qwest and the v710. please read

new to everything but i have been reading the forum for a few days now. cant seem to find an aswer by searching. hears what i have
v710 through qwest (they use sprint equip but no pcs vision service in iowa or nebraska

data ready yes
tri 800/1900 cdma 1x
i have a moto data cable, 512m flash card, mpt 3 and 4 with and without the updates, datapilot and bitpim
i can transfer mp3's and pics through the the flash card, but cannot get my computer (xp pro with sp2) to see this phone through any of the connection software listed above.
when i plug in the data cable i get this popup in the lower righthand corner
"one of the USB devices attached to this computer has malfunctioned, and windows does not recognize it. for assistance click this message" what it seems to come down to is windows doesnt know what a v710 is. i installed the v710 drivers but man...this is getting frustrating
one thing to note, there seems to be NO web access functionality in this phone, which gets me to wondering if it isnt a firmware thing..anyone know anything about qwest and the v710? 8700_01.04.4p ??????
