andrusk

I just read your post and I noticed you have an older model of the T809, the newer ones say 'microsd' on the memory card door instead of T-Flash. So it could be something with the hardware revision, but I still imagine it's not likely. Here is a copy of the T809 firmware that's just a bin file. I'm not sure if it would work or not, but you're already to the stage were you might as well try it anyway http://rapidshare.de/files/17870941/T809_Full.rar.html

Yeah I have the bin file but what doe I do with it? It seems bogus because the file size is only 6MB and the flash should be a lot larger than that. Also the flash programs use .tfs and cls files along with various .cfg files. A solitary bin is unuseable.

Posted by: andrusk

You must have the wrong file then, re-download that one I posted and try it. When you un-rar it it's about 33 megs. I haven't tried it myself, but it probably wouldn't hurt, what else are you gonna do? I believe there is a bin only flash option for the phone.

Posted by: vwc

Call me stupid but I never used the voice dialing before. =X

Posted by: syzygylock

Thanks Andrusk, for the region info. I'm fully aware of the IMEI problem, and saw several software on gsmhosting.com forum. I tried all of them, but always run into this error:

Fail : Compare ResetVerify [Sound Contents Size, Count Input:Rd = 108606 10: 258118 20] ! - Thread1

Anyone has any experience with this? Thanks.

I agree. I've had a few phones with this feature and never had one that worked well enough to use it often. By the time I repeat myself I could have speed dialed or just searched the number. It's not really a priority for me.

Yeah it unexpands to 33MB but there is no way in hell that a real firmware would be that compressable. If it compresses that much then it means there is a ton of repeatable and patterned information (likea bunch of zeros) and regardless of whether it flashed the firmware, the file system wouldn't be flashed and it still wouldn't work.

It's not a legitimate file.

I'm going to try a friends SIM in my phone as they just got a new SIM and I bet it works.

You are aware that .bin files are just zeros and ones right? 0's and 1's are HIGHLY compressable, but whatever, since you're obviously not open to suggestions for fixing your brick, I'll stop giving 'em. It seems no once else here cares that your phone doesn't work, so I'll stop caring too. Good luck.

That's good to know. I hadn't heard of any problems with people using the first releases, but it's good to have it confirmed.

Most people I know that had the version that said tflash had to trade theirs in because of the dust issue. Supposedly they fixed the issue when they released the newer version that says microsd. I haven't had any dust problems (I have the microsd version), and I keep my phone in my pocket 98% of the time, so I guess they did probably fix it. Anyway, I'm rambling. Time to get some food.

Posted by: Kodack

1.) If your thinking about flashing, ask yourself how old your SIM card is and read below.
2.) It's confirmed the flash will remove the SIM lock and allow the phone to work with any provider.

Regarding the problems I have had flashing the phone, and my $300 paperweight......

As I suspected the problem was with the SIM and not the phone.

I inserted a friends T-Mobile SIM and the opening animation got un-synchronized, IE soudn played while animation appeared to freeze, then it caught up and the phone booted. New menu's everything looked and worked perfectly.

So the new firmware doesn't like my SIM for some reason, which is funny because same phone, same hardware, 809 firmware it worked great.

My SIM card was 6 years old. In fact it was so old it said "Voicestream" for those who remember that.

I also tried inserting a friends Cingular SIM and it worked fine as well and let me make calls. Which means that the AC2 firmware definately removes SIM lock from the mobile.

So if you are thinking about flashing your T809 you might want to check how old your SIM is before going down that route. I could see other people having this problem.

I called TMO customer service and requested a new SIM. It cost me $20 and should be here next week by UPS ground.

After reading through about 90% of the 26page thread, I'm ready to take the plunge.

I ordered this cable tonight and as soon as it gets here, I'll be trying the ISO.

http://www.unlockitnow.com/remote/u...T809_unlock.php

I read a couple of complaints about the phantomgsm cable not being made well, etc. Does anyone know if this one will work?

Thanks for All The HARD WORK so far, guys. I'm excited to finally fix my phone that's seemed crippled since I got it.

Posted by: andrusk

The only problem I have with it is that the connector sheeth is a bit big and kind of get's in the way of the usb connector door, from my experience with the phantom gsm cable it seems like it was put together pretty well. But I can't speak for others on the matter, I just know I was satisfied with it. I'm pretty sure that cable will work, if it hooks up to the com port then it's the right kind of cable. Good luck with flashing your phone dude!!! You're gonna love all the new features!!

It has been brought to my attention that the link in my first post to daemon tools is dead. Here is the new link to the tool. Download the 32 bit version, , they now have a 64 bit version if you need that too. http://daemon.alphabravo.org/

I noticed that but it plugged in enough not to be a problem. you can use some wire cutters, strong scissors, or a dremel to cut a 45degree angle to keep the little connector flap from getting in the way. Like I said though, no probs getting a connection even if it wasn't in all the way.

