Nokia N80 Firmware Upgrade

Hi!

There are a lot of forums that discuss updating the firmware of the Nokia N80 from version V3.0614.0.3 to V3.0617.0.6 and I am interested in doing this myself also.

Could somebody give a novice a hand and give me some clear instructions on how to do this and what programs/files I will need?!
Is this easy to do?!

I live in the UK so obviously I need the correct firmware version for the country, and anyone's advice that has aleady successfully done this would be greatly apprieciated!

When I type *#0000# into the phone it displays:

You should use .V01 (the 58.01 indicates this is the British English version).

Being in Canada I believe you should use V08 ("Western" English)

No each version contains different languages and has been prepared for different countries of sale. I may have been wrong about V08 - I think you'd be better using V01. I've seen someone saying V08 is "Western" English (whatever that is) and someone else saing it is Arabic.

People V 4.0020.0.1 is a fake....lastest are 3.0617.0.6 or 3.0618.0.2 H3G (the UK and Austria market only!!!!) So as of now the 3.0617.0.6 is still lastest.

I flashed my N80 with V08 and besides arabic, it has english, francaise, spanish and german.

It might be chinese for all I care, but if it has all those languages,including englishhh it also useable for non-arabic people like me.

ok exactly what i said, but its still arabic, so dont argue, it HAS english, all language packs have english because its the most known language accross the world. so dont argue when u dont know anything, next time just say it has english not it is english, theres a difference

thats because english is the most known language in the world, and no it would not start in arabic, as i use english even though im arab. so stop arguing because thats the language pack for 08. it just contains english how many times do i have to say it. all the other languages also start in english even though they are another language pack, THEY ALL CONTAIN ENGLISH AND START WITH ENGLISH STOP ARGUING ESPECIALLY WHEN U ARE WRONG!

So my phone is UMTS 2100. What UMTS range will Cingular have here in North America? 1900 or 2100? If it's 1900, does that mean I won't be able to try the features of 3g (including video call feature???).

Cingular's UMTS will be on the 850/1900 band so the answer is no, your N80 will not be able to use any of Cingular's 3G features.

Help!!!!!!!! I live in the US and tried to upgrade my N80 firmware yesterday following all the instruction on these formus. I made it to the last step and was unable to reboot the phone and finish. I now just have a white screen. I also followed instructions on flashing a dead phone but the Phoenix 2006 does not have DEAD PHONE USB FLASHING option in the menu.
What can I do????

Ok, I went to do this and at step 23, Windows never installed additional drivers and for step 25 the "Scan Product" option is not available.

Any suggestions?

Is it safe to try the "dead phone flashing"? I'd like the better firmware, but last time I asked Nokia to do it (on my old 6600) they said they couldn't do so since I'd gotten the phone outside the US.

Hi everyone. My N-80 has 3.0618.0.2 (Date 23/05/2006) RM-92 (17). So this is the most recent firmware. I actualy bought this phone from Nokia store in Chicago (where I live) and it came with this firmware. As soon as something new comes out I will have to see if Nokia will flash my phone free of charge or will make me pay. They have tech support on site so they should be able to do it. Btw anyone knows which of the firmware packs contains Polish language?

Does anybody know do any of these regional firmware updates have anything specific in them to configure the phone to talk to the provider? Specifically do all phones regardless of where they are listen for their TMSI on the same PCH channel etc etc? Does this information vary by region ie. firmware region?

Umm, chatti. You have to update your phone to 4.0623.0.41 in order to get FOTA. After getting V4, you can get future firmware versions using FOTA.

So in other words, its either making a trip to the Nokia Care Centre or use Phoenix.

i have one that has 4.0632.0.19~ but its n80ie not n80~ but i doubt it has any hardware difficuities~

Not sure but the bmw has a not so nice record of working with nokia. all my previous smart phones worked now the n80 which i love wont work. sucks no one wants to help the both tell me its the other guys problem. anyone else having these troubles whats n80ie is that the internet version the just came out with?

I tried updating the firmware using Phoenix, I get all the connections right, but when I click start, it gives me an error saying...

"In order to flash the PPm file successfully, the version of the flash update package installed in the prommer must be at least 06.02.2002. Unable to determine the flash update package in the prommer. Do you want to continue?

Yes- Continue flashing
No- Abort"

Does anyone have any ideas why this could be happening. I'm trying to flash it to version 4.0623.0.41.

Any help would be highly appreciated.

i wanted to upgrade to the v 4 but when i tried on nokia phone updater it said no updates available, has anyone had any luck updating their firmware to the new v4 with nokia phone updater if this is not possible how else can i upgrade to this firmware

I had same problem twice when tried to upgrade. try reboot your pc. it went very smooth after for me.

