I just recieved word from a friend that the Vodafone 705sh is now orderable from the vodafone online shop.
I also checked in the Yahoo Japan Auctions and their there, although a bit pricey (33k)
The Vodafone online shop is only selling them for 13k + contract..

Im keen on ordering two (pink for gf, black for me), can anyone teach me how to get them on a contract (i have a friend who lives in Japan so I should be able to get a contract) and then quit it and advise around how much the cancellation fee is...

When I get these new cell phones, Ill post a full review up

Well, you can get them on the 3.6k/month plan, and then cancel which will cost 4.2k. Obviously, this is per phone. I'm also not sure if they have a blacklisting system for people who do this. I read somewhere that they do, and it would make sense, but as I sense, I'm not sure if what I read was fact.

I asked the same question in my other thread and got no response on this issue.

There is some good info covering cancellations in the FAQ on the VodaJapan English website. I suggest you take a little bit of time to get informed before making any decisions.

24200 still sounds reasonable =)

Something like that. It certianly is a reasonable price for a new phone. Don't forget you'll need to get it unlocked too though.

I just ordered two from a friend in Taiwan.. turns out someone was selling it on yahoo auctions in taiwan the first day it was out!!!
It was quite expensive, but at least I didn't have to go through the hassle of ordering from Japan and cancelling all that..
I should be able to get my hands on them in a week or two.. Ill be sure to write up a review for everyone

btw I got the black and pink

grr.. now i just need to wait for timsta to show up with the magic unlock

ur gonna need some magic charisma. ever since u telling me that bs about v801sa had unlock from vodafone if you paid cancellation.

also good luck getting your friend to get it for you. most likely its an aquaintence, not a friend, and he/she will most likely be unwilling to be blacklisted for the 6 months from vodafone.

ya im a prick. but u deserve it son.

also, i sold my 801 for just about $200 on ebay last week. much better than your $80 you thought it was worth. IMHO, the 705sh is easily worth $400, if not more.

About the v801sa, the cancellation from vodafone is what I knew, its not accurate information I know now, but it's what Vodafone customer service told me when I lived in Hiroshima.. I have no need for it, and sold it for 40 dollars on craigslist.. I believe the listing is still there if you are interested in checking.

I didn't buy it from that friend as I got it from Yahoo auctions.. I'm sure that Vodafone only backlists you if they suspect your selling the phones abroad not just because you buy and cancel. But it doesn't matter, she has a Vodafone phone and they know her.

It's good for you that you sold it for 175$ US but it's not fair that you screw up my posts and stuff because I thought the price for it is about 80$ as I just came back from Japan and the price over there is even less for it, I sold mine for 40$..

The ebay one I bought was 15 dollars and did not work at all, so basically I had paid 15 dollars + 15 dollars shipping for a empty case

The 705sh is a really good value for it's cost, hope you get lucky in august and don't meet any shortages

I checked some of these Sharp beauties at a voda store in Nagoya. Here is the info U might find useful: The 705sh released today sell for Y5000. + activation fee + 1st month as U mentioned, BUT the cancelation fee is Y10000. (It's still about Y3000 cheaper than the price U quoted.) U can save an extra Y5250 if U sign up for 1 of their discount service packs described on their website. (a special deal 4 this summer.) The cheapest only cost U Y300/month and by doing this U get the phone basically free, only having to pay the activation + cancellation fee + 1st month...
Same goes 4 the 904sh, but that phone costs Y12000 with contract...

actually no. if you get a contract, you'll likely be forced to join happy bonus as well as yearly discount. the cancellation fees come from leaving those services early. Yearly is 4200 yen, happy bonus is 10000. You'll be paying an additional 140 US dollars nearly in cancellation fees. does 34200 sound reasonable? especially for a phone that will probably be low on the unlocking priority list. there is also a blacklist for vodafone.

most places will not sell the phone at the cheap price if you will not join these services, they will increase the price proportionally.

I really need to write a faq on japanese contracting and cancelling.

I just read this on the Happy Bonus webpage, but cannot find anything in regards to being forced onto it.

If Vodafone service is discontinued or Happy Bonus is cancelled at any time other than the renewal month, a ¥10,000 [¥10,500 incl. tax] cancellation fee will be assessed regardless of the length of the contract.