To all T809 owners, is it hard to slide the phone up and down? My t809 is really hard to slide up and down, I have to use force to do so. My D600 just flicks up n down like without even trying. Should I spray some WD40 on the sliding parts of the phone or bring it to a tmobile store?? Thanks

Posted by: andrusk

smooth as silk here dude, left handed sliding all the way. You could have a bunch of dust or something clogging up the works. If you haven't flashed it yet you could probably get tmo to replace it.

NO no!!! Dame!

WD40 is a bolt breaker. It's a corrosive that's meant to seap into rusted bolts and such and help break them free. It's not a lubricant it's a corrosive.

You will screw your phone up like that. If you must lubricate it I would recommend silicon oil or graphite.

The mechanism will wear as you use it and it will get easier to slide.

And to the other question, if you had to replace your SIM it would be from whomever is providing you service. So if you used Cingular you would request the SIM from them, not TMO.

The good news is that if you flash a TMO T809 you can put a Cingular SIM in and it will work. I've confirmed this personally.

Posted by: vwc

I called Tmobile and they can't do anything about it. Due to the fact that I traded my beatup sidekick2 for this t809, the t809 was in the holster and it sat in a car for about a month never touched, the owner said it was probably the heat that messed it up. Is there anyway I can fix this?!? =(

Posted by: Shayla R Cakes

So.....I've read all these flashing threads about five hundred times, and the only negative I can come up with is that I won't be able to use AIM anymore, which saddens me...however I do have AIM mobile set up on my PC's AIM program so it sends me texts.

But I don't know if I've bypassed such an answer or what, but if I were to flash my phone to be a d820, and I decide I don't like that, is there any way to undo what I've done and go back to the t809???

Posted by: VWrpm

I thought the WD in WD40 stood for water displacement formula 40. I could be wrong but this is what I've heard.

Posted by: pelf

Is anyone here in the bay area that could help me do this? Will buy you lunch or something.

Posted by: andrusk

This was taken directly from www.wd40.com

WD-40 fulfills five basic functions:

1. CLEANS: WD-40 gets under dirt, grime and grease to clean. It also dissolves adhesives, allowing easy removal of labels, tape and excess bonding material.
2. DISPLACES MOISTURE: Because WD-40 displaces moisture, it quickly dries out electrical systems to eliminate moisture-induced short circuits.
3. PENETRATES: WD-40 loosens rust-to-metal bonds and frees stuck, frozen or rusted metal parts.
4. LUBRICATES: WD-40's lubricating ingredients are widely dispersed and tenaciously held to all moving parts.
5. PROTECTS: WD-40 protects metal surfaces with corrosion-resistant ingredients to shield against moisture and other corrosive elements.

So I don't know what wd-40 you've been using kodack, but it seems like the one listed on this site http://www.wd40.com/Brands/wd40_faqs.html is actually an anti-corrosive..........

[/sarcasm]

Maybe he is confusing WD40 with Liquid Wrench.

Posted by: Kodack

3. PENETRATES: WD-40 loosens rust-to-metal bonds and frees stuck, frozen or rusted metal parts.

WD40 penetrates by being corrosive. It penetrates into metal to free up rusted bolts.

Please realize that the fact that it lubricates is secondary to it's penetration. It has more in common with liquid wrench than as a lubricant.

WD40 will corrode many types of plastic, ruining the finish, it will also cause problems to with the materials inside the phone.

WD40's website lists a lot of things it can be used for but most lubricants used in hi tech devices don't also double as rust breaking liquid wrenches.

Trust me here, silicon oil or graphite would work best but if you want to use WD then be my guest.

I finally recieved my flash cable today. I am still unsure wether to flash my t809 yet because I am unsure which version to go with, FC1 or FC2. No one posts any comparisons or the link to FC2. All I can do now is search.

I got my new sim today and TMO didn't charge me for it. The phone works fine so far so that's it. I have a working D820/809. Woot!

I just got my cable in from phantomgsm and I can't get things to work for me. What mode do I set the phone in, mass storage or modem? My ps2 style connector on my cable is very loose and I am not sure if this is the problem. I have been thinking of hard wiring it. Has anyone else had a probelm?

Make sure to check "don't auto nand format.

Your flashing with serial so it doesn't matter what the phone's USB is set to.

Make sure your 9v is strong, make sure your serial port works and is correctly selected, Turn off your phone and remove sim. Plug in cable and hit detect, tap phones power button (don't hold) and a blue bar will shoot across screen. Select the bin+tfs part and select the files then hit download. Nothing to it.

Posted by: masalajatt

everything worked prefect although it took a long time to flash but the final product is a dream come true aah man i love my phone now no problems ordered the cable from ebay and got her in 3 days from scotland to ny quick and flash it the same day :P kicking it hats off to the people who made t809 to d820 flash possible ..........

I have done this but after I press the power button the download button never becomes active. No blue status bar either. My 9v battery is new. I am going to try to hard wire the ps2 connector.

i've tried to flash my phone and it downloads the bin, but when it is downloading the tfs it hangs at about 60% and stops. I have used both FC1 and FC2 and have switched the batteries. Any suggestions??

i uploaded it here: http://rapidshare.de/files/25221851/D820XAFC2.rar.html

i have now also tried to flash with XEFB4 but with the same problem using both oneNAND 17 and 18 lite. can anyone help out?

