Nokia 6102 vs SE z520a vs W600: Best Reception and Voice Quality?

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

I don't care too much about extras or form factor. I would like to be able to set multiple alarms (like the v551). Otherwise, I only care about reception and voice quality. Which of the three above would you rate best? Are there any other current phones which are better at reception? Or are there any sub-$200 phones coming out in the next month that would be better?

Thanks.

Just got the Nokia 6102i. Reception is stellar. Just as good as the Nokia 3595 and the 6620 which I owned previously. It does not drop calls in the 2 trouble spots that cause problems for other brands. Call quality is also excellent.

Wait till first of July and get a Nokia 6126. You won't be sorry.

any other opinions on whether the z520a is better than the 6102i or not? still debating between these phones. each are very similar. the only thing i cant figure out is which phone has better reception and call clarity (volume).

Yeah, I was looking at grabbing 2 z520's w/ a family talk expansion? Since they are free on the cing site?

All opinions welcome.

I recently upgraded the phones on my family plan and ordered a Z520a (refurb) for my fiance and a new 6102i for myself. I used the 6102i for a day before exchanging it for another refurb Z520a. I didn't notice any differences in reception quality between the two phones (they both work great in the Chicago area), but the 6102i's earpiece volume was too quiet for me, and its interface was laggier than the Z520a's. My friend has a 6102 with Cingular and loves it, though.

I have a 6820, 6230, 6030, V551 and z520 and live in a fringe area. the Z520 does ok but the Nokia definitly beat the z520. Calls are clearer and do not drop as much as the Z520.... the other things I do not like about the z520 is ear volume is low so is my 6030 but not as bad as the z520. The Moto would be great if it got reception. Its horrible. Would like to try a Raz as I here they are good but I just do not like the text message interface of the Moto's

I'll be using bluetooth headset. So volume should be ok.

What are the best BT headsets for it, z520?????

Posted by: carotexan

Sorry, I don't know much about headsets. Maybe this thread can help you out.

I have the z520 and earpiece volume is definately too low, but i find that true on all GSM phones. W600 is noticeably louder than the z520, and i cant comment on the nokia except i would expect the reception to be better because i think it has a real stub antenna, vs the fake loop antennas of the sony ericssons..

However, when comparing the reception of the w600 and z520, the z520 totally wins but its not really that huge of a gap.

Please verify, someone, that the GPRS on the 520 also includes EDGE.

Can't find anything that specifically states EDGE- enabled.

Posted by: carotexan

The Z520a is *not* EDGE-enabled.

Posted by: jagrskmu

Awww, man. I get EDGE in my area and like the speed for my limited browsing.

Well, heck! Are any of the other $0.00 phones on Cingular's site EDGE? and are they overall comparable to the 520a's other features?

Posted by: Wide_opeN

W600 should not even be compared to the other two phones you named . . . IN ANY CATEGORY!!! There . . . that's my .02!!!!!

Posted by: carotexan

I believe the 6102i was available for $9.99, after rebate (pretty close to free) on Cingular's website recently, and it has EDGE. The Motorola V557 (free after rebate) also has EDGE.

What is up w/ the different charger size for the 520. My 500 charger will not work!!!!

Posted by: camera_moto88

the z520 uses a new "fast port" connector. that's "what's up"

Posted by: jagrskmu

But where do I find a "fast port" connector? AT A reasonable price, less than $10.00. Couldn't find a Belkin version at my local WallyWorld.

Well, I bought the 2 520's, one is doing fine. the other has an inoperative microphone. Everything else works, No one can hear me though.

Need to find out how to send it back, oh well.
