904SH - if it gets unlocked...

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Hey guys. Just got a question. My friend has his 904SH under contract in Japan. Is it possible for him to get the phone unlocked even if it's still under contract with Vodafone KK...in order to use it with other sims/other countries?
Thanks.

There is no unlock for the 904SH at this time. Vodafone doesn't deal with unlocking, they make their money off international roaming and surcharges. Unlocking is done by someone outside Vodafone, and no one has found a way to unlock it so far.
In short, No.

Actually, in short, yes he can, when the unlock is available. He can get his fone unlocked while he is still on contract no problems, he just has to find an independant person to do it.

Ah, perhaps I misunderstood his question, I thought he was referring to having it unlocked at the present.
Yet rereading in a different pretext, I see what you mean. He may have been asking if it can be unlocked and still be usable on the voda network, correct?
In that case, you are right scott. :-) Appologies psx if thats what you meant.

My friend's question again: if he gets the phone unlocked, he will be able to use the sim from other countries (he's in Europe) and, will it have any implications on his contract back in Japan?

I want to get my phone (also 904) unlocked as well. I guess it applies to me too. I'm currently on roaming outside of Japan...and in this case I can't use the 3G functions on roaming and I bet the bill back in Japan will be huge.

When this gets unlocked, will the 3G stuff work as well in other countries? (I'm new to this thing) - my friend's askin the same question.

Thanks guys. You're all a big help.

Posted by: angel_wing0

the 3G will only work in Japan i think, it might work in Europe/hk but 100% sure that it wont work in the north america~

Posted by: dav34

3G roaming will work in some countries... can't really remember which ones... I think Singapore is in the list...

Posted by: Timsta

it'll work in vodafone countries

Posted by: azn_boi_128

oon in canada and us as well =D =D

Posted by: Timsta

the gsm side of the phone will work in nA> not the 3g side of th phone jimmy

Posted by: azn_boi_128

i know i know but i've heard from cingular that 3g will soon be avliable and some rogers ppl told me that too but when i asked about the date they said " soon 2008"

Posted by: Timsta

the 3g wont' work for sharp fones.. i thought you knew this

Posted by: asmok

and cingular already have 3g...

Posted by: evilgabbie

voda 3g network runs on 2100mhz, EVERYWHERE in the world runs on 2100mhz except us here.. rogers is finishing up 3g under 1900mhz

Posted by: Timsta

there is a reason...i dont remember what. But I know they have 900 or 1800 running on military communications or something in the states...

Posted by: Timsta

yah. thats true.. its because of the military.. but apparently.. they were willing to give it up for something else.. but if that is true or not.. no idea

Posted by: john0213

it's call HSDPA~

even when it comes out i'm not gonna use it right away, i can see a bunch of angry customer running after us when it first launch~

btw, the proper term is...

High Speed Downlink Packet Access

then there will come the

High Speed Uplink Packet Access later~
