Voice Dialing.... Yet Again

OK, just call me Mr Stew Paditiot and get it over with. Just so we can avoid the rhetorical replies, I've already read the so called "manual" , and basically its a useless piece of crap. It doesn't even have frigging voice dialing in the index. So, after searching and playing with my new RAZR V3 trying unsuccessfully in vain to get voice dialing to work, I'm giving up and hoping someone here can take my widdle hand and walk me through each step on how to get a Voice Name applied to each of the entries stored in my phone in the directory.

What I have done so far. I have a lot of entries in the phone address book. All are saved to the address book directory, ones I want to Voice Dial are saved to the Phone as well and I have a little phone symbol to indicate this. I select one of these Phone entries and press the menu button. It gives me a Voice Name option on the list. I scroll to this and select it and Record comes up on the lower right part of my view screen. After trying for several hours to figure out where the "Record Key" is located because its isn't the one below the RECORD on the viewer , I discover, find and press the Record Key on the side of the flip and am prompted to record. It either asks me to repeat what I said louder and then fails to capture what I am already SCREAMING into the mic, or allows me to say for example Mom Home. I review this and it sounds good and I save.

I do this for about 18 entries stored in the phone. I put on my HS850 BT headset (This is set to Voice Dial - ON in the phone), and I press the button and say Mom Home and the phone chirps and I get an Exclamation Point notice. No Voice Names In Phone. So what did I just waste a frigging whole evening doing pray tell??

Will someone please post Step by Step process for setting this up on the standard RAZR V3 (Not V3i or any other versions they are not available yet via my carrier). before I give myself a concussion...

Do the setup through the headset.
I find while using the BT headset sometimes I need to place my open hand in front of my mouth 6-8'' away. This deflects the sound back to the mic.

Thanks Freebee. I've already tried that too thinking maybe they had to link somehow. The phone still displays the message that no Voice Names are in this phone.

Finally I got the info I needed by writing back and forth to none other than Motorola. First off, let me give all of you owners of the basic V3 a heads up, the manual stinks. Its incomplete, and very brief of not occasionally incorrect. They don't even list Voice Dial in the darned index. Anyway, there is a method to the madness to getting your standard V3 set up for Voice Dial. Here is the process.

First make sure the phone is set to Voice Dial = ON.

1.) Open the flip, and press the menu key.
2.) Scroll down one and right one to the Settings Icon and press Select.
3.) Scroll to Headset and press Select.
4.) Scroll to Voice Dial: OFF and press change.
5.) Scroll to ON and press Select. The phone will take you back to the headset menu, make sure Voice Dial: ON is showing.

Lets set up some Voice Names.

1.) Open the flip, and press the menu key.
2.) Scroll down to Address Book.
3.) Scroll down to the entry you want to make Voice Dial. For Example Mom Home.
4.) Press the View Key in the upper right corner.
5.) Press the menu key.
6.) Scroll down to Edit and then press Select.
7.) If the number is stored to SIM, scroll down to Store To: and press the Change key.
8.) Highlight Phone then press Select. The phome will acknowledge the change to Phone.
9.) A bigger menu will appear. If you already had this entry saved to Phone, this longer menu will appear after step 5.
10.) Scroll to Voice Name.
11.) Press the Record botton on the upper right keypad quadrant.
12.) The phone will prompt you to Press Voice Key then say name. This "Voice Key" is located on the right side of the flip, its the only button there on that side.
13.) Press and release the Voice Key. A timer bar will appear, say the name of the person clearly once. For example: Mom Home.
14.) The phone may prompt you to say the name again louder. If this happens do not press the Voice Key again, a timer bar will appear automatically, just say the name again but a little louder.
15.) If the phone does not prompt you to say the name again louder, it will prompt you to press the Voice Key then repeat name. Press and release the Voice Key on the side of the flip and say the name again.
16.) The phone will display a message Trained: Voice Name if you are successful or it will display a message that its unable to save Voice Name. If the phone is unable to save the voice name, it will take you back to the entry menu, just try again.
17.) If the Voice Name save was successful the phone will take you back to the entry menu and you will see a little PacMan like symbol next to the Voice Name: in the menu. Your done!

You can now navigate to different entries in your Address Book and assign the Voice Name.

To make a Voice Dial call using the phone, Open the flip, press the Voice Key and say the Voice Name you assigned to the person or place you want to call. The phone will play the name, and if its OK, just wait a few seconds and the call will be made. If the phone picked up on an incorrect entry, press the red Stop key on the keypad.

To make a Voice Dial call using the HS850 headset. First make sure your phone is set to Voice Dial: ON in the headset settings as outlined above.

1.) Your phone should be powered up, but you can have it in your pocket, purse or sitting nearby.
2.) Put on your BlueTooth headset.
3.) Press the activate button on the BlueTooth headset and say your Voice Name. For Example: Mom Home.
4.) The phone should repeat the Voice Name. If it is correct, wait a few seconds and the call will be made. If the phone picked up the incorrect entry, simply hit your BlueTooth headset button to end the call.

I hope this really helps some people with standard V3 RAZR phones to get their Voice Dial activated. It took me a lot of time, reading, research, and e-mailing to get a clear answer that did the trick. These are great phones once you get them set up. Its doing that, that is the hard part due to poor documentation.

Enjoy.
