SGH-T809 to SGH-D820 Flash Made Simple! I'm Here To Help!

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Posted by: intrancewetrust

fc3 works like magic, also sgh loader works better then original program...ad2p works fine, edge is working, opera, going to check other stuff like gmail pop, google local later

Posted by: zerocrash

are the t809 flashing cables available in stores in nyc (manhattan)? right now i don't have access to a credit card to get it online.

Posted by: Mistaj0hnny

Best bet would be online. Unless there is someone here in the NYC area that would sell you one. Check your PM's... I have one for sale.

I have a question. I successfully flashed my T-809 to the D-820 and I love it. However, when I am ready to sell the phone, is this now an unlocked phone? Could someone use a Cingular (or any SIM) card now that it has been flashed to D-820 or is my phone still locked to T-mobile?

Adnrusk, thanks for the help here. I recieved my cable yesterday and flshed with FE1 set. I used the SGHD program that was mentioned on post 187 to do a full backup and run the flash. Everything worked great. The one problem that I ran into was getting on the web. There was a typo on one of the stikys about the internet settings, and it was your post with your settings that finally worked for me. Thanks again for all the hard work.

Posted by: zerocrash

i hate to ask this question, but really which fw version is the most stable? I know no1 knows the exact details of each, and its up to each person. But what do some of you actually prefer? There must be a small amount of info you guys know...

edit: i ordered the T809 Cable Data Unlock Kit from unlockitnow.com (link)
not knowing there was a T809 COM Unlock Cable (link). So is the one i ordered the same cable as the one in the COM Unlock Cable? And if it is does that one work for flashing?

Posted by: rEVOLVE

I have FC1 currently and it never "locks up" and only once in awhile it spontaneously reboots while browsing w/ Opera Mini (doesn't happen w/ other Java apps though incl. Google Maps Mobile). Also use the bluetooth, vid and still cam, & music player frequently w/o crashes or lockups.

Can anyone w/ FC3 or newer chime in and say whether thats equal to what they're experiencing?

Use USB cable instead of com cable, it will be much faster in flashing.

heres the thing though, i already ordered it and they are shipping it...

Posted by: skataneric

as long as your computer has a com port dont worry its easier with a com cable. Just download the ISO on the first page and auto load it and follow the instructions and your good to go.

If you get the usb you have to get emulation software to make it look like a com port.

I used the com cable. took a little under 2 hours to flash. Its the same time with the usb because you set the transfer rate with the flash program to the same speed.

I'm curious about the different firmware versions tho. Pro's, Con's, differences etc...
So far I've read no differences.
Mine is the FC1 and works fine. I do get the random reboot. But you know what even when i had the original t809 software on it, it would still randomly reboot also.

Posted by: Lyrical

Is the iso link down? I'm unable to download it at the moment...

Posted by: jjkim325

Ok.... so I bought a cable from ebay a while back it's been sitting there for a bit and finally I decided to flash my T809. I plug in my cable and put in a new battery and decide "Hey.... y not backup the firmware I have first just in case" So I d/l the SGHFD software and plug in the cable to my phone and hit the power button. All I get is the usual Tmobile splash and then the "Insert SIM" screen. Next I figured, screw the backup opened up OneNAND 17 and checked the "Do not..." option at top and select both bin+tfs option and put in the files. I click start and it prompts me to turn on the phone. SO again I hit that power button and it just does the same thing as before.

Am I missing something? Does anything else need to be configured for the COM port? The rate is set correctly too. Could someone please PM me or reply. I've been waiting to do this for months.

Posted by: Lyrical

I'm having that very same problem. I set up OneNand correctly, and it prompts me to turn on the phone. I tap the power button, and it just turns on the phone with the insert sim screen...

Am i doing something wrong?

Posted by: skataneric

dont hold the power button down. just tap it once lightly.

Posted by: jjkim325

That's what I'm doing..... should I have the phone slid open or should it be closed?

Posted by: sharthap

Hello Everyone,

As another proud owner of the T809, I too would like to reap the rewards of flashing up to the D820.

Since my knowledge in this field is fairly limited, can you guys please answer some of my questions? I have gone through all the pages of this thread, but am still left with some doubts.

1) I understand flashing will enable the A2DP profile on my phone. With that, will I be able to listen to mp3s with my Motorola HT820 bluetooth headphones?

2) Is it possible for me to purchase the flash cable from a store, or will I only find it online? If the former, then what store/s? If the latter, can someone please post a link to some online stores that sell the required cable?

3) I read somewhere that it is possible to flash to a D900. Is that true or am I just dumb?

Would greatly appreciate assistance for fellow T809ers.

Posted by: hobbang819

1. Yes you can use it since it uses the a2dp profile

2. i got my cable from phantomgsm on ebay, both the serial and usb cables work. if you get the usb cable, you just need to download the ftdi drivers from phantomgsm's site, no emulation software like skataneric said.

3. i highly doubt you can flash with d900 since it has different hardware such as the camera

1) AWESOME!! So...after I pair the headphones with the phone, then start the mp3 player, will I be able to hear it on the headphones? Or do I have to do something else? And will the music play only on the headphones or simultaneously on the phone's speakers as well?

2) Phantomgsm seems to be based in Scotland. Do you know of any US based stores?

3) Oh ok.

1 more thing...which version of firmware to use? I belive fc3 is out??

Thanks hobbang819

Posted by: Mistaj0hnny

1.) you go to the music player, click options, then click "Transfer to A/V headset."

Fc3 is the newest out, I believe. I don't think there are any stores that sell them in the U.S. Best bet would be to check eBay or the BST forums here on Hofo. Check your PM's, I have one for sale.

Posted by: sharthap

does anyone have a cable for sale?