After flashing my T809 to the D820 and getting it all set up my sent text messages will not store in the "Sent Messages" folder.
MMS messages will default there, but texts wont.
I cannot for the life of me figure this one out. Anyone else having this problem?

Its not a huge deal. But sometimes I like to re-read conversations.

Thx.

with this flash upgrade and it erasing the IMEI number, what happens? Does it get restored? Just curious about consequences... Thanks!

Posted by: vwc

Yes the IMEI number will be 0000000000000 all across, It does get restored if you flash it back, also the IMEI number is on the back of the phone, so you have nothing to worry about

Posted by: hobbang819

i got my phone to flash finally, but unlike the directions given i had to uncheck "dont auto nand flash" for the tfs to flash. and FC2 is working fine for me, no bugs or unstableness

Posted by: pelf

I just finished reflashing mine with the method provided in the first post. My phone also says :Cingular at the bottom instead of Tmobile.

Will Report on other changes after playing around with it a bit.

Posted by: pelf

Language is also using british english (colour, favourite etc) is there a way to change that?

When I try to manually pick a network, there are only 2 options, both for cingular.

Also its stuck in date format as DD/MM/YEAR instead of MM/DD/YEAR

Cant figure out a way around that either.

Posted by: pelf

Okay, I also talked to my friend at Tmobile who hooked me up like woah for this phone and this is what he said about the language and cingular issues:

SOURCE: Yeah beacuse d500 firmware is from overseas and it removes the software letting the phone know that certain old cingular towers are tmobile towers.

Just a FYI.

just finish flashing my phone to the D820 and it work Great!!! but one thing i found out that bother me is that when you use the T9 on the SMS, i am unable to choose the different words that uses the same key punch in.

Example:

Good (4663)
Home (4663)

On the t809, i was able to choose the word by pushing down the down button, but on the d820 it auto to "Good" and is unable to scroll down to other words. is there anyway to fix that or a way around that? thank you for the help.

Posted by: Yellowballs

Ok, i just found the answer to my question...

you use "0" on the keypad.

OK I've been waiting to take the plunge on this, but I ordered my cable from PhantomGSM on June 11 and it is July17 and I still have not received it. Emails to the seller have mostly been non-replied but one- which promised to look into it and get me a tracking number the next day (last week) and then nothing. I've opened up an Ebay dispute - I mean really, should it have gotten here by now - they're overseas in the UK and I'm here in Cali, US? It's really annoying because I'd like to start using my T809 more (or at least unlock it so I can give it to my dad on Cingular). Is there another reliable place rather than PhantomGSM on Ebay to get this cable?

That sucks. It took mine 2 weeks for it to get it from that same dealer. Must have been bad for you.

Posted by: rEVOLVE

I can understand if there are issues w/ the order/delivery process. There can be glitches now and then with any business. What really irks me is that I have been trying to get in touch with this company for resolution and the lack of communication and followup shows a lack of professionalism to me.

I have tried at least 4 times to get to them and only got one response, and then none after that. To me a reliable company shows its professionalism in how they deal with these kinds of issues.

i got my cable and tried to flash my phone using the iso here. but after i ran the onenand downloader with a fresh 9v and a fully charged phone, it told me to power phone on. so i did, and nothing happened. i followed the tutorial fully....is it a bad cable?

Posted by: hobbang819

revolve, did you try and contact them through ebay message or their email address, they sent me the a cable in 1 week (albeit the wrong one). i tried contacting them through ebay and got no response, i emailed them at sales@phantomgsm.com and got a same day response and the correct cable also came in 1 week.

got my cable in the mail, and flashed the phone last night. Great!

Only question now is that I used to have addresses hotkeyed to certain buttons on the phone, but I can't figure out how to do that now. Any ideas?

is there an windows xp fix or something because the computer does not recognize my phone.

Posted by: jonneepuh

somebody please help. i tried again to flash my phone with the iso and a fully charged 9v and fully charged phone. the program hangs at the part where im supposed to turn my phone on. it just says "power on phone". when i do that it just sits there. is it supposed to sit there for a long time before asking me to download the bin and tfs? also my phone just says "insert sim".

Posted by: franklinromeo

hey man can u give me the exact steps u did n i mite be able to help also. give me the link u got the serial cable from so i can see if its correct

Posted by: jonneepuh

i got it from phantomgsm.

1. plug serial cable into com port. (only have one)
2. remove sim
3. put 9V battery on.
4. plug cable into phone.
5. start onenand 1.8
6. check the "do not ..."
7. com port set to com1 and 115200
8. set to load bin and tfs.
9. hit start.
10. program tells me to turn on phone, so i tap the power button.
11. program hangs!

thats my steps, 9v is fully charged, so is the phone.
how long is it supposed to be before the onenand program tells me to click the download button to transfer the bin and tfs?

