How does one get their mp3 off of sd card on VX8300 to use as ringer?

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

I need help here. I found the secret codes to allow my phone to use mp3's. I also placed on my sd card in the mp3 folder and in the sound folder the mp3 - 30 second clip that i want to use as my ringer. How does the phone recognize the ringer off of the card or does one have to "download" the mp3 ringer directly into the "sound" section of the phone. How does one do this?????

heh good luck having anyone telling how.....i asked this same question and never got a reply
so i did a little searching myself and came across this nifty online uploader
online uploader

pretty self explanitory and easier to use than QPST if your
new like me,bitpim doesn't work with the 8300 or at least i
couldn't figure it out.

here is a nice little list of sounds/ringtones you can download. sounds
just save to your hard drive then goto the upload page
fill in the info and it sends a MMS message to your phone

once you have it,open it, then select options, then select save and
then choose what to save it as.....either sound, music or ringtone

i don't know if it is possible to have the phone use the music
files on the card as ringtones other than uploading them. good luck

Since I have finally got my microSD today, I can explain how to do what you want. You can do the way that has been explained above, but also another way which requires either the USB cable or a bluetooth adapter. I used BitPim (get the latest!). You first create a folder called "ringers" on your microSD. Then stuff it with any MP3s (length doesn't matter but make sure the file name isn't too long). Now, click on "Get Data" and check mark the "ringtones." Then click on "Send Data" and check mark "ringtones" and replace all. Now, just turn your phone off and turn it back on. Now you have your ringtones available for assignment!! Yay!

So it is possible to use ringers on your sd card instead of just on the phones memory? I couldn't find this anywhere so I assumed it wasn't possible yet, but maybe I'm just misunderstanding this. Seems like verizon made it pretty easy.

is all this poosible for the 9800

Tried all this and it didn't work. *shrug* I'm able to play my MP3s from the SD card, but ringers didn't work.

Ok, looks like I got it to work. Had to use BipPim for the conversion. Kept it as an MP3, added it to the ringers in BitPim and transferred it over.

i've heard of another way but never tried it since i don't have a card.

you can:
- compose a txt msg (to anyone, it's not going to be sent)
- attach the song to it
- hit send and then end
- you should have the unsent msg in your sent folder. open it and then "save ringtone"

let me know if this works or not

download the newest version of bitpim and read the howto's under the 8300 its right there and it does work.

1. The message you have entered is too short. Please lengthen your message to at least 10 characters. BuLLCr@p lol

Is there any way to use the BitPim program without the usb cable? I just use the card directly in my computer instead so I dont have to buy the cable.

Good vx8300 link

Access Ringtones from a miniSD card:
Transferring files to the miniSD card through the phone using BitPim is very slow, users should transfer files to the card directly from a PC.

On the miniSD card, create a subdir called ringers
Copy your ringtone files to the ringers subdir.
Insert the card back into the phone and start BitPim.
Retrieve Ringtone data from the phone:
Menu Data -> Get Phone Data.
Check on Ringtone, and click on OK.
Write Ringtone data back to the phone:
Menu Data -> Send Phone Data.
Check on Ringtone and Replace All, and click on OK.
All of the ringtones stored on both the phone and the card are now available for assignment.
Step 3 through 5 should be repeated for all changes made to the ringers subdir.

Ok, this feels like a dumb question... but is BitPim a program for the phone or for the computer? I thought it was for the computer... but the previous post makes it sound like something on the phone. How do I get BitPim on the phone?

Posted by: sodeysay

Bitpim is program to install on your computer for managing your phone

Hey thanks for the link to the online uploader. It works great!
I use bitpim on my 8300 but there are some mp3's it has trouble with, and I've used these ringtones on my old vx6000 so I know they are good. The online uploader didn't have any trouble and neither does the phone once I got the ringtone to it. bitpim isn't perfect by a long shot.

Doesn't, AFAICT. It does leave the messagein the sent folder, but there's no option to save as ringtone.

Also, for some reason, online uploader has errored on every mp3 I''ve tried to send.

another variation of this is instead of hitting send, send the message to a fake # like 444-444-4444
the send will fail, it won't charge u, plus it will be in ur outbox

u prolly read my post in another thread

WHen you name the subdir 'Ringers'...it's not 'my_ringers' ?????

or

Is it a subdir of 'my_mp3'????

therefore

mp_mp3/ringers/

I got an error message when just applying 'ringers' as it's own folder when I do

Get Phone Data....

I have to attach the clip in an email make sure it is under 350k after attaching and only send one per message. Send it to your 10-digit cell phone number@vzwpix.com (eg.1234567899@vzwpix.com) when it arrives to your phone you open it and push options and save as ringtone. Good Luck.

Does it cost to Receive mms messages?

Posted by: sno_wyte_231

Yes it costs to recieve Text or other messages but For the kind with a ringtone in them it is the charge of a pic message usually $.25 but I pay $5.00 a month for 250 any kind of message so I find it to be cheaper that way.

Posted by: lilant2398

ok so.... what if some didnt like you and sent you like 100 txt messages 0.o?

I was just curious as to how you would create a folder on the MicroSD card after you've formatted it on your phone. I currently have the VX8600 and I've formatted the SD card in my phone, but when I try to put the SD card into my computer & create a folder called "ringtone", it says that the SD card has been write locked and I can't add or create any new folders to the card. Am I doing something wrong here? I've been able to get ringtones on my phone by putting them in the

brew/16452/lk/mr

directory using BitPim & a USB cable. Any help here on the "faster" method as well as having the ringtones on the MicroSD card instead of the phone's memory? I have a 1GB MicroSD and it seems like a waste to NOT store the ringtones & stuff on there. Thanks!

you don't. It's for the computer.