Posted by: zerocrash

mistaj0hnny does.

so does anyone know which is the best fw or most preferred fw?
thanks

Flashed my t809 and love it so far even added a bar to signal and 1 day extra battery life. But since i use TMO I tried to get t-zones on phone the was described on here and it says phone is not acceptable for t-zones and yes i know why.But is there a way of getting t-zones back on phone after the flashing?MMS was easy.Got that from TMO.But the t-zones didn't work.Anybody help?

Posted by: drivethruguy69

Andrusk...i have flashed my t809 with D820 and phone works better...but one thing how or can you get t-zones back on phone since i am with TMO and would like to have it.Itried what it said to do on here and it does send message to phone and i can get t-zones to come up but when i click on like a the music or wallpaper it says phone is not supported. Is there a way around this or am i S.O.L. on this after flashing?.Thanks.

Posted by: zerocrash

no need to double post.
i dont' know how to get t-zone back up but i think i've read in this thread somewhere, and it seems t-zone works... or i might be wrong but just look through this thread, u'll find something.

Posted by: sharthap

I am yet to flash my t809. meanwhile, can anyone help me with another issue? I just inserted a new 1 gb sandisk card into my phone, but it still shows a total of 64 mb under the memory management option???

Posted by: faded808

i wanted to know if i could use the oem cable??

Posted by: jessi3k3

@faded808: Sorry, you cant. You have to either buy a special USB cable or a serial flash cable.

@sharthap: Are you sure you arent checking the internal (shared) disk space and not the memory card space? Go to Memory status and scroll left until you see the status for your memory card.

Posted by: skataneric

look way back on the first page. there is a post that tells you how to manually set up your internet and your mms.

Hello again..Just to let andrusk and others know though this is an old post to getting t-zones back on phone after flashing to D820 firmware...The solution about getting t-zones back on phone the he(andrusk)has posted did not work basically. What i mean by this is that the flash went fine.Did word for word what he said to do.I can get to t-zones homepage but when i get there and try to get it to bring up like ringtones or wallpapers it says phone is not compatible or supported. Is there a way around this or am i stuck with this or just to re-flash back to t809 firmware.I'm selling phone and would like to sell it with D820 firmware on it with t-zones that will work.MMS Settings were fine and works.Did TMO do something to prevent this from working?Let me know.Thank's.

Just an FYI. I purchased a USB flash cable from phantom_buyerphantom_nicky(Ebay name) and it took 6 weeks to arrive here in TX. On top of that he sent me the wrong cable, a serial cable. He then wanted me to ship that cheap quality cable back to him at my expense and wait another 6 weeks to get back to him. Then another 6 weeks to get another, a total of 4.5 months. For a $23 part! I understand the return policy is pretty common, ship it back and we'll make it right. But this is ridiculous, it forces you to have to deal with it yourself. I had to file a dispute with Paypal after repeatedly e-mailing the guy and getting no responses. It was only after that that he started communicating. Poor seller.

Posted by: hobbang819

it only took 1 week for the cable to get to me, was the wrong cable too but i didnt have to return it and the correct one also took 1 week. i'm in new jersey so wouldnt think it would take that much longer.

Posted by: Mistaj0hnny

Bought mine from a seller here, took 2 days

Just sold it to someone else, he should be getting it any day now.

Posted by: jonneepuh

can someone direct me to a good copy of the fc3 firmware. a version with english please.

thank you.

Posted by: drivethruguy69

Since the search is engine down right now can someone send me the link to get the t809 firmware? I like the D820 firmware but i am moving to another phone and no one wants to buy the phone with the D820 Firmware on it because the little whiners use yahoo and ICQ and AOL Messenger on them and the D820 Takes that away.So please someone on here message me or email me at drivethruguy69@yahoo with a link i can get the t809 original firmware from....Thanx.

Posted by: zerocrash

damit, the cable is taking forever to get here. wish i had bought it from somewhere else.
anyways can someone make a list of all the stuff that is needed to be backed up before a flash? like t809 fw, contacts, or w/e...

i might pick up a t809 today off craigslist, and i was just wondering, once u mount the iso and run the auto.bat file and follow the instructions to convert the software from t809 to d820, does it also unlock the fone? or is that a separate process?

and where do i buy the cable to flash it??

and could i just get some pix of the d820 software running on a t809?

just flashed my t809 to t820. used oneNANDdownloader V1.8 lite and FC3. easy as a pie. got my serial cable and a CD with oneNAND, FC2, FC3, and some games from Mistaj0hnny.

the t820 interface is awesome. t809 UI was so dull and dry...this one is a lot more graphical and looks better. most of all, its A2DP compliant now. that means that I can use my sexy motorola HT820 bluetooth headphones to listen to music off the phone. with the 1gb sandisk card added, I got a phone/mp3 player with blutooth all in one, sweet.

man, I love technology

Posted by: cheapshots

I flashed my T809 and followed the procedure as outlined into this thread except I flashed with FC2 ( downloaded from D820DXFC2). Actually .tfs file is provided by andrusk (FC1) while .cla is FC2.

Problem is that I have T-mobile service but on the screen it shows cingular?? Any help is appreciated. Thanks

Posted by: Mistaj0hnny

You're probably in California where they switched a bunch of the T-Mobile towers for Cingular ones. It's nothing really, you still have the T-Mobile account, but if it really bothers you, you can set the 809 (that's flashed to 820) so that it doesn't show anything.

Posted by: cheapshots

Thanks for quick reply!

Posted by: cu2cool

Does anybody have the original t809 firmware and instructions on how to restore it in case I don't like the 820 interface?

Posted by: hobbang819

you restore it by flashing it the same way as the 820 firmware. you can find the 809 firmware with search.