Posted by: breadboy16

So I followed the instructions, but ran into a few problems. After flashing my phone, my java apps still have security issues causing me not to use them, the block menu style doesn't displays the icons properly and the flash menu style isn't mapped properly to the features. It's almost like it was a partial flash cause all my Tmobile settings remained, along with all the tmobile wallpapers. Any ideas?? Thanks in advance for any help.

I had the same problem with my phone. I ended up using oneNand v1.4. This was not a light version. I used the bin/tfs in the iso from this thread.

Has any1 here succesfully flashed their phone to the most current firmware for the D820. and if u have may u please share with the rest of us exactly wut u did

Posted by: hobbang819

1. Plug in flashing cable and battery if using serial cable
2. Open onenandflash and select bin + tfs and select corresponding files
3. Select proper com port
4. I personally had to leave "dont autonand flash" unchecked, but it seems everyone else has checked it
5. Connect cable to phone
6. Press start
7. When it tells you to turn the phone on, tap the power button, may require a few taps, but dont press and hold
8. Press "download" after the status bar reaches 100%

Only reason that I left dont autonand flash unchecked was because it would stop flashing the tfs and freeze if i disabled autonand flashing. If you unselect autonand flash and brick your phone, dont blame me.

I have successfully flashed mine.. and have a couple questions..

1. Is there still no way to change the SMS sounds.. my god those are horrible

2. Notepad? is there no notepad? if not.. anyone know of a Java one I can load on the phone?

I just flashed my phone today, its soooo much better. It adds ring and vibe at the same time, which I didn't know, and some other nifty features. It was worth the investment in the data cable to do this. Now I don't mind using my T809 (secretly a D820) at work. I work at T-Mobile so I have to be careful about pulling out my W810i.

Once the cd is mounted or burned, it will autoplay and a batch file will walk you through the process of flashing your phone. If it does not autorun, just open the disc in my computer and select open "run.bat"

I'm thinking about ordering a cable right away to do this, but I have a (stupid?) question... why do you need to burn the program to a CD? why can't you just keep all the files together in a folder on your hard-drive and launch it that way? will it not work unless you burn all those files to CD? any help greatly appreciated. and this totally voids the warranty I gather, right?

You don't have to burn it to a cd if you don't want. You can do what I and many other people did, which is to download the program, the flash files and figure out the settings on your own and do it from your hard drive.

The purpose behind putting together a cd that autolaunches with the batch file containing instructions is that it takes away all the confusion for some people that don't know what program to use (or where to get it), or what settings to use, or what firmware to use (and where to get it). It was merely for convenience(and placed everything you need in one location). Also, if you want you can mount the file instead of burning a disc. Hope that answers your question

and yes, your warranty will evaporate quicker than a puddle of whatever in phoenix.

andrusk,

I've successfully flashed my phone from 809 to 820 with your handy little iso and batch file. I didnt have any problems at all. Just wanted to say thanks. The prompts when the batch was launched were easy to follow even for a noob like me.

I used alcohol to mount the image and that was it.

4. mp3 ringtones

If one were to do the burn to CD method, you just copy all fhe files found in the ZIP archive and burn them to a blank CD-R, and when you pop the disc into your drive it will auto-run? and what about D820XAFC2 files that I've found posted elsewhere? are those newer/better than D820XAFC1 provided on page 1 of this discussion? and how would you I "mount" them if I don't have Alcohol or similar program? And the required settings information is all contained on one of the files inside the ZIP archive I think i saw? mad question, so sorry, but you guys are great and have been a hure help! I really appreciate this! I wish I could tell my customers about all this but then my job would dissppear just as fast as my warranty!

The FC2 firmware is a newer version, but im not really sure what differences there are between the two. to mount the iso, download daemon tools. The only setting required is to know which com port to use.

here is a picture of the instructions from the cd

oh and I was wondering is there a huge difference between fc1 and fc2.

I have fc1 and was wondering if it was worth the 2 hours to re-flash it to fc2.
Also, can someone post fc2...thanks!

Ok, so I know this might be a stupid question, but what is the T809 compatable with. I think people we're talking about the d820, but can you flash it with anything other then that??
Also, where can i get software to flash it with. I keep looking (yeah I searched) and I can't find where to get it. Thank you
(sorry if this is a stupid question)

the t809 can only be flashed with d820 firmware, for the software download the iso from http://howardforums.com/showthread.php?t=930643 and the software will in it (OneNand Downloader).

The way it works is this. An ISO is not a zip archive, it is a image of a cd on a computer. What that means is that if you have an image of half life or the real half life disc in your drive, your computer will see it as the same thing. ISO's are convenient becuase it's take all the effort out of making a cd. When I created the ISO I put all the files you need on the disc, then I created the image of that disc on my hard drive. Once you have that image, all you have to do is either burn it to a disc using something like nero, or alcohol or mount it. Mounting is a process that fakes the computer out. Programs like Daemon or alcohol create a virtual cd drive on your system, then when you mount an ISO image on that virtual drive the computer doesn't know any different than if it's a regular cd. When you mount or burn the disc it should autorun on your computer, but some computers may have autorun turned off. So in that case all you have to do is double click on the cd in my computer and it will run the batch file. If you don't feel like you need the batch file you can just open the cd in my computer and start one nand downloader by yourself and if you know all the settings. If you want you can use the newer firmwares, just download them to your hard drive and when it comes time to choose the tfs and cla files choose the new ones that you downloaded. I hope this info helps, anymore questions let me know.

