[SMT5600] ActiveSync died after windowsupdate

Hi guys
I've this f.... 
problem...
I cannot make ActiveSync to recognize my phone again...
I've run the windowsupdate tool, I downloaded the updates from windows website, patches, more patches, 47mb total size.
After this, I was requested to reboot, all went smoothly, without any problem until I decided to put newer mp3 ringtones in my phone... then I noticed the ActiveSync didn't recognize my phone again...
I've installed the 3.8 version because my phone still has windows mobile 2003 SE...
Would you recommend me to try new 4.2 beta ? or newer version ?
What should I do if trying newer versions has no possitive effect ?