Posted by: drivethruguy69

Howdy guy..Well i flashed one of my 2 T809's and though i have sold both phones, the only thing i can tell you that i used FC1 Flash. As far as what i think your looking for(sorry i have no pics)but you lose yahoo, icq, aol messenger right off the bat.Now with the FC2 or FC3 I don't know if you do or not.Phone flashed great.Gives you some navigational options that you don't get with TMO.You lose some wallpapers(no huge deal) and your IMEI# Is erased and you lose the availablility to use T-Zones if you use them at all.And to let you know that WAP settings on here do work but you will not be able download from t-zones site but can go to their main page. Then it will tell you that phone is unsupported at this time to try later.I called Samsung and Tmo and they both said the same thing and are working on getting that prob. fixed.Remember if you want to flash back after flashing to D820.I personally could not find original firmware flash for t809 that was still working on cetain sites. So a cellphone expert copied the files on t809 from TMO And twice tried it messed up the naviagational stuff both in Menu and on Nav.Pad on phone and had to flash back to D820 Firmware. So make sure this is what you want to do for i have not seen this problem on here yet.But then i may have missed it.That's what happened to me and i seen no fixes for this. But if your not a TMO Fan you should like this firmware.Gives you the t/v out option also. And the cable is available on Ebay and on sites on the interent.

can any of you tell me if this d820 firmware addresses the annoyance after taking a picture and the t-809 stock firmware wants to phone home with an evasive msg. - send to my photo album - or the like. It's extremely annoying and actually caused my wife to incure a upload overage. I'd like for it to just default to preview, then next picture start, not asking me if I'd like to upload picture.

Follow the steps outlined at the beginning of this thread. Make sure you have a new battery and allow the program to run for at least a couple of hours.

Hey syzygylock....I have the same problem, well kind of.I sold a flashed T809 to D820 to a guy in California and he is on TMO Like me and the entire time i had the phone here in Ohio when i put SIM in it read T-mobile but on his it's reading Cingular.Did you evet get an answer for this for i need an asnwer and didn't see one on here or i feel compelled to give him his money back and him send me back the phone. But i find it strange especially since this phone was flashed by me,works great and never read anything but t-mobile when i used the phone. So if you have the answer or anyone else could you help address this issue so i know what to do......Thanks guy's/gal's.

nothing wrong with the phone, it shows as cingular when you are roaming on their network. just turn the text off if you dont want to see it.

Posted by: Yanktar03

I thought about flashing my phone--and might just yet. But I wanted a second one and I wanted it new. New, T-809s without a service were almost as much as new unlocked D-820s without a service, and the cost from Flashmycell.com made up the difference. So I just bought the D-820 off eBay. I then gave my T-809 to my wife, pulling the SIM from her lousy V600 (HUGE waste of money--piece of junk phone) and popped in into the T-809--she doesn't want or need all the extras the D-820 has.

But I AM curious: Why, oh why did T-Mobile make it impossible to change the options on your browser? The D-820 has them--that's how you get the T-zones.

So far, the only things the T-809 had that I liked a little better, was access to IMs and when you pressed the top nav button the camera came on. I programmed the D-820 so the top button takes you to the camera, but you still have to turn it on, it's not automatically on.

It was easy enough to move my wallpaper--pic of my kids--and my ringtone--and the One Gig Sandisk transferred over seamlessly.

So far, I'm not too crazy about the startup to the "Samsung Fun Club", and the charger came with the Euro plug. Luckily, I had a Euro-to-US adapter plug that I otherwise never use, and the charger, like almost all today for small electronics, is 110-240 compatible. This is great when you travel or go on cruise ships because with a stack of plug adapters (not converters) you can use the 220/240 outlets.

Otherwise, the D-820 is VERY similar to the T-809. But I STILL can't find an "Airplane mode"!

Posted by: DJ Disaster

can somebody link me to the thread about flashing it back to 809?

Posted by: hobbang819

the d820 and t809 should be very similar since they are the same phone hardware-wise. the only difference is in firmware where t-mobile wanted some things included (im client) and others excluded (browser settings, tv out, mp3 ringtone, etc etc)

i believe the d820 does not have an airline mode. if its not under setting>phone settings>offline mode then I assume its not there.

Has anyone managed to "combine" the d820 and the t809 firmware so you can have for example, messenger, and the no shutter sound?

Posted by: Mistaj0hnny

Haha, ok, when did we talk about the status of our cables? Most of the posts were where they could find one other than eBay, isn't that helpful? Maybe you've had a bad day. Talking **** online doesn't help at all. I was really gonna help you but you've got a snotty attitude. Karma's a *****, ain't it?

Posted by: Yanktar03

No, there just doesn't seem to be an airline mode on either. I don't miss AIM--I can run that on my MDA a lot easier than on the Samsung. But the D-820 is much more flexible and will synch easily with Outlook. Since we use Outlook in our office, I use it at home, and synching the phone helps.

T-Mobile has dropped the T-809 and seems to have replaced it with the T-629 (which is out of stock!).
The t-629 seems VERY similar to the T-809 but has voice recognition dialing--It also has Airplane mode.

Now I wish I had waited JUST a little longer!

It seems like the only upgrade that phone acutally has is the voice dialing, and the fact that they let you use it with their new "my faves" program. The fact that you have to have one of their newest phones to use a feature that has nothing to do with what phone it's on is beyond me, but whatever.

Back on the voice dialing though, do you ever really use it? I know with the other phones I've had it seemed all nifty and stuff, but when it actually came down to it, it took longer to get the phone to recognize what you're saying then it would to look down and press three buttons to call someone. Or is it just me?

will the 629 firmware work with the t809?

Posted by: Yanktar03

I don't really need voice dialing--speed dialing works just fine. But I really miss the airplane mode--We travel a couple of times a year or more and it'd be great to be able to use the phone on the plane for movies etc.

Back on the voice dialing though, do you ever really use it? I know with the other phones I've had it seemed all nifty and stuff, but when it actually came down to it, it took longer to get the phone to recognize what you're saying then it would to look down and press three buttons to call someone. Or is it just me?

