cingular 8125 wi-fi questions

hey I just had some newbie quesitons....first if you are using wi-fi, then you are not using your data package correct? I only have 5 mb and want to make sure im not using it, and also how do you know you are connected to wifi, i power it on, and it shows its on, but does not tell me to connect and it tells me to change my internet settings. Please help

Of course you're not using your data package if you're using WiFi because you're USING WIFI. When you use your data package then you're using your data package.
