mpt 4.21 being very picky! can't connect v3c...

earlier today i had mpt working with my v3c beautifully over bluetooth.
i come back home after getting some lunch and i find that nothing i try to get it working. i tried rebooting, reinstalling, updating, etc. i tried my usb cable as well.
i'm on verizon .04 firmware temporarily.
what's the deal? all i really want to do is get my contacts off of my phone so when i flash to alltel i can just throw them back on there instead of putting them all back on the phone manually >_<
