Does anyone have a clue about a release date for the 4950? Over in the Sprint Forum it was posted that the 4900 was discontinued and the 4950 would be out soon with new features.
I know there was some talk a couple months ago about a 4950 with PTT but I haven't heard anything lately.
Any good news??? I was going to buy a 4900 this week but I'll wait for the 4950 if it's going to be out soon.
Thanks,
Karl

This also means you can get a great deal on the 4900 (an excellent phone) if you look around.

Problem is that I can't find one except through Sprint's web site. I've looked at all the local stores (Sprint, Radio Shack, Staples and a couple others) but NOBODY has any!
I'd buy it online but Sprint wants $149 with a mail-in $100 rebate. Only problem is that I'm not sure if they would give me the rebate because it says for new activations only.

well, maybe my situation could give you some hope (assuming you are able to find a 4900).
i bought a 4900 in november and renewed my contract (started with sprint in '99) and got the instant $100 off in the store. i scratched up the screen ever-so-slightly, and in an effort to fix it with various polishing materials scratched it up even more. i am a little obssesive and could no longer stare at the scratches on my beautiful, otherwise perfect 4900. i asked around and was told that, though i have been with sprint for over 3 years, since i just signed a new contract i would have to wait for 9 months before being able to be eligible for any more rebates (i was considering sucking it up and just buying another 4900 if i could get it for $50 again). definitely not wanting to spend full price, i tried to forget about it. but the other night i couldn't take it any more and just went to the sprint store prepared to pay full price for a new one. but i first explained only that i scratched mine really bad and what if anything could they do for me or was i possibly eligible for any rebates. he looked up my account and saw that i had been with sprint since '99 and said the best he could do was give it to me for $50. i took it.
i don't know if the people who told me i couldn't get another rebate until my current contract had been active for 9 months were wrong. it seems wrong that i could keep going back and buying 4900s for a low $50 if i wanted. but maybe i could. and i don't know if maybe the guy at the store looked at the wrong info and didn't notice that i just renewed in november. but that's what happened.
finally, i can tell you that they seemed to have tons of 4900s at the store in northern virginia. i can't imagine it's been discontinued yet. they seemed to be telling everyone at the store that the 4900 was currently their best deal. but maybe they were just trying to get rid of their current stock. who knows. anywho, i am now keeping my brand new 4900 in a nice case and have even cut some of that PDA protective plastic to fit my phone's screen. live and learn.

I got the 4900 back in January end of december. As long as you agree to sign another year you will get the 100 rebate even on line I believe. I signed a 2 yr for the free mobile to mobile. My store had several of the 4900 in stock also. I have a 4500 with a leather case and car charger all for sale for 50 bucks if anyone is interested. I know the 4900 is 50 but Iam throwing in a leather case and a car charger. Someone told me to sell it on e-bay but I have never done e-bay before. Rose

I agreed to a two year contract about 6 months ago...so if I get the 4900 and agree to another year or something like that...I'll get the $100 rebate?

actually, when i got my 2nd 4900 after having signed a new 2 year contract a few months earlier, i did not have to sign up for another contract. they just saw that i had been a customer for a total of over 3 years and gave me the 4900 again for $50. again, maybe the salesperson didn't look at or notice that fact that i had just signed a new contract a couple of months before. not sure what happened.

Well, I hope that I have your luck...I've been a costumer for 4 years now.

If you just signed a 2 yr contract 6 months ago I don't see why they wouldn't just let you have the phone for 50 bucks. I mean there giving it away now for only a 1 year contract and you have over a year left. I signed 2 years cause I wanted mobiel to mobile. I love the 4900 phone. Good Luck!! Let us know what happens. Rose

Great phone...I love the battery life and the great reception.
Sanyo is the best!
