Hi,

Can you guys pls tell me what's the big deal about 8700r ? it's about $500 and when I compared it, I didn't see anything special between this and 7290...

What's the difference and is it worth the price?

Memory = 64mb, Speed = Intel processor, Display = Auto backlit (light yrs. improved), Speaker Phone, EDGE connectivity, no it's not EV-DO but if you browse it's incredibly fast compared to GPRS (Sadly somewhat useless do the the Robbers 25mb cap) Onboard phone and browswer buttons, like the 71xx series, long overdue if you ask me.

If there's any down side the 8700 series of device are cheaply made, with a cramped keyboard. Not sure why but the durablity RIM had with it 62xx/67xx/72xx/77xx unit went out the window with the 8700. They don't look it but copared to past devices they sure feel it. But a case and don't drop it whatever you do!

If it's worth it well that's your call I really do miss the keyboard or my 72xx and 77xx but the phone buttons, speaker phone and screen did it for me. As I had mentioned I'm not pleased with the keypad or quality...

I currently just have my 7290 activated for data, no voice.. I use my razor for voice.. prefer to keep them seperate just incase something goes wrong with one device the other one still works.. plus the battrey lifetime on the blackberry will be shorter if I use it for voice, so I currently just use it for data and I charge it only once every 3 days which makes me happy..

The only thing I don't like about the 7290 which I'm not sure if it's the same with the 8700r.. is the bluetooth!, it can only be used with a headset.. it can not be used to transfer files, pictures with other bluetooth devices! I don't know if there is a patch I can install or something I can do to enable the transfer of the files.

I wasn't impressed at the time that I got my blackberry when I found out I can not transfer files.

I think the service providers did this on purpose to make more money...

I don't have a data plan on my cell, so it would be nice to be able to take the pic from my cell and then bluetooth it to the 7290 then email it!

OR! it would be nicer to have a cam on the blackberry!

Service Provider's didn't do this. RIM did this on purpose. It's supposed to be a secure device, so they cut out anything that isn't secure, like a camera, or memory card, or file transfering via Bluetooth.

The main difference is that the Intel Processor is way way faster, the screen is way way better, and the memory is way way bigger.