If you're talking about gettings tzones working again all you have to do is re-enter the server information into the phone. Which can be found on the first page of this thread. Or below

I want to address a few issues that i read on these post and replies. The T629 is not a bad phone..yes i have one....but the things they took off the phone never will make sense.Took away much louder ringtones because they took away 1 speaker. So no stereo sound now nor is the speakerphone anywhere near as loud(which i use alot). To the person that said T629 is out of stock, that must be in your area because i can get them all day here in Dayton. All 4 stores have plenty with more on the way.The t629's signal and battery life is a tad bit better than the t809(which i also used). The menu's on t629 are very nice and fast.TMO Actually had 3 wall's on this phone that are decent, not great but decent.Ringer's...well you know tmo and samsung ringers i'm sure. And T629 to me is a better looking phone than t809,but it doesn't quit cut what a true t809 can do and the memory as we all know by now is much greater(built in)than the T629.To the other now...Now i have tried the settings for t-zones on here and the one' on tmo site and i can vouch that if you flashed phone to an overseas phones firmware it will not support it.You can get to the home page..But when you click on say wallpapers or even music you will get prompted telling you your phone is not supported though it has the ability to download both<---this is almost a quote. They are working on this issue so they say.MMS Settings will work fine.I just got a brand new in box Samsung E760 And did the same thing as above. Now if anyone has figured out a way to get it to actually work please write me or post. Not that it's a huge deal because with the disc and cable you should get what ya need anyway and not pay 1.49 or 1.99 for the above.1 last thing...I love this E760 much more than either phone so i am returning T629 today and will wait till nokia 6133 is released to compare it with the E760...though 6133 does more it might be too much for me and a waste of money because i use a cell phone for a cell phone and only want some extra memory and the E760 has 92mb's built in..more than enough for me...i don't need Sd slot...posted is some opinion's that are mine and mine alone..the technical small stuff is just fact as to what i actually held in hand and used...as always don't shoot the messenger or someone with an opinion.

I had the cable sitting around for a week or two and took the plunge last night. First I backed up my my firmware using the "sghfd" program. It reported not recongnizing the chip but I clicked yes and did a full dump of the firmware. That seemed to work great and I have a firmware bin file that matched the size of the new 820 firmware so hopefully if I ever "need" to go back to the t809 I can. Next I simply followed the VERY basic instructions and it took 2-3 hours as reported. Sure was nervous and already searching ebay for a replacement if things we bad (ended up with a brick). Anyways finally it finished, I disconnected the cable, put my sim back in and hit the power. Yea-haw, it booted and showed it as a D820! Sweet! After re-setting up the web and mms profiles everything worked as it should. Loaded Opera mini and google maps, very nice by the way. Opera mini is definitely a lot nicer then the bs tzones browser, not only faster but just works better and has better features.

Anyways I am so happy I did this! Finally have vib and ring, opera mini, outlook sync and the ability to record only limited by storage space and I have a 1GB card so to me almost unlimited. Another VERY nice feature I did not know about is that you can pause and continue a single recording which is something I really hated about the t809. Ofter I am brain storming about a project and taking voice notes, with the t809 I had to say everything at once and end the recording where as now I can pause/continue and keep adding to a single recording.

Couple notes...
I used the FC3 firmware found in this thread with the FC1 tfs file. I have not experienced ANY problems/bugs yet.

Pros:
oulook sync
vib & ring
java apps
Internet speed icon
bluetooth stereo headsets (maybe - see below)
record only limited by storage
recording can be paused
customize keypad (shorcuts)
email client

Only cons so far.
As we know the side volume buttons now control the keypad volume, kinda strange it does this but pretty minor.
My bluetooth stereo headset connected fine but the sound would drop out. Looked like the batteries were low on the headset so I will charge and see if that improves otherwise I would consider this un-usable if not fixed by charging the batts. Anyone having any better luck with a certain brand of stereo headset?
No IM but I never used this on the t809.

btw.. Be sure to backup your phonebook as it did clear mine.

I just can't understand why tmobile diabled some of the 820 features. This resolves any complaints I had about this phone. Simply awesone!

Which D820 firmware has traditional Chinese?

another dumb question. Does everyone pay for their Tzone? I remember AGES ago there's a way to get around paying and using Tzone?

Thanks!

D820DXFE1 (password: anycallbbs.com) (Heard: Best verision for people who doesn't want chinese language)

D828/D820/T809 basically is the same phone with differents firmwares.

Chinese Yi Dong mobile company special versions:
D828ZMFC5 (password: anycallbbs.com)

D828ZMFD1 (updated verision of FC5, which fixed black screen when battery is low) (password: anycallbbs.com)

D828EZMFE2 (Newest Version) (password: anycallbbs.com)

I tried this firmware: "D828EZMFE2"

It updated the .CLA part no problem but gave me an error while trying to update the .TFS file. I examined the other firmwares I have and the rror is due to the .DEF file missing from this firmware (I believe)

The .DEF file is tied to the .TFS file and the .CFG file is tied to the .CLA file. It may be possible to edit the .DEF (like a SEEM file for a Motorola)

Even with the goofed up firmware update my phone started. Some of the icons were fubar'd , and there were 2 menu items replaced with proprietary "YiDong" stuff (similar to CIngular or T-Mob proprietary menu items)

It had a few new settings.

I am flashing to the "D820DXFE1" right now.

I forgot to check and see if it restored the IMEI.

Is English still a selectable language with the Yi Dong Firmware?

yes. you have to mess around with the menus to find the right setting.

menu/settings icon/2/1/1 (I think)

You will need to downlaod a firmware that has 4 files (.cla, .cfg, .tfs, .def)

or "hybridize" 2 firmwares. If you flash it and there is no .def file it will error and fubar your phone and then you will have to reflash it.

Posted by: SnoopyII

So who here knows which parts of the phone the .cla file addresses and which parts the .tfs file addresses?

Posted by: SnoopyII

I finished flashing to this firmware: "D820DXFE1"

It allows you to:

1) Set the volume up to 10 (instead of 7 or 8 with the other firmwares)

2) You can select "none" for the camera shutter sound.