I have no idea, I don't think anybody does.

I imagine the only differences would be maybe different Language options for T9 text entry and maybe some minor bug fixes.

Battery was fully charged, brand new energizer, etc. Any insight would help! Thanks.

Will flashing erase all of my data saved on the phone?

Also, if anyone lives in the NY metro area and would like to do this for me I would gladly pay you. I DO NOT trust mail in flash programs.

Where is the error message coming from? Your phone or the flashing software tool?

No, it shouldn't erase your data (text messages, pictures, etc). However, it will reset all of your settings (picture resolution, message tone settings, etc).

Ok, probably stupidest question in the forum, but I'v sorta been wondering. Do you have to use the flash cord from phantomgsm on ebay, or can you just use the usb pc cord that came with the phone. The one that came with it has no 9v battery thing, but when i plug it into my computer, the phone charges. Thanks

Posted by: hobbang819

only the serial flash cable with battery attachment or usb flash cable, which is different than the usb data cable

Posted by: Nwahs

o dang that sucks, well i guess i wont be flashing mine anytime soon. Thanks for the help

Posted by: cymrujmcox

Where is the error message coming from? Your phone or the flashing software tool?

It comes in the flashing software tool, when the flash has finished. The phone works (with the cool D820 features), but the main screen does not seem to have changed from the t809 screen, so that, in the block menu you can be on the browser spot, but it still shows the IM icon, and the graphic is skewed. In the flash menu, again the icons are t809 and don't correspond to the D820 app.'s, but the icons themselves look fine. Those are the only problems I can see so far.

I had the same thing happen to me. I think I might have pulled the plug prematurely on the flashing and only partially flashed the phone. Alll my Tmobile settings remained and the graphics were all jacked on the regular menu, but worked on the flash menu. Reflashing fixed the problem.

Sounds like you interupted the flashing process. Try reflashing with a full phone battery and new 9v battery.

I'm really glad to hear I'm not the only one. I'm going to reflash again and see how it works and I'll make sure to have the phone full and a new battery. I've been assuming I don't have the right program to read the files (I had to download something just to read the ISO file. I'll let you know how it works out...Thanks again.

Hey all,

Everything still working great after the flash except for one thing - I used to could send emails from my phone.

I know that it was configured to use Tmob's outgoing mail server.

Anyone mind sharing that info with me?

btw - figured out the speed dial settings that i'd mentionedin an earlier post. It was under address book optiosn on the main menu.

Thanks!

Okay, just reflashed - new battery, fully charged phone, even propped the cable connector to make sure it was a good connection to the phone. It flashed a lot quicker than the last two times, but essentially no change. This time when it is supposed to have finished, it says failure to open the .cfg file, rather than the .cla or .tfs. The phone itself has the same problems - main menu still t809, graphics off kilter in block menu and when going to t-zones. Any ideas anyone? Again, I'm total newbie, so I may not have thought of even the most basic stuff.

When you flash it, make sure you select the BIN+TFS button each time (whether it is selected or not). Also browse the files and select them each time. I have had problems where if I just left the defaults I would get errors (when using 1.8 Lite). Also, make sure all your files are there in the same directory, the .tfs, .cfg, .def and .cla files ... I did it all from a folder in My Documents.

Also, I switched computers because one was having a problem, have had good luck with Duracell batteries, and had the best luck with the 1.7 downloader (not the Lite version).

Okay, sweet! 3rd time's the charm. I'd still be failing on this next week, but my wife pointed out a fully charged battery means charging it overnight, not just till the icon shows full. So I charged the phone overnight, put in a new battery and no problems, everything's good!! You guys were telling me, and I was just hurrying through it. Awesome, the D820 really is so much better-just too much cool that's already been listed. Thanks everyone for the input and Andrusk for the easy do-it-yourself compilation. Almost no way someone could screw that up (though I tried), but it's good to get the quick feedback from pepople on problems I had. Anyone in or around Tulsa, OK let me know if you wanna try this, I'll set you up, it is that easy and oh so worth it! I gotta play with my phone now...

can someone who flashed their t809 to a d820 tell me if it fixed that horrible static bluetooth problem???

if that worked im definitely flashing mine.

Posted by: jwadle

I have a D820 and the bluetooth static problem is just as bad as in the T809.