EDIT: Having just read some more, the yearly discount is the same 4200yen charge I was talking about, I believe. Here is the bit from the Yearly Discount page.. You are forced onto one of these two, obviously the Yearly Discount being preferable for "short stays"

If Vodafone service is discontinued or Yearly Discount is cancelled at any time other than the renewal month, a ¥4,000 [¥4,200 incl. tax] cancellation fee will be assessed regardless of the length of the contract.

Ya...on the Voda kk website, it saids 4200 cancellation...i am not sure what that is all about though. Was in Jpn in January and had one friend there get me a 903SH on contract (16000 yen for phone) and another friend got me a 703SH (0 yen for phone) on contract. The cancellation fee was 10500 yen for each phone + pro-rated plan and usage. None of my friends were charged for extra 4200 yen...i guess maybe they didn't sign up for any discount deal?

I bought a Sharp 903sh last year, carefully selecting everything that would lead to less price afterwards (no mail or anything else at all, only calling with the cheapest 3g service pack) and it seems not to have changed much after 6 months. It ended up like this in the Vodafone shop:

-The phone's price
-about 10,000 for not having any obligations
-The usual monthly bill for about 4200 and about 3000 for the sign-up
-I cut the contract at the same Voda shop almost a month after, pay nothing, no questions asked
-I get the bill (7200 yen or so), pay it and that's it. Owari

If you prefer not to pay 10,000 when buying, you can pay about 5000 and 4000 when breaking breaking the contract. Or 10,000 when breaking contract. Your choice. Don't know if I'm on the black list now :P I'll try to sign up again when I'll go back to Japan.

All cheapie Sharps are made in China, only the high-end ones are made in Japan these days.

705SHs are made in both China and Japan. The product label under the battery will say 中国製 if made in China, otherwise it says nothing at all if made in Japan.

My pink 705SH is blank, so Japan Made.
My black 705SH is 中国製, so China Made.

Not saying all pink or black is this way, but this is how mine is :-)

hrm.. so it seems they've seperated the manufacturers. probably cause they think the black is more popular.. therefore more buyers.. cheaper to build in china

Perhaps its cheaper to just swap out the parts into the 770SH in china, whereas the shells (housings) are larger, and easier to just toss the parts into the pink in japan, which could have actually been made in china anyways.. except for maybe the camera?

Back to the topic at hand: I guess it was inevitable as Sharp manufacturers many of their other products in China too, ie LCD TV's and e-dictionary. My high end Sharp e-dictionary made in China has been trusty with no problem but my made in China Moto was the worst phone ever, I'm hoping the 705SH keeps the same Sharp quality and not end up like my Moto.

Yeappp... I just put all of the phones on my apartment's floor (which covered with tatami)... and take the pics using Sony Ericsson W31S (AU by KDDI, already cancelled)...

Hi! I'm new here and I was hoping ya'll could give me some advice...

I'm trying to decide between the NEC 804N or the Sharp 705SH. I'm leaving Japan in a few months so I'd want to get a phone that I'd be able to use in the UK/Europe or the US as well. I REEEEEEALLY like the 804N (http://www.vodafone.jp/english/prod...804n/index.html)
but it doesn't seem like anyone's keen on unlocking it. Should I just get the 705SH instead?

Any advice would be much appreciated!

you know where i can unlock my phone? (internet, Akihabara,,etc)
or there is no hope that i use it in europe, should i resell it when i am in japan??

I really want a green 705, but I already have a green 904T (and there's no unlock for the 705) . Maybe I'll get the chance if I decide to go to college in Japan and buy one there (from Yahoo Auctions most likely since 10000 phones are probably going to sell out by the time I get to that point since I'm still in high school).

It's unlocked, but it looks like the situation is the same as the 811T/TX80- you can't use Japanese on it, because the unlock is on HK firmware (SX633a if both lines of the outer display work or SX633 if only half the outer display works I think). I was recently thinking if this actually worked- someone told me it couldn't but then this comes along. I think there's hope for an unlock here (but maybe not with the original Vodafone/Softbank FW).

Oh right- I forgot about that possibility. Hardly seems practical, though- they'd make just as much by selling an intact SX633(a) and now they have a 705SH board stuffed into a SX633(a) case- hate to be the one who buys that and finds that their supposed SX633(a) is locked.

I really liked the Softback 705SH in all white colour but I just couldn't afford a $$ paper weight so I went with a Samsung 707SC all white..