3) It allows to select "automatic", 850/1900, 900/1800 in the network band settings.

4) It works fine with my HS820 bluetooth headset.

5) IMEI is still zeroed out.

6) A lot of the Sansung "secret code" menus don't work.

7) *#8999*8278# (advanced settings does work. Many volume settings can be adjusted here)

I think I am going to stick with this firmware for now.

I used the .CLA file from 1 firmware and the .TFS file from another firmware and got the best of both worlds.

I started a new thread about it.

EDGE & the additional menu settings.

Well, I have successfully flashed my t809 with the cable I got from phantomGSM and the iso provided by andrusk. Thanks for the simple guide/bat dude! I got the cable in 4 days from uk to california!
I love the phone alot better as a d820. My only beef thus far is that my reception is slightly worse. It went from poor to terrible. Seems related but Im no expert. I no longer can select tmo on network. I'm wondering if its just a firmware issue. (I'm using D820XAFC1 from iso) Anyone have poor reception issues that were corrected with a newer firmware? e.g D820XAFC2 Also, I'm sure its been posted before, but is there any information as far as a comparison between the firmware in english?
Dist.

Posted by: sir.distortion

well I was bored, and I went with D820XAFC1.tfs & D820DXFC3.CLA the only thing that I've noticed different is that it now says GPRS quad band rather than EDGE quadband on boot. Im searching for something new and interesting already.

Posted by: gnikxnitsud

what exactly do you guys mean by flashing the t809 because i just got one and i would like to know what you guys mean? sorry i am knew but willing to learn!

Posted by: breadboy16

My java apps suddenly stoped working today with Tzones...anyone else having the same issues?

Posted by: pfizzyx

I flashed my t809 with the fc1 firmware about 6 months ago and am generally pretty happy with it. There are 3 problems with it that frustrate me though:

1. The display resolution is only displaying at 65,536 instead of the 262k its capable of. (checked with FPCbench)
2. It doesn't save my sent text messages. (in case i need to initiate damage control after a long night of drunk texting)
3. No EDGE. (I'm pretty sure this is the case, because I only ever see the little g in the upper right corner using either opera or the built in.)

I've spent countless hours looking for COMPLETE fc2, fc3, or fc4 firmware with no luck. Plenty of dead and expired links etc. but nothing solid. I have no idea where those who say they have it got it, but PLEASE can you contact me if you do! And do you have the same problems with these other firmwares?

thanx

I just went with the newest fw D820XEFG3 and I think its by far the best I've used. Its out there and theres links on this site, probably this thread, but if you cant find it let me know.

Java applets like FPCBench can only use 65536 colors. This is stated in Samsung's literature on the D820 and is probably true of all firmware versions.

Quote:

There is no "Save and send" option just below the "Send only" option? The D820XEFG3 firmware has this.

The Java VM only displays the G...not sure why you don't see the E at other times. Try using the built-in browser to download a file and see how fast it goes. I have no problems with D820XEFG3 in this respect.

Apparently it used to be the case, at least in the USA, that you didn't need to pay for t-zones to get Internet access. The fee was just for the specialized t-zones menu options, like their news, weather, sports and their worthless WAP games. But within the past year or so they stopped that, so now you actually have to pay for it. Though most ports are restricted, for $6/month for unlimited data, it's a great deal. (If only the Gmail applet didn't crash the phone it would be just about perfect!)

Anyone in the Phoenix Metro Area willing to let me "borrow" their cable?

Posted by: rainbush

Can someone please help me?

I've tried twice to flash my phone with the original ISO file and the program gets about 3/4 of the way and then just hangs. The progress bar doesnt move after that. When I unplug my phone it doesn't do anything. It won't light up or do much at all. I used a brand new 9V battery each time and the phone was FULLY charged both times (I left it in over night).

How can I fix my phone?!

Posted by: sir.distortion

Did you check Don't Auto NAND format in OneNANDdownloader? When you flash it, make sure you select the BIN+TFS button each time (whether it is selected or not). Also browse the files and select them each time. (when using 1.8 Lite). Also, make sure ALL your files are there in the same directory, the .tfs, .cfg, .def and .cla files. If that doesnt work there are other suggestions in this long thread resembling this situation if you were to peruse through it. Its happened before from what I recall reading here. Also did you burn the iso or mount it? If you burnt it I'd try mounting it with daemon tools.

edit: none of what I said should matter other then the check auto nand format, since you are using the iso that has all the files together Mounting rather then burning is better for some. I am positive someone has had this issue in this thread, until someone with more knowledge responds start readin

Hello! I have a t809 phone that has already been flashed to D820. But I have a problem using the Opera mini .. it was working fine when I first got this phone however I was searching something the other day and asked "Want to send HTTP information?" instead of clicking "YES" .. I accidentally pressed "NO" .. since then the Opera mini doesn't work anymore .. every time I search something .. I always end up with "An error occurred." Does anyone know how to change the settings back or what do I need to do?

I have a T-809 and I want to utilize OperaMini/Java Gmail/Google Maps. If I flash my T-809 to D820 firmware, can I use these applications? Also, I understand that as a result of the flash, I will lose Yahoo Messenger. Can I download a third-party midlet to replace this lost functionality. YIM is something I use daily. I desperately need help answering these questions. My understanding is that the RAZR can be modded to access the three apps above. If I can not get my T-809 to work, it will be going on the market...

Does the D820 have SYNC?
I'm flashing mine in the next 2 or 3 days

These Apps will work when you flash your phone:
OperaMini/Java Gmail/Google Maps

I have heard of some problems with the Gmail, but thats all, I'm not sure if it was just once, or if it doesn't work well, but it doesn't seem to bad.
You can probably download YIM from some kind of 3rd party after you flash, or there will be a fix soon I'm sure

Posted by: Nwahs

I have a quick question. This is what I have done:
1) Connected my phone and the 9v battery to the cord
2) Opened OneNand Downloader V1.8_Lite
3) Checked "Don't Auto NAND Format"
4) Selected "BIN+TFS"
5) Selected the BIN and TFS files to download
6) Pressed "Start" It then asked me to power on the phone, which was already on so I turned it off and on again, and then the blue bar went across and it said "One 1G Nand Flash"
7) I pressed ok, and then it went back to the normal screen, except I could no longer press start, and could press download
8) I pressed download and it says **Start BINARY downloading...
The blue progress bar is on pace to take a little over an hour, so I am assuming I did everything right....