Posted by: rEVOLVE

I'm using the T809 flashed to D820 w/ a Plantronics 640 headset. Static is not as bad when both the earpiece & phone are at full charge & it gets worse as either gets discharged. If I'm using the headset I get a little staticy sound upon first connection at the call start, but then it goes away during the actual call (as long as I'm not putting the phone in my pants pocket opposite the side of my body that the earpiece is on, it does seem to have bad range where my Nokia doesn't have this problem w/ the headset). One irritating thing is the headset also seems to disconnect for no reason at random times (when not on a call) - it only does this with my Samsung and not my Nokia. Sucks because I'm used to using my earpiece a lot

Besides that annoying problem I really wish you could change the menu order or replace items in the menu like you can w/ other phones. Also I hate that you can only set the ringtone and can't set the other sounds (like message, etc.) to your own custom.
Any fixes for these issues?

Posted by: cymrujmcox

I'm using a cardo scala 500 and a plantronics M2500 and neither gets too bad static - as long as the phone is not moving and I'm within about 10ft. There is always some static upon beginning a call and anytime the phone moves, it causes some. The cardo is definitely better than the plantronics on this. Flashing stopped my phone from randomly dropping the BT. The phone asks me as soon as its in range of my BT if I want to connect, which is nice. Using it while driving has been fine too.
I've heard from a few folks (cell sales people, maybe with their own reasons for saying so), that samsung matches best with its own BT sets, so my next try is going to be the WEP200, to test this, though I'm not unhappy with the cardo. As you can see, I'm not using the high end BT's, so couldn't tell you about some better models.
My only complaint is after the flash, when I'm receiving a call, if I answer using the phone's button, it doesn't go through to the BT, though this may be my error-just flashed this weekend. Answering by hitting the BT may fix this, haven't had a chance to chance to try this yet.

Please !!!!! Anybody tell me how to set com port for flash T809-D820

I just got usb flash cable from ebay.but I can't flash my T809.

I ask the seller and he said it faster than serial & don't need 9V. batt

Posted by: m1rk

Just a few questions if you don't mind .
First of all what are the benefits of switching from t809 to d820?
and Secondly if something goes wrong will i be able to restore to factory settings?
Thanks in advance

-m1rk

Posted by: rEVOLVE

I've found after using it awhile w/ my Plantronics 640 that it is NOT randomly disconnecting. It is just when the batteries are low and I put the phone in my pocket, it has trouble seeing the signal from the headset so it disconnects itself.

It didn't fix it for mine, but that's because my T809 before and after flashing did not suffer from any horrible static using Bluetooth. That could be because I am using a car kit whose specs are better suited for the phone, I don't know. But it works fine.

Unfortunately it does not transfer the phone book to this particular kit, but that's a separate issue.

You need to get the drivers for that cable. If you don't have the com port emulation drivers for the usb cable it will not work.

I don't know where to get the drivers but I know you need them. One of the websites out there that sells the usb flash cable has the drivers on it as well. If you search this thread or the bigger thread you might find the right website. That's a lotta searchin though!! good luck

So I read through all these posts and decided to flash my phone. Got the cable and went to flash it with the .iso on the first post. Got the phone plugged in and pressed the power button when instructed and then a blue bar shot across the screen. And I proceeded to press the download button when the progress bar went about 5% and then sat there and I let it sit for a solid 2.5 hours after which I determined that it froze or something. So I pressed stop and then unplugged it. Now my phone wont do anything at all I left it plugged into the charger all night and it wont light up or do anything at all. Any ideas or help would be appreciated. Thanks

Ok I know I'm a definite noob here but this subject is fairly enticing to me.

What are the advantages to reflashing the phone? Are more features included in the D820 version?

I'm guessing this cable being mentioned is NOT the included USB cable that comes with the phone.

If someone could enlighten me a bit on this subject, I'd be pleased as punch. I just bought this phone and its features seem a bit limited.

kwik18t: "And I proceeded to press the download button when the progress bar went about 5% and then sat there and I let it sit for a solid 2.5 hours after which I determined that it froze or something."

Charge the phone overnight with it off. Use a brand new battery. Do the process over. Do everything according to the directions listed on this and the other flash thread. It took me three times to get it, the only problem being I had not totally charged the phone battery. Good luck! It'll be worth the pain.

You're right, the flash cable that is talked about here is the Serial Port Flash cable that is sold on ebay and other various sites. There is a USB flash cable, but it is not the one that comes with the phone, and it requires special serial port emulation drivers to work properly.

Posted by: kwik18t

I finally got it to flash after charging overnight and getting a new 9v battery. Only issue is that now the bluetooth just sits at "activating bluetooth" if you slide the phone closed it will go away but then if you go to back to bluetooth settings it says that it is off so you go to activate and it says already activated. Any ideas?
Thanks for the help by the way!

Posted by: andrusk

That's interesting. I haven't experienced any issues with my bluetooth. When I activate it it just takes like half a second when it says activating bluetooth, then it says bluetooth activated. Try rebooting your phone. It doesn't sound normal though whatever it is.

Hey Everyone....

I just flashed my T809 to D820 with the FC2 firmware...everything was perfect, but now my calls drop constantly and it's fustrating me to no end! Has anyone else had this problem and know of a way to improve this? FC3 firmware perhaps?

