If i were to get a phone Like the treo 650 for instance. Do I HAVE to get the data package?

no you don't. but in order to get the mail in rebate from the corporate store you do. and If you want to use the internet on the device you have to get some sort of data package, the unlimited being the smarter choice so you don't have to worry about your usage.

IMO, if you're going to use any internet or email it's a must have. I paid $150 in usage charges for 2 days last year when I had the Treo 650. If you're not going to use any, don't get the package.

If it requires the dapa package, just grab it and try it out for a few days. If you like it and think it's worth it, keep it. If not call in and drop it. You will still get the (instant) rebate and a great phone.