I should ignore the button with the title "NOR Flash operation" that says "Dump..." right?

Thank for your help...I'm flashing it to FC1 as we speak, so hopefully it will turn out well!!

Posted by: Nwahs

OK my flash is done, I flashed it to FC1.

IF ANYONE NEEDS ANY HELP, PM ME AND I'LL WALK YOU THROUGH IT

I did not click on "NOR Flash operation" and it turned out fine....

Thanks for the great thread, I love my D820 now

I would advice against FC2, I haven't heard anything good about it. It is more risky, with no real positive incentives. FC3 and FC1 don't seem to be different as far as I can tell. FC1 seems most reliable, and I have that on my phone right now...it is very nice, and the flash went perfectly. I would go with FC1 and then you can always go to FC3 or a newer version at any time.

Does anyone know if the T809 COM cable is compatable with other models, e.g. D500, S400i?

Thanx.

On the actual cable it says "COM SAM T809 SAM D800"
Thats all it says....I would go on Ebay and search for the cable and E-mail the seller for more info.

ive heard that the fc1 downgrades the display to 56k ... but i dont think this is possible/true... can anyone confirm?

As we speak, I'm watching a music video and it looks perfectly fine. No difference at all from the T809. The only difference there is, is the fact that the largest video size isn't as big as it used to be, but its still not bad at all, but no, there is nothing different about the display what so ever.

And can it change the 1.3 camera to a higher mega pixel? Like the d900?
Or even further can you flash your t809 to the d900?

What exaclty are the +'s and -'s on flashing your t809 o d820.
And can it change the 1.3 camera to a higher mega pixel? Like the d900?
Or even further can you flash your t809 to the d900?

1. If you could flash the T809 to D900, it would have been done already, so I'm going to go with no on that one

2. (I hate how they always do pros, then cons, cause it leaves you w/ a bad impression)
Cons:
.....*thinking really hard*
*still thinking*
-Ok, so a few little things. When your on the built in wap browser, you don't really have options, you can only click on something, or input text. You have to quit, and then go to "browser" and then "Enter Address"
-When texting someone, instead of changing the word or letter by pressing up and down, you have to press 0. While it sounds bad, its not too bad (coming from someone that hasn't texted less then 800 messages/month so far)
-Instead of the up and down keys being volume, they are keypad sound. Therefor, you can't turn the keypad sound off all the way, unless you have the phone on silent mode. Unless you change your phone volume often, it works fine. The # for silent mode works the same. You could just go to menu-9-4-1-and then change it quickly.

Pros-
-JAVA APPS: You can have opera mini (I freaking love it) and that makes up for the problems in the normal browser....
-I have google maps, it works great!
-EDGE!
-Its just straight up....sexy! i love it
-You can switch around the shortcuts
-Vibe and Ring
-More network options
-A LOT of more options
-No differences in the camera that I can see
-COOLEST THING!! When you type in the numbers, you can have it be sticky notes that get stuck on a bored, or you can have it be a quill writing the numbers. Everyone talks about how cool my phone is just because of that...
-I turned off the 900-1800 bands on my phone and my battery seems to be doing better.
-I have equal, or better signal strength then before
-Piscal Viewer. I can look at PDF, Word, TXT (and IDK what else) documents on my phone....
-I have my Gmail set up on my phone, via pop3 or something like that. Its sweet....

Menu Icons are:
Call Records
Phone Book
Applications:
--Music Player
--Voice Recorder
--Image Editor
--Java World
Browser
Messages
File Manager
Calender
Camera
Settings

Its a little different from the T809 menu, but not too much. Plus, since you can set all the shortcuts, you don't have to use it as much.
Any other questions? You can PM me

Have you tried using the * and # keys in the built-in WAP browser?

Woah, sweet!

Just tried it...didn't know that works like that. Very slick

Well, now I like the new browser more then the old one....but I can't go back and edit my other post.
Thanks for the info! Thats why I love this site...

I just installed the FG3 firmware after contemplating between it and FC1. I must admit that this firmware flash is a great update to your phone.

I have had NO problems whatsoever with the FG3 firmware. Opera Mini & Google Maps have been installed successfully also.

If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to PM me or post. I'm willing to help anybody in need...

My t809 converted to a d820 got stolen last week

I guess I wont be needing my cable anymore.

I have the Serial cable to upgrade the firmware for sale now if anyone is interested. Quickest way to get in touch with me is email at epelfrey@gmail.com or PM me if you MUST

How can I fix my phone?!

I've run into the same problem. For me it looks like about 2/3rds into the TFS then it hangs. I was originally doing this off a CD that I burned the ISO to. But from an earlier reply, I decided to mount the ISO with Daemon tools and try again.

This is my 3rd or 4th try now. I still keep getting stuck at the same spot.

My phone is fully charged. I've used a new 9V batteries twice. After I stop the hung attempts I've checked the battery on the phone and it still shows a high charge and even the 9V battery seems good, so I don't think the issue is with power.

I just found another computer with a serial port (which isn't an easy task in this day and age), so I'm about to try this yet again.

But I am also very curious if anyone has run across this problem and gotten around it.

Did you try flashing just the CLA? (in onenand downloader, instead of BIN+TFS, select just BIN)

The CLA flashed just fine. Now I'm just selecting TFS since this is what is getting stuck. I assume I need to flash TFS? I have not tried reflashing the CLA BIN since it appeared to be successful. Should I flash that again too?