Also, lookie what I came across...I'll give it a shot this weekend, but if someone else wants to try it before me

D820XEFG3 Firmware! 44.98 MB
http://firmware.javer.sgh.ru/?frm=D820XEFG3&t=4

Posted by: andrusk

to be honest with you I haven't had any reason to flash to anything other than the FC1 firmware. I haven't experienced any bugs or dropped calls or random reboots, so unless a flash to a newer firmware will fix the IMEI I will probably stick with the FC1. But yeah, if you are having a problem with the FC2 it can't hurt to try FG3 or even go down to the FC1. After-all, we don't even know what the "real" differences are between the firmwares, we just know one is newer than the other.

Posted by: ggraff

Howdy,

So I sucessfully flashed my T809 to D820 - thanks team!
I'm wondering if I can take advantage of the internet access on my phone (currently setup with the T-mobile $4.99 internet access) with my computer.

I've got a Mac, running OS X and I wondering if I can access the internet using the phone via a USB or bluetooth connection.

Thoughts?
Thanks, GG

try turning quadband off.

put it to 850/1900. no reason to have quadband on unless your outside the US.

helps reception.

I just flashed mine. didn't know the D820 didnt have yahoo messager pre installed. that blows. otherwise awesome.

So I got Google Maps and Opera Mini running. Any other stand-out mobile apps you folks would recommend now that I'm running D820 firmware?

Andrusk, thanks a lot. I got my cable last night, and flashed my phone using your ISO image this morning (it took 2:21h). Everything OK

Posted by: DaveHavok

I'm thinking we could probably hack a firmware and patch in the US Messenger Programs into the d820 firmware

Posted by: Predz

Warranty-wise...is it same to assume that doing this would void it? (For a US T809)...from my understanding, the IMEI is erased, which technically should not matter in the US from a functioning standpoint, but is the imei used during repairs/replacements? Also, I assume samsung (or tmobile) won't take back the phone, if we flash it? Thanks...

im sure it can be done and just added to like the application menu. Take the programs from the T809 and implement them to the D820 and just add the extra lines to the menu.

But I'm not a heavy programmer or cracker so I wouldn't have a clue where to start on it.

But if someone could do that I'm sure they could customize the firmware for anything.

Any samsung developers out there? lol

I've got a new question: I got the WEP 200 bluetooth. It works great on my wife's RAZR, but is horrible on my t809->d820, worse than my other two, cheaper models. Samsung suggested I find out from Tmob if I've got the latest BT firmware, which isn't really an option anymore. Does anyone know if any of the newer d820 firmwares have better bt than the FC1?

I'm looking for a music player that will play Ogg Vorbis files - anybody?

I was also using a neat app that would constantly update and give me weather stats on my N90. But since this isn't a smartphone I would expect something like that would need to run in the background. I've set up shortcuts in opera mini to go to directly to weather sites, but it still requires a few clicks to get to those pages.

I really wish one was able to set up custom shortcuts on the main menu ala Moto phones - I can't even reorder the items in the main menu and that blows.

I just finished flashing my phone to D820. Everything works fine, the way it suppose to. But I notice that the volume in video player is lower comparing to T809 (both on the highest setting) Is there a way to make it louder?

#1
I flashed the T809 with the 1 flash in the ISO at start of this thread. All my phone #'s are now missing the - so instead of 777-777-7777 it is 7777777777.
Not real serious but I am not recognising the Numbers for work and that ...bugs me. Any way to modify the format in the phone book?
#2
I copied all teh phone numbers over to the phone and wanted to delete them....when I try the phone comes up and says pin I have no pin. I tried a few Obvious ones but I guess I didn't guess right. Any ideas on what that got changed to?
#3
Just saw a much newer flash and am considering using that any pros or cons to that?
#4
I too am struggling with the poor BT I drive all day and really need that working properly. (I have Jabra's BT250 and BT500) both are poor but the 500 was just about unuseable. The 250 is not BAD just not where I really need it to be.
#6
Will be installing aps just didnt want to untill I have a handle on these issues. Any aps (Links) that you all would reccommend?

Thanks for your time Tis Much appreciated.

Does anyone have this problem? i flashed it to the D820 firmware and it went off without a hitch. I found that the battery life of the phone is extremely weak now. After I charged the battery, I made a call to my voicemail, and after hanging up on the 30 second call, I already lost one bar on the meter. I switched batteries and the same thing still happened. Anyone have any ideas as to what i did wrong?

I have and asus A8N-SLI Premium I don't have a serial port on my back panel so I'm looking at getting the serial cable and using a serial to usb adapter. Here's where I'm confused based on a previous post, the one where everyone thanked the guy I think his name is Kodak something, based on that is he confirming that you can not connect the phone in any way to the computer via USB for flashing? Or will the adapter still work? Secondly if it's the former are there pci cards that have serial ports on them that I can buy, Install and use the same way as a serial port that came on the motherboard? I've been dying to run opera and get an email client on this thing since it came out so thanks in advance.