I didnt install Nokia PC suite before upgrade.
After reboot my pc and connect phone to pc, then i selected "pc suite" on the phone, the pc found new hardware..N80... then installed some drivers by pc itself, then I ran updater and it went smooth to upgrade.

If i still have no help on different pc. I'll try to un-install pc suite and updater, then re-install updater again and try if it work.

I have the identical firmware. I can get the updater program to work most of the time, but no update is available yet.
I will be in Europe next week, I live in the US, and will try to go to a Nokia service center and see if they will update for me,

I did try the Asia Pacific site's Updater Software, still no update available for my N80 (46.02).

Technically, Hong Kong/China/Taiwan are their own region with Nokia. Hong Kong is the only site if the 3 that has an English version. While digging thru that site looking for the Uploader software, I found this in the FAQ;

Firmware is your phone's built-in software. Occasionally Nokia releases firmware updates for certain phone models. If you are experiencing trouble with your phone that appears to be firmware related, contact your local Nokia service center to see if an update is available and if it is covered by warranty.

Looks like trying to get my firmware updated at a Service center when I am in Amsterdam next week will be my best option. With the European versions of the N80's looking like they get better/faster updates, I will try to get my phone flashed with a generic European version.

Anyone know a good "while you wait" Nokia service center in Amsterdam?

I was interested in acquiring FOTA and it's not present in my variant (12).
Haven't seen variant 12 in the forums and wondering what region it is from? Also FOTA is not supported on this variant.

I also tried reflashing, with same version, from a diffirent Nokia region; ie, USA site since that is where I am from, and the variant did not change to 1, 2, or 3 which seems to be variants that have FOTA. I originally upgraded from the European site when the ability first came out.

Has anyone else successfully changed variants or is it possible???

Tuliusy2k, firmware acquired through Nokia software updater discussed in various other threads. My personal observation, from the flash, is that Realplayer FF and RW can be accessed through Gallery. Previously RW and FF could not be accessed when starting Realplayer through Gallery.

Also, slider can be closed when answering and talking to someone through my BT headset. These are the most prominent observations to me. Looking for FOTA though.

I had a HK (46.02) phone running the old v3 and couldn't update via NSU. Changed the product to EURO1 using NSS and then upgraded to .41 with NSU. Was then able to upgrade again to .42 with FOTA and my home Wifi (Tmobile signal sucks at home so didn't want to risk GPRS).

Only problem was memory card and PC Suite back-ups wouldn't restore.

iunlock is very reliable. this same thing happened to my N80. for a while i thought i just bricked a $600 phone (the price I paid for n80 when it first came out). man that NSU software is buggy! they shouldn't release a software like that if it will just result in phones being bricked during firmware update. anyways.. evan did a great job in reviving it. i've since sold the n80 and got an e65. hope i don't brick this once a new firmware comes up. lol

this one has been out for a couple months already or rather V4.0707.0.7 released on the same day as the one you listed above - you should be aware in case you ever use it that one of the bugs is that service commands work dont seem to work (like when you type *#123# 'send' on your fido phone to check if youre on the expanded network or not)
where does 522.01 indicate? thats a region code isnt it? mine says 11 in the brackets...i wonder if nokia actually released this one recently cuz it is a diff version than the one i have (last digit a 0 not a 7) but why would they release this one after the one i have? shouldnt it be the other way around?

V5.0719.2 is the nokia unbranded IE for N80/n80ie. This is much improved and works well. You will need to change your phones product code using NSS and then use Nsu to update.

A few symbian sites have more details and disscussions on n80 google for more info for people who are unfamiliar!

I have heard that there are some minor/annoying bugs in v5 from some HoFo, such as sound quality declining over the loudspeaker (all types), and they have stated that 4.06xx is still more stable.

That's really the only thing keeping me from updating.

No it's buggy allright.

I just updated my phone. Everything went smooth as all the other previous updates did, but lo and behold... The scoller can now only go left and up, and the menu button also stopped working.

No, the buttons did'nt break. I took the phone to a friend of mine who is a cellphone expert. Reloaded version 4, et voila, everything worked again.

Just to make sure, we loaded V5 again, and guess what.. Same problem. I would suggest wait until that V5 has been updated for a while...

i have nokia n80 i was trying to dowenload new version i dont know what i did excatly but phone not working and everytime i power it on saying start up failed contact reatlier , need help plz any softwear where i can get the phone back to life,, thanks