Posted by: Ravynmagi

Also I noticed. I have to remove and replace my cell battery each time. Otherwise I can't charge the phone or power on to start the flash again. So it seems like the phone itself might be getting locked up during this process. Hmm..

Try flashing a different TFS see if that helps. Use the TFS in this zip file.
http://firmware.javer.sgh.ru/?frm=D820XEFI2&t=4
The TFS just contains the images and games and stuff like that, nothing important, so any properly flashed TFS should do the trick.

And yea, you don't need to flash again the CLA if that went fine.

Posted by: esquirefender

Can I still use it with Cingular?

Posted by: freezefire

Yes. In fact, flashing it would unlock it anyway

Do you know what's new in this firmware? According to the following page, it is from this past September, while D820XEFG3 (what I have) is from July:

I've used it and I didn't find anything different... maybe some very unlikely bugs were fixed or it was just a translation for eastern european lagnuages.
But the TFS is basically the same for all firmwares, just different pre-loaded images and stuff like that.

I'm interested in flashing my t809, but I am just wondering if I flash it to the d820, do i still need my subscription to t-mobileweb? or is accessing the internet free now?

If anyone has cables and cds with games please email me also.

Of course you still need the t-zones... and you will have to configure it again.

I dont have a serial port and dont feel like waiting two weeks for a cable.

any instructions on how to build a USB flash cable?

I think there is a reason that the flash cable is for a serial port, most likely because it wouldn't work w/ USB. Otherwise it would use USB, because thats much more universal now. Anyone flashing their phone, likely has somewhat of a new computer with a USB port

I've flashed mine with a USB cable, you just need to install drivers available on phantomgsm (the ebay seller that sells this cables) site, those drivers emulate serial on USB. And it's faster, up to ~900,000 bits/sec instead of the ~128,000 bits/sec max on serial.
And since USB is powered, there's no need for the extra 9V battery you need to attach with the serial cable.

Posted by: Spetsnaz Op

any hofo members gotten the T809 flash on the D807 - or was it only that guy at mobiledia? it so does the D820 firmware also work?

Posted by: flashmyT809

Can you tell me what the mechanical differences are between a data cable
and a USB flash cable?

What is it in that little box...capacitors? I mean if you're getting the power anyway...

HAS ANYBODY TRIED USING THE SOFTWARE FOR THE USB FLASH CABLE WITH REGULAR DATA CABLE?

Posted by: mrgst98

ok well i got all the information i need now im stuck with trying to use the usb cable to flash because im only 15 and well credit cards arent here yet so can anyone help me set up the drivers to use the usb cable cause i got the software now i just need to load them

Posted by: ss284

Im pretty sure you need a special USB cable or serial cable to flash it. A standard usb data cable wont work.

On another note, after flashing to the most recent firmware I noticed that the free user accessible memory is now only about 60MB as opposed to 80MB. Does anyone know where the hell the 20MB went to? piscel viewer cant be 20MB can it?

Posted by: ibrahim2k2

is there any way to get Google maps on the t809 without flashing it? i doubt there is...but it would be pretty sweet. i know t-mobile blocks you from doing anything on the phone, but i've found ways around that stuff before. there has to be a way around this...

Posted by: andrusk

There is no way around it. You have to flash your phone if you want to use java apps that access the internet. That's just the way it is my friend.

Yeah I get that too. I am guessing that if we somehow did download the program for a different Samsung phone, and put it on the D820, it would work though. Can you find any way to download it for the D900 or a different Samsung phone or anything like that??

Are there any people who has Flashing cable, located near Baltimore, MD? So that I can borrow cable from to test flashing? Thanks a lot! As a trade, I can give u some service pakcages in fixing some bugs found in those firmwares. Thanks

Posted by: dc5ss

so before you guys flashed your t809 to d820, how long can you record a video by using the camcorder feature?

Posted by: Tony_Here

Anyone close to Oklahoma City with a cable I can buy/borrow or that would flash my phone..

Posted by: funkdoobiest

Well I'm lost cause the original iso file from the very first post is no longer working and the anycallbbs.com links don't work either. Not only that, all this phone language is making my head spin. I just want my phone to ring/vibrate at the same time really, I don't care about google maps, wap, internet, or any of that other stuff you guys talk about. I just want to keep my IM intact along with the other phone features.

So I have the data cable and I just need to know what I need to install, where to DL it from, and what interface I need to use if you don't mind helping me out. I DL'ed the hex file, but I'm not sure what to do with it. Last time I used a hex file I used a DSS program to run it.

Posted by: andrusk

I took the liberty of re-uploading the original .iso file containing all of the files necessary to flash your t809 to the d820. While this is not the newest firmware, it is the same firmware that I have been using for going on 7 months now with no problems. Below is the link to the .iso file, and below that is the link to daemon tools.

Hey thanks alot. Great directions too. I only have one problem that's keeping me from flashing it. It won't recognize the phone being turned on. I tried both com ports and they're noth enabled too in my device manager. 9v battery is brand new and phone is fully charged. Do I have to change the port settings or anything?

Posted by: funkdoobiest

Thanks. I went ahead and burned it into a CD. I took the phone w/cable to my sister's newer pc and it still didn't work. I'm going to try my mom's tomorrow.

Why does it keep disappearing?

Posted by: chinkerton

I flashed my phone already to the D820. But when I was flashing, I guess I ran out of battery on my phone. I have the USB cable. Now I'm tried to flash just the TFS file because the CLA file was fine. It didnt work. I got to the press power on and tapped on the power button but nothing. No bars scrolling anywhere. I tried it the following night. This time I was reflashing the whole thing with Firmware that supposedly has Chinese on it. But again, I got to the power on and it doesnt do anything. I tried tapping it and holding it down for only a second, nothing works. Does anyone think it's the USB Cable? I got it from ebay but not Phantom. NEED HELP ASAP. Thanks

I've also used OneNand Downloader v1.7, v1.8Lite, and 1.8SGH_POP. Still No Go.