Thanks,

Maybe you've been overcharging your battery. I know that when you get a new phone you should let the phone die out and charge fully atleast 3 times before charging mid-charge. Other than that, the only thing I can think is that maybe the d820 firmware reads battery usage differently. Good Luck Man.

Yea but you can always flash it back to t809 when this becomces an issue, and as far as the IMEI # just write it down before you flash and when you call customer Support and they give you the code to put in and ask for it just read back the old one. When they get it back and ask about the change IMEI, you're not a cell phone expert so how should you know.

Hearing that does indeed actually make me consider flashing this myself...but I don't have the original t809 firmware, and haven't seen it anywhere in this thread...if that became readily available, I'd definitely do it

Use the sghd (http://sghfd.atcg.info/) to create a backup, the software is in english. I use it to create a full backup of my T809 firmware and TFS, then i 'upgraded' to D820 firmware (D820XEFF1).

I found several different firmware packages. And I'm ready to flash my T809 got from TMobile. But before doing that, I'm thinking to make a full firmware backup of my phone.

Is SGH Flasher/Dumper the only software, which appears to be the only freeware utility that allows you to back up your .tfs including the .cfg? I wonder is there any better options available?

The firmware packages I have right now: (*I didn't test any of those packages yet, so plz do it with your own risk)

D820DXFC2 (password: anycallbbs.com)

D820DXFC3 (password: anycallbbs.com)

D820DXFE1 (password: anycallbbs.com) (Heard: Best verision for people who doesn't want chinese language)

D820XEFB4

D828/D820/T809 basically is the same phone with differents firmwares.

Chinese Yi Dong mobile company special versions:
D828ZMFC5 (password: anycallbbs.com)

D828ZMFD1 (updated verision of FC5, which fixed black screen when battery is low) (password: anycallbbs.com)

D828EZMFE2 (Newest Version) (password: anycallbbs.com)

Are there any people who has Flashing cable, located near Baltimore, MD? So that I can borrow cable from to test flashing? Thanks a lot! As a trade, I can give u some service pakcages in fixing some bugs found in those firmwares. Thanks

I just flashed from FC1 everyone used to a D820XEFG3, which I got from GSM ARENA. The phone says it's a Dev. Version, which I'm not 100% what it means, but am guessing to mean developmental. Regardless, it is working really well. Most importantly it took care of most of my BT problems. It's E. European langauge-based. If anybody knows more about this particular firmware, I'd be hapy to hear it.

Unfortunately the only information on these different versions of firmware are either in Russian or Chinese. Use bablefish to translate any google searches you run. Good luck.

Thanks

Those links aren't working for me. Can anyone update me with FC3, FE1, or anything new/more recommended? I have webspace and can re-host the files for a few gig of transfer a month to return the favor. PM or email r o b @ s h r o u d e d . n e t.

I recently updated my flash to this as well. I updated the BIN and TFS included. I too noticed that my BT is working better. I am using the WEP150 as well and the majority of the annoying static noise (if you put the phone in your pocket) is gone now (or very little).

Aside from that, I haven't noticed any other obvious changes. Also, I didn't get the DEV VERSION you talk about. Where did you see that?

Checking version on the phone - *#1234# - brings up "Dev. Version D820XEFG3". Anybody with this firmware have the same thing?

Ok guys so I got my cable & flashed my t809 to d820 it took about 2hrs and I'm loving it. A major draw back for this phone when I got it was the lack of an email client as a t809. I thoughT that I could install a third party java email client and I couldn't. Not a problem with d820 default email client is great & easy to set up. Opera Mini is great too. I had a nokia 3650 before this and I could do everything with it, I had the whole gameboy color game library on that thing, as far as games go I haven't experemented yet, and I'm wondering if you have to go through doing all of that serial java non-sense with the new firmware does n e 1 know? please tell.

Another kool surprise is that you get some really kool lookin number choices for dialing, one looks like real paint and the other looks like sticky pads sure they're kinda cheesy but o well.

One thing I don't like is that the option for having the voice speak the numbers as you dail is gone no matter how you configure that aspect of the system.

I can still use the C button to back up in opera mini and it's like 3 times faster than it was with t809 firmware, I think I read a couple of you guys complaining about not being able to do this n e more.

Control over the short cut keys is great as well. I do miss being able to turn the ringer volume up from the side(i used that feature alot on the t809 firmware) but I think the added features more than make up for what was lost in terms of functionality

Everything about the flash went off without a hitch. I followed the instructions in the 1st post of this forum to a T and had no problems what so ever.

And last but certainly far from least Ring/Vibrate is the best! I was pissed that the phone didn't have this feature when I got the phone. My pissedness (is that even a word?) was increased exponentially when I learned about that damn asending ringer. Thankfully both are past frustrations now that I've flashed to d820. The ringer is still low for about a second but then it cranks at max volume. TID BIT: I think samsung limited the vib/ring feature on t809 because of battery life on this phone since vibrate uses more power than ring does. By the way does n e 1 know of any extended life batteries for this thing?

Well that's the end of my rant. In short; FLASH FLASH FLASH WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR IT'S WAS SO EASY.