Sorry about your phone chinkerton...Wish I could help, but I have no idea what to do.

QUESTION:
Can anyone get ORB streaming to work on their flashed phone? Mine isn't working and I was wondering if there was a way I could get it to work.

Posted by: ss284

Just a question to those who have flashed, how much user accessible memory is there available after the flash? After flashing with XEFI2, I have a little less than 60MB remaining. Is this normal, or do the FC1/3 firmwares come with 80MB free like the phone should have?

If there is one thing I love to death it is ORB. I use it to stream music and other things to my computer at work so I'm never without my gigantic music collection. I also tried to get streaming to work with my D820, but I think the problem lies not with ORB, but with the phone. I'm thinking that the phone does not support 3gp streaming like many other phones do. Now that I want to use it, it is one of the features I am mad it doesn't have, but other than that, I love my phone.

Now I'm flashing D820XEFI2. However, I'm missing some features in the T809 firmware.
I did backup firmware (Bin format using sghfd ver 7.0). However I should backup tsf file too. I forgot it.
Is there anybody who backup the original t809 firmware tsf file? This file is not big, and not long time to backup this file using sghfd. I only need tsf file. Please share this file..Please..

Posted by: sghE715guY

Last night I flashed to D820XEFG3 firmware. Everything went fine, I just followed these instructions I got from an ealier post and used OneNANDDownloader_v18_Lite:
(make sure phone is fully charged)
1) Connected my phone and the brand new 9v battery to the cord
2) Opened OneNand Downloader V1.8_Lite
3) Checked "Don't Auto NAND Format"
4) Selected "BIN+TFS"
5) Selected the BIN and TFS files to download
6) Pressed "Start" It then asked me to power on the phone, which was already on so I turned it off and on again, and then the blue bar went across and it said "One 1G Nand Flash"
7) I pressed ok, and then it went back to the normal screen, except I could no longer press start, and could press download
8) I pressed download and it says **Start BINARY downloading...
After about an hour, it should start TSF downloading.
The entire process took 2 hours.. maybe 2 and a half hours.

The only issue is the 00000000000000 IMEI and BTID. I looked all over the internet for a solution. Somethings looked promising, like SUS. But it didn't work. I also tried D820winimei, which I got from a Chinese website. The program is in english, but I need a User name and Password to read or change the IMEI.
Looks like the program varifies user name and password by connecting to an IP address related to Samsung in Korea ><. So for now I will have to settle for a ghetto IMEI.
BTW, does NSdongle PRo work for the IMEI problem, it says it can on their website, but I've read threads saying it can't or you need a patch, so I'm confused. Hopefully it can and I can find someone with NSdongle Pro. Anyone successully repaired thei IMEI and BTID? please enlighten me :]

Not sure if this will help but...
Try charging ur phone with ur desktop charger. Even if it looks like its not charging. Maybe do it over night.
Also, I've noticed that before each flash you need to take out the battery and put it back in.

Posted by: funkdoobiest

Cool, mine's done. The only thing that's driving me nuts are the keytones! Especially while IM'ing. I always turn my keytones off. However I do see the un-highlighted option to configure the keytones. Is there not a way to have that option?

No, not really...its annoying for me too. The only way to get rid of them is to turn the phone on silent. Otherwise the loudness of the keypad is controlled by the side buttons, which go from 1-5 and not silent.

Posted by: funkdoobiest

Another thing. I input all the settings as described on page 1 of this thread for T-zones and now I'm able to access T-zones. But when I try to download a game from T-zones it says my phone's not supported. I lost only one $5 game and T-Mobile's going to credit me if I just DL it via T-zones.

I'm not really concerned about the credit, but how am I going to get more games? I tried the method for DL'ing the .jar games with Softkick and all but never had any luck with them.

Would you happen to have those drivers lying around? I went on PhantomGSM and their link for those drivers (as well as all of their drivers) are totally dead. I don't want to buy a serial cable so this would be perfect if you could do this for me.

Thanks!

Sorry, I don't have those drivers try googling them.

I have a question about the Edge,
I'm not sure if the hardware of the t809 and te D820 is the same or not, but it they're not, wouldn't the Edge not work because the hardware doesn't support it in the T809, even if the D820 firmware has it?
I see the Edge icon when I use wap, but in Opera mini its a G that flashes when I use t zones. Can anyone confirm that it works? Is there anything I have to do to set it up? Is there a way I can know because my t zones doesn't seem to go very fast.

Thanks for any response :]

The D820 DOES have EDGE. Even when the little G icon appears on Opera Mini, Edge is still working.
My test speeds were over 100 KB/s meaning that yes, I do have EDGE.
There is one of those codes (Like *#22671# or *#8999*321#) that gets you to the menu, there you can change it to EGPRS from GPRS...but my codes are not working for some reason right now....Sorry

Starting time is around 2:00PM Pacific...and now it is 5:04PM, and is still flashing the TFS file... Bin is complete, but the TFS has been sitting there fr 30 minutes without moving(about 2/3 of scale).

Any idea? I use a new Duracell 9V batter and have my T809 charged for overnight...

Good. You can go in and change the ring volume...but you can't use the side keys to do it anymore, they now change the keypad tones.
Get a louder ringtone

Hi,
I recently flashed my T809 to a D820, firmware D820XEFG3.
It works great, but I had a question,

I noticed that I can't use a caller ID photo with a number unless its saved to the phone and not the sim card. On all my previous Samsung phones I was able to assign numbers on my sim card a caller ID photo and I know my friends t509 can. I'm not sure if the t809 could because I flashed it soon after I got it. Can anyone please enlighten me on this issue?
Is it like this for all D820's, or just my firmware?

Also, I noticed that I couldn't get mmf ringtones on the D820. It seems like its not supported. Is this the case? Is it just my version of the firmware.

Thanks so much.
And thanks in advance for you're response.
